Vintage Earrings: Resale

I believe there are fashion trends which never really go away…they are just tweaked season after season in order to add a different spin!! Animal prints…stripes…and today’s topic, POLKA DOTS are examples of this.

My first real memory of polka dots is a song…you know…”it was an itsy, bitsy, teeny, weeny yellow polka dot bikini…that she wore for the first time today…” but I do know for sure that I have always thought fondly of this print. It makes me smile whenever I wear it.

Love these vintage earrings from Garment Exchange Resale in
San Antonio

According to Wikipedia, polka dot was first used in a Godey’s magazine in 1873….and yes, it was named after the dance, but no one really knows why. Apparently, there were many products during that time which cashed in on the dance’s extreme popularity. Also, I, personally, like the fact that this is the fabric of flamenco dancers and performers…maybe that is why I want to smile when I wear it!! Also, this pattern is associated with Venezuelan fashion designer, Carolina Herrera, who featured it on most of her dresses in the late 80s and early 90s.

I also think of the red polka dot dress in the movie, Because I Said So, starring Diane Keaton and Mandy Moore…..the mom had a passion for this fabric! No matter the reason, I am glad that this fabric never really goes away and I can pull it out from time to time and SMILE!!

I put on polka dots…got in my car at 5:40 A.M….turned on the radio to
hear this song (Matt Maher: Hold Us Together)…I have smiled all day!!!

  3. It's amazing what a great song will do for your mood, no? I love Because I Said So! The DVD's special features includes commentary on the costuming and polka dots are a theme throughout the entire movie. I really didn't catch all of them until I saw the feature. You look so cute and your big smile MAKES the whole look!! Hugs! ~Serene

  4. I do love polka dots and surprising I don't think there are any in my closet except for a scarf.
Might have to work on a spring something or other with polka dots!

  5. Polka dots are very fun! They're not in my top five prints, but they're definitely in my top 10! You can't help but feel a little girl, a little fun and have a little spring in your step when wearing dots! You look great.

  6. My first memory of polka dots was a skirt of my mother's and a dress I wore at 2 years old. (I saw the picture of me in it). Have loved polka dots since!
