|Time Flies: I cannot believe this jacket and scarf
are now about 31 years old!!
AHHH…memories! It is interesting how so many women have certain types of memories revolving around clothing. Just yesterday, one of you remembered the polka dot dress you had as a two year old! When I found this blue jacket amidst my closet cleaning, I just couldn’t bring myself to toss it on the thrift donation pile.
Suddenly, I was back in the late 70s/early 80s…a twenty-something jet setting communicator….traveling all around the US (I remember one two week period when I was on 13 different planes)….enjoying a job where I got to practice both of my loves (public speaking and writing)…it was a magical time for me.
I had a goal for my free time in each city….SHOP TIL YOU DROP! My idea of a souvenir was not a T shirt screaming VIVA LAS VEGAS…but rather a great looking jacket. I loved looking at my wardrobe and remembering which piece came from which city…silk blouses from Montreal; an incredible full skirt from Georgetown; a beautiful designer jacket from Bergdorf Goodman in NYC. Even today, I can remember every city and what I purchased there; whether it was Baton Rouge or Chicago.
Most of my purchases had to be thrifted because once I began having babies, my body was never the 20-something body again. However, everything about the style of some 1980s jackets was OVERSIZED. This jacket was a purchase in Las Vegas …a boutique off the strip. The fact that I can still wear it tells you that it was HUGE back then. I bought the scarf at Lord & Taylor’s in Washington D.C. around the same time. I still love the print, but it is a short scarf by today’s standards, so I do not wear it that often. I use to pair the jacket and the scarf with a beautiful blouse I bought in Montreal…which unfortunately met up with a terrible grease stain about five years after purchase.
I do not know how much I will really wear this jacket…but I do know that I may not toss it…just so every now and then I can look at it and say THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES.

“I have confidence that spring will come again, Besides which you see I have confidence in me”
Edited by Florrie Clarke of Intrinsically Florrie
Within this week’s links I kept noticing a resounding honestly in the heartfelt posts. When we blog or choose an outfit we are putting ourselves out there for all to judge, and it’s not surprising that doing the activity can have an affect on our confidence for better or for worse, especially when feedback starts coming in.
There’s also been a sense of rebellion in the air: from the emergence of the punk style to controversy over Vogue, and in the week that saw the spectacle which is the Golden Globes rises a questioning of what the red carpet is all about.
