Gal Friday and Friend Friday! All In One Day!

Get Ready Everyone!  You are about to learn more about me than you ever wanted to know!!

First, I would like to thank Kelly at http://dressingmommy.blogspot.com/2011/01/my-gal-friday-pamela-from.html  for featuring me in her Gal Friday post!  Some how, she talked me into agreeing to run a picture without make up! Seriously, I really enjoyed answering her questions focused on self image!  Thanks Kelly!

Also, it is FRIEND FRIDAY!!  Thanks to Katy at http://modlychic.blogspot.com/!!

1. Have you ever looked at someone’s blog and thought yours will never measure up?

One of the great advantages of beginning to blog at an older age is that I am learning from EVERYONE. I love the creativity of the other bloggers and am motivated by it, but not intimidated by it. I am humbled by how quickly an audience has grown for this blog and believe the assistance of other bloggers had played a huge part in its small success.

2. Do you (did you) feel pressure to meet some kind of undefined standard for fashion bloggers?

I have to laugh at me being considered a fashion blogger!! I will admit, in the beginning when I began to read other blogs, I thought “WHAT HAVE I WALKED INTO?” But, the encouragement of my peer group at home was so important, because I had helped ladies around me and they kept saying to take my point of view public. Then I realized how many different stages of fashion there are! I am here for the everyday woman…the woman over 50…the woman who may have lost her way navigating mid-life…the woman who cannot afford top designer prices. Therefore, I do not feel pressure from others…just glean from their knowledge!!

3. Many established fashion bloggers are also extraordinary DIYers, bakers, and crafty people. Do you think you need to combine all of these things to be successful at blogging?

Not necessarily. Again, there is so much to learn and I think a successful blogger is one who is willing to learn and be honest and humble with what they know. I so appreciate creativity in others.

. The most successful blogs are the ones that have their own personal voice – how are you developing your voice or how did you find yours?

I think my voice has existed for years since I have been writing most of my life. My voice hopefully includes a little humor, some humility, bravery, understanding, and compassion. I want readers to walk away having learned something every time they read this blog…encouraged…and with a smile on their face. Also, as I mentioned above, I began this blog for a very specific audience and I hope I reach some of them.

4. Toot your own horn… what’s one thing you do that is unique to you and your blog? What gives your blog an edge?

An edge? That made me laugh! I do not see this blog as edgy, but hopefully fun! I think I bring a reporter’s voice to a lifestyle blog. I occasionally enjoy interviewing other people and getting out to cover events and bring other stories to the blog. I loved the post on Marylou…the 66 year old woman who left accounting to sky dive and really experience life; and I liked the one on my date to the Trans Siberian Orchestra! I want to do more “on the scene” reporting!!

NOW GO OUT AND HAVE A FABULOUS FRIDAY!!

  3. Loved your answers and do believe that for once the older women have an advantage of blogging that the younger ones don't.
We have been around awhile and take things more in stride and don't do as much of the comparison thing.
I knew there had to be something good about getting older!

  4. Tee, Hee !!!
    You flatter me 😉
    A Biggie? No way !!!
We seem to be very similar in our thoughts, ideas and such, I believe that's why I like coming here so much!
I consider the 'biggies' as What I Wore, etc…
Or the one who have thousands of followers and vendors throwing cool clothes at them all the time 😉
But, then, they probably feel the 'need' to promote them…….
It's fun being free and no longer wishing I were something I just am not. Big.
My hubs calls me a fringe blogger. Not of the 'mainstream'.
    I kinda like that!
Though I am flattered when you said you though of me while thrifting 🙂
I do love to thrift and have a thrifty surprise for next week. I'm about to burst, but i am gonna keep it secret…..
Hint: Cows, legs, thried once but didn't work out…..

  5. I agree that it is funny to be lumped into a fashion blogger category. At BEST, I'm a personal style blogger. I hardly feel fashionable!
I love that you use other blogs to find motivation. That's a great way to look at other blogs!
