Chocolate Therapy!

Safari Style: Hunting for ways to
avoid unhealthy eating!!

The day was my version of walking through a mine field. Valentine’s Day….working in a school….on a restrictive diet….was one of the most miserable experiences I have been through in a long time. Around every corner was a chocolate covered strawberry…..a luscious truffle….or a brownie piled high with buttercream icing. Our precious parents loaded up the teacher workroom with mountains of quiche…candies….croissants….tea sandwiches….dips….chips……luscious desserts of every kind imaginable. I fixated on food all day.

Misery….but to date I have lost six pounds and truly desire to keep it going. To be healthy and feel better is important to me. So, for the first time since I have been a teacher (12 years)…I walked away with a fruit plate and not a plate piled high with everything!! I did succumb later in the day to a small sampling of chocolate…and I was slightly up on the scales this morning…so NO MORE!

Instead, I will wear chocolate….like I have done today!! It will have to be my therapy!! Also, one of this morning’s headlines was that clothing prices may go up 10% this next year.  http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/business&id=7958674
But, never fear, there are just too many great ways to avoid high prices in fashion. The Dana Buchman jacket that I am wearing today is a great example. Last week Kohl’s had its Valentine’s Day sale….the jacket was already marketed down. I took a $10 cash coupon from a previous purchase…combined it with a $10 off coupon from the newspaper…combined it with a 15% off coupon from their email…..and was able to purchase this $90 jacket for $25.00!! One day last year, I stopped by Avenue and they were clearing off a clearance rack…I purchased the brown trousers I am wearing today for $5.00!! The scarf is from the Chico’s outlet at one of the Tanger Outlet Malls!! You can do this, ladies….NEVER PAY FULL PRICE!!

This color combo is one of my favorites
as evidenced by the colors on the wall
and carpet of my home!  I love to see
animal prints with safari green!!

  1. You are my HERO with your thriftiness!

When I was going through my weight-loss transition, it was over Halloween and Thanksgiving and Christmas…talk about torture! But I did it and I'm glad!

  2. A tasteful use of an animal print!

My feeling is that one shouldn't waste calories on sub-par chocolate. If I don't think it's superior I usually can pass it by.

  3. Congrats on your weight loss. Holidays can be so difficult to resist those types of treats. But I glad to hear you made it through. Great therapy, instead of eating chocolate, wear it!! You are looking great, love the scarf!

  4. 6 lbs is great – how long have you been at it? I'm with RoseAG: only the best chocolate, in small quantities. I lost 50 lbs and have maintained it for nearly 4 years.

You look great! I love the animal print on you!

  5. Keep up the good work–this post was so cute and so much of what we all go through evrey day! I couldnt live without chocolate, so I find a way to work it in……Paula

  6. Way to go on the fruit plate. I would have so caved! I totally agree with you on fashion. My hubby will say "Go ahead and get it" but I say "Nah, it will go on sale soon". Some call me cheap but I call it frugal 🙂

  7. wel your looking great. and a little chocolate is good for you every now and then. Celebrate! Your doing fabulous. Hope you week is going great.

  8. amen to never pay full price- you look great! I love that military inspired jacket! I hear ya on the restrictive diet. So many things I have to pass on b/c of my gluten and dairy intolerance and I'm trying to steer clear of sugar now – have to watch every bite! I was weak tonight and made gluten-free chocolate chip cookies- they were soooo good!

  9. WTG on the weight loss and I commend you on your willpower. I too, never like to pay full price, but did recently on a top as I had a gift card, and that top had my name on it (not literally), and I had to have it!

  10. You look great..I love the color combination! And don't get me started on diets..I was so many times on a diet that I frogto the number..the most weight I lost was 16 kilos, now I gained 20 in one year and I'm so sure soon I will be on a diet again, but I need to consult a nutritionist first.

  11. congratulations on the weight loss! i truly believe "everything in moderation" is the key. if we try to cut out our favorites completely we will eventually give in and binge. it's fine to treat yourself once in a while to nip those cravings in the bud!
