New Passions…Happy Feet…and Special Giveaway!!

Regular pedicures will take summer
stress off of the feet!!

The economy’s downturn has changed many lives…but it seems that the changes have been greater for the over 50 crowd. Suddenly, what used to provide just doesn’t any longer sending many to rethink their income and their passion.

That’s what happened to former San Antonio realtor, Ellie Edler. Though our city has not been hit as hard as others, Ellie said that the real estate business has become more for the “big dogs” and not the smaller real estate offices. But, she isn’t sad, because she loves what she does now as a nail technician…working for herself and her clients. Ellie, 51, was born in Portugal and raised in Venezuela, but has lived seventeen years in San Antonio.

Happy Feet feel like dancing!

What makes her different? Well, instead of entering one of the larger nail salons and sitting in a row of chaos resembling an automobile paint & body line, Ellie’s studio is one chair, peaceful with very personal attention. The pedicure includes exfoliation and a restful massage. “In San Antonio, our heat and hard water wear at our skin and can be aging,” Ellie explained. In order to properly maintain your feet and actually find rest, a client should come in every five to six weeks. In between, SA ladies should use lotion every night on hands and feet. “In the shower, use a pumice stone,” she said. “Follow that with lotion, lotion, lotion and cream, cream, cream.”

“The biggest trend in nails right now is Shellac,” she explained. “It dries faster and will last on your nails up to two weeks.” This will cost you $10 more, but many women are finding it worth the fee. Ellie doesn’t do artificial nails because she believes the odor from the chemicals destroys the peace and comfort of her studio. The day of this interview, she was busy with two bridal parties! She is all about making her clients enjoy the total experience. No rush. Just relaxation and then… feeling beautiful.

  1. I liked them, and thanks for the reminder to pamper ourselves! I got a pedi a few weeks ago and man, it was awesome!

  2. It's funny, being a teacher, I always wanted to learn to be a manicurist.
Because of my disability our household income has been drastically cut and I feel guilty.
I run a small business on Ebay. It is not my dream job, but I feel like I am at least helping out a little.
When the next school year starts I am going to try being a substitute teacher, that helps with the pressure(I will be able to walk away at the end of the day), I will still get my disability and contribute to the family income. So, because teaching was ONCE my dream job, maybe it can be again.

  3. I "liked" Yellowstone Bees. I LOVE your blog and am an avid follower. I need to get a pedicure – maybe this weekend when my BFF is here for a little late BDay celebration! 😉 Cheers!

  4. i have never had a pedicure!
I am however, a huge fan of massage, which I have one awaiting me as a gift from my Hubby after having a rough day <3………..
I would like to try the shellac as well and will look into it……………….off to "Like" Yellowstone Bees right away as I am a huge fan of someone who follows their own heart and ambition.
    That's what makes a business successful .
It is also so great to hear of and meet women who have their own businesses after the big 40!!!
She (and you) give me so much hope that my photography skills will blossom into a great business for me as well………
    Please thank her for me!

  5. Great giveaway Pam. I have never had a pedicure!! Manicures used to be my favorite self indulgence. This new economy has squelched that act for a while.

I know all too well what this downturn does to us small fries. Hubby and I are barely surviving. The job market is not so friendly to the 50+ crowd I am learning.

Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by my blog today!

  6. Finally catching up on 'my' blogs. I like Yellowstone Bees on facebook…and of course! I am a follower. thanks for the giveaway 🙂
