When mixing up an incredible outfit with different patterns, it helps me to think about cooking an amazing meal.
There are those of us who  are meat and potatoes eaters….we want our food separate on the plate…not touching in any way.  In this corner, there is meat…in the other corner potatoes…and in the other corner a veggie!  Most families have at least one of these eaters at the table…they are not casserole people!!
Most people who will understand pattern mixing and its success will most likely be casserole eaters.  Those who understand that by mixing certain flavors an incredible outcome can be the result.  As a cook, you begin to learn that there are foods and spices which blend together nicely…just as a stylist learns that successful pattern mixing usually happens within the same families of colors.

Maybe this analogy is a stretch, but I use it to help some understand that the mixing can be successful…just like it can be in cooking!!  But, just like with cooking, it takes practice!!
