Silhouettes, Structures, and Shapes….with a hint of the Jana Kos Winter Line

From Project Runway to fashion magazines, style professionals constantly discuss SILHOUETTES…..outlines of an image. Most of my life, I have not pondered what my shadowy image might look like.  However, I have to shudder as I envision reflections of the football shoulder pads in some of my suits from the 80s; the boxy figure of the oversized shirts I was attempting to hide under; or the long Little House on the Prairie dresses from early motherhood.   I so hope today’s silhouette is more feminine as I embrace those curves!

I have learned the importance of shapes and structure with my clothing.  Both will help the shadow be one you can look at and secretly, silently yell a resounding “YES!”    Designer Jana Kos is a master at silhouettes and I wanted to introduce to you some of her recently released winter collection!  Let me know what you think.

  1. Pam, it's true…you hear it all the time..silhouette is so important. Most of the time, I'm going for the hourglass outline. But every now and then, I just like a long flowing line. I think the most important thing is to know what you want and go for that. Things don't seem to work for me when I don't really have a vision to begin with. I think this may be one of my favorite outfits on you. You look amazingly classic and cut a very feminine chic silhouette!! Happy Weekend!!! ~Serene

  2. I try to be aware of silhouette too, Pam, and to accent my waist. I shudder at the football shoulders too : >

As for Jana Kos, I say YES! I love that suit (it would look fab on you) and the red dress. Thanks for sharing.

  3. I love that curvy tunic! Yes, silhouettes are so important. I'm still mostly embracing the long-over-lean which balances my *own* silhouette. Love the top picture with the tree shadow!

  4. You look so great in this outfit. The sweater is incredible and I love that you posted that stormy picture as your inspiration. That was a fun PR episode last night.

    xo,

  5. Wow, those designs are beautiful, and you're right about the silhouettes. I never used to pay too much attention to mine either, but now I make it a point to stand far back from the mirror and try to focus just on the overall shape. I find this makes me a lot happier with my finished outfits. The best are those dark office windows where you can catch a glimpse of just your silhouette as you walk by!

  6. I love a classic female shape–but I like a change from that too evrey now and then.
I think you are just looking fabulous this year; you look wonderful in skirts and I am so glad to see you wearing them! Cheers!

  7. I absolutely love that last jacket. The color and details are amazing. I would love to be able to see her designs in person!
The skirt looks amazing on you. Your outfit is so pretty and a classic silhouette.
