ACCESSORY CHALLENGE: SEND ME YOUR SMILE

Jacket: Dress Barn
Green Sweater: Ross
Green Skirt: Lane Bryant

Anyone who is a regular reader of this blog knows my wardrobe consists mainly of separates. I purposefully did this in order to have the ability to make more unique outfits and not always wear the same thing. I suppose if I had unlimited funds…I might possess more dresses. But, I love separates and how accessories can make you appear as though you shop daily!

Image consultant, Dominique-Vaughn-Russell, agrees that working with accessories is “the easiest and most cost effective way of updating or reinventing any outfit.” In her essay from the book Inspired Design, she poses an accessory challenge where two basic outfits are changed several times with accessories for different activities. In a nutshell…practice!!

Scarf: Marshalls
Bracelet: Kohls
Necklace: Stein Mart Red Dot Sale

Russell believes by practicing, we will have greater success with reinvention of our wardrobes through creative use of accessories. The results of practice can lead to:

“1. Know what accessories we currently own and are overlooking and can now organize and interchange them

2. Have a better idea of what our “must have, multitasking, go-anywhere-do-anything,” accessory items are.

3. Discover what missing essentials we need to add to our existing wardrobe inventory

4. Realize we are much more creative than we ever thought possible”

The two basic outfits she recommends practicing with are a white T shirt and jeans; and a little black dress. My practicing so often happens on this blog. Sometimes I will look back at the way I styled an outfit and either think VICTORY or DUD!  Blogging has cemented in my mind the value of accessories, and how you can completely reinvent your wardrobe simply with an amazing
scarf or necklace!

NOW, I would like for you to send me a picture of you in your best accessory…YOUR SMILES!! Please send your best smiling picture and I will feature these smiles throughout February. Just email your smile to over50feeling40@gmail.com with the name you would like to appear underneath!!

And tell us, what “missing essential accessories” would you like to add to your wardrobe??

  1. I think you are overtaking me on accessories. I am just not as enthusiastic about accessorizing as I used to be when I was working. You look fabulous in this outfit and the accessories are so spot on.

  2. This is so true! I've always enjoyed acessorizing, but I've been doing it more, and more creatively, since I started reading blogs like yours. It's amazing how a scarf, found for six dollars on a clearance rack, and completely change an outfit!

    I love your blog, Pam!
