Fall 2012…For $25 and a Smile!

“Autumn, the year’s last, loveliest smile.”  -William Cullen Bryant, Poet
Harper’s Bazaar August 2012
It’s a nice thought….that autumn is the year’s last loveliest
smile.   Doesn’t it stand to reason then,
that we should dress in such a way for the season which makes us a part of those
last loveliest smiles!
Burnt Orange Sweater: Goodwill, Highway 410 and Blanco
Merlot Bag and Military Flats: Gooddwill Highway 281 and Bitters
Oh Pam, it’s summer…heat, sun, beaches, flip flops, bikinis,
sand, and fun…don’t talk to us about fall!
Well, if you can set summer aside for just a brief moment, then you
might save some serious dollars and be more than prepared when the first cool
breezes blow.
In late June, when I visited the local GOODWILL locations, I
noticed everyone was mostly looking for summer items…things to wear right
now.  I also noticed that when they
called out a color for the 99 cent specials, those were predominately on out of
season items.  That was when I started to
pay closer attention to colder weather wear!
 Needless to say, I am
now ready for the seasonal change and spent very little on some beautiful
quality pieces. Specifically, I walked out with three formerly expensive
jackets; a long draped cardigan; two pair of fall flats; a perfect menswear
inspired scarf; and a beautiful merlot oversized bag…all for $25!   Because
most people do not want to think about fall as yet, you can get some designer
wear that has gone under everyone else’s radar.
I always keep in mind the season’s trends and colors and make sure I am
enhancing my wardrobe.  Also, I save up
dry cleaning coupons for moments like this!
This silk pinstriped jacket has perfect seaming for a flattering fit
and appears to be brand new!
You might be surprised at what you can find at GOODWILL… and
at the compliments you get when Fall comes knocking!
Now, have a wonderful Monday everyone…and make sure to visit
the other bloggers over at Patti’s VISIBLE MONDAY and MONDAY MINGLE!!

  1. Your shopping really paid off beautifully Pam – that cardigan and the blazers are so classic and so "Pam". Merlot is a wonderful purse color too – any time of year, IMHO. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Pam, the burnt orange color looks great on you. I'm thinking fall too. I love fall fashion. Summer is fun, but fall fashion is the best!

  3. I'm so happy that menswear is still in. Love it! You look great in that burnt orange cardigan. Bright colors are your thing for sure.
I'm looking forward to fall. I love boots and sweaters and am feeling a little lost with warm weather trying to accessorize and layer, which I prefer to do.

  4. Uh-oh, you've let one of my thrifting secrets out of the bag. I love that first pair of flats and the cardigan is a delicious color.

  5. I will be buying losts of autumn stuff in England: charity shops, carboot sales, Flea markets, etc.
Always ahead it pays off. When people look for summer you are already buying, most of the time, cheaper for autumn and winter.

  6. Love your Goodwill finds. Yes, I was at Christopher and Banks and looking at the Fall Collection. Now I know what colors I will go into.

  7. Love this post! Oh, and that handbag is to die for gorgeous in that color. Definitely time to think about fall purchases while the pickins are good at Goodwill. :-))

  8. Pam I just read your delightful interview on the Citizen Rosebud! Congratulations and I so agree that you are truly an inspiration always and possess such a generous spirit! I would definitely subscribe to your magazine my dear!

  9. Pam, I love this!!!! YES, bring on the FALL!! I couldn't resist the urge either and have been purchasing Fall items for weeks because they are such a better deal right now! You are brilliant and I love everything you picked up, the colors are so rich, I simply cannot wait for Fall! Good thing Atlanta is having a mild summer; I am actually sneaking some Fall things in my wardrobe right now. Thanks for this post! 🙂

  10. Ah william Cullen Bryant!! My grandmother had a book of his poetry and oh how I loved to read it as a child!!
Love your Goodwill finds–the orange sweater is stunning!!
I've been perusing the thrift racks for fall and winter stuff now, too.

  11. O my goodness, you are so right. I recently discovered my local Salvation Army and what deals they had … Kate Spade purses, vintage Laura Ashley, lots of Ralph Lauren, the list goes on. Most things I saw were in great condition and at fantastic prices. Not only is it a great place for finding bargains, but, as I am in the process of loosing weight, a perfect place for finding pieces for those now "in-between" sizes 🙂

  12. I read your post this morning – just now getting around to commenting. It just so happens to be a little cool today so I pulled out my burgundy ballet flats and burgundy cardigan and wore them with jeans and a tank top. Why wait until autumn?
    xo

  13. Summer is just starting for us folks in Canada! It's too soon to think of autumn! You have some really fabulous finds – especially the bag and orange cardi.

  14. That orange sweater is a gorgeous color. Great thrifting finds and advice. Now you're giving me a good and practical reason to check out my Goodwill even though I've been trying to stay away. 🙂

  15. The rust coloured cardigan is just lovely – conjures up the image of autumn leaves – and love the burgundy ballet flats – great autumnal colour too.

  16. Although I admire you're finds I can't help getting sad at the thought of autumn already. We haven't had any summer yet up here in Scandinavia! But you should be able to wear the cute ballet flats during summer too, right?

  17. I am with the other Canadian…our summer did not start until JULY so it seems sacrilege to think of fall. Fabulous finds though. Those are fantastic little flats and purse. Now you've done it. I want to go thrifting!
