Natural Hair…Dyed Hair….We Are Still All The Same!

I have been running massive amounts of errands lately
because my time to return to full time work is drawing ever so near.  Something I love to do when shopping is to
strike up conversations with women I do not know.   It’s fun to ask what random strangers think
of an outfit or a garment.   We rarely plunge deeply into our lives….no
talk of what economic class we are in…what political beliefs we hold…what
professions we have…not even the differences in our ages.  For just a moment,
we are simply WOMEN connected through our love of fashion and our need to
connect with one another.  I have laughed
and fellowshiped with some amazing women…who some, so far, I haven’t seen since the encounter.
That is how blogging is to me.  We connect sometimes daily with women around
the world and share our love of style, fashion, beauty.  Every now and then we may go a little deeper,
but for the most part we do not broach any potential divisions only the connections.  I personally believe just by being women we
share much in common and can meet daily on equal grounds.  And there are women I have met through the blogs I am happy to call friends and would welcome an opportunity to spend time with them face to face. All of you are special!
I learned something a long time ago and I have tried to
internalize it…which really wasn’t easy when I was younger, but has become
easier with age… “Be Slow to Speak, Quick to Listen, and Slow to
Become Angry.”  I think it saved my
marriage several times!!
Have a Wonderful Tuesday and I Hope you Will Return Each day
as we Live and Grow Together!
FULL DISCLOSURE ON YESTERDAY’S HAT:  I am not ready to go “natural” and my hair
appointment is not until later this week!
I kind of have a stripe down the middle of my head!  I applaud those who have the courage to be
all natural…you are truly inspiring!   As
of this moment, I enjoy my hair too much as it is and I am not ready to make a
change.    Someday, I know, I will join
those of you who are experiencing freedom right now!  Actually, my hair stylist is a friend and I
would miss her toooooo much!!

  1. The connections I have made with you and several other women is what keeps me blogging. Blogging gives us the opportunity to get to know other women of like mind or shared interests who we would never normally ever meet. Such a neat little world we have here…don't you think?
You look darling in that last photo, by the way.
    xo, A

  2. Pam I think your floppy hat is SO cute, and maybe keeps that hot Texas sun off your face? The very best part about blogging has been connecting with women all over the world. We may have VERY different lives but somehow we can find common ground.

  3. Great post. I too enjoy talking to people with whom I have no connection other than to a human woman. None of the obligations or constraints that one has with close friends or relatives.

  4. And I too have a very big streak in the center of my head. I am becoming rather attached to it. Actually I am trying to grow out as much as I can because I want to go a shade or two lighter without using chemicals to remove my current dark color

  5. So well said, Pam – we find connections that focus on our similarities, and we can also enjoy our differences. With hair, you and I are very *similar* : > — I too am not quite ready to go silver, so I will sometimes have a little stripe. And I adore my hairstylist too!

  6. This is a wonderful post. It made me cry (mostly cuz I'm hormonal, haha). I wish people would focus more on what makes us similar instead of the differences. Human connection is such a powerful thing. Even though us bloggers are usually separated by distance, I don't think technology has made us as antisocial as some people say. Socializing has just changed. I feel just as much a part of this "community" as I do my own neighborhood. In most cases, I know more about my blogger friends than I do my neighbors!

  7. I love the outfit in the opening shot! So dang cute! I love to stop women in stores, on the street…well, just about anywhere….and tell them how I love their outfit, hair, jewelry….whatever grabs my attention. My husband almost falls out….he says I must be nuts to talk to total strangers….but when I see the smiles, hey, I think I will continue on….it makes me feel better to know I made them feel good for just a moment in time. I adore your blog….wish you did it more often! LOL

  8. Pam this post is what I love about your blog…about you! It brought tears to my eyes. Your love and generous spirit comes alive on the page!

I so agree with your sentiments…it is truly the connecting that keeps me blogging. I believe it is the shared love of style that acts as a catalyst for deeper connections and opening doors. It is a bridge by which we can cross and meet…to see that no matter our age or where we live…there is a sameness…a connectedness.

Thank you dear Pam…for building bridges…for inspiring us all!

  9. I began going grey when I was in my 30's and began "touching up" then. When my sons were younger and we were swimming every day at a local pool, they would shout, "Mom, your skunk stripe is showing." At the time, I was mortified, but now I look back and laugh. I would like to go grey, but am enjoying being blonde for a while. Maybe when I am 70………..

  10. Love the outfit and coincidentally I'm wearing dark denim blue and emerald green toay!!
I'm one of those magpies that will chat with anyone. i love to compliment someone on how nice they look. You never know when that one little kindness may make someones day!

  11. Lovely post. It seems every time I'm shopping at a T.J. Maxx near the handbag section of the store…there is a woman who is torn between two bags and asks my opinion. There is a three way mirror near the bags and this is the gathering place where thoughts and suggestions are shared amoung women. I never thought of it in quite the way you said it…but what a lovely viewpoint. I think I will view those brief encounters differently now.

  12. Hi Gorgeous Lady!

Be Slow to Speak, Quick to Listen, and Slow to Become Angry.”

    Take care

  13. When I was younger, I would rarely speak to anyone I didn't know. Now, I do strike up conversations with other women. I try to compliment anyone that looks fabulous. I am pretty sure it makes their day.
I have so enjoyed getting to know other bloggers, including you (you are the blogger who is the most inspirational for me.) Now it is the only communication I have some days. When you retire, your world really does change. You have to work harder to have interactions with others. I am so thankful that we have all found such lovely kindred spirits.

  14. Pam, you look great as always and I love running into ladies like you who ask the person next to them or at the register, what do you think of this? It's always a fun conversation.

  15. I think you look adorable in the hat! As for gray or not… I consider my "touched up" locks as natural as if they weren't touched up…

And yes, blogging is an amazing way to meet exceptional individuals, and on common ground.

  16. I loved this post Pam. And how true. I have learned so much from you and other bloggers, and though sometimes I get discouraged, here I am again on another day. Blogging and meeting others with similar interests has provided structure and connection during difficult times.

  17. Such a great post Pam. I feel the same way, we are all connected through our love of being fashionable women. I love your happy smile, it always makes me smile and I read that smiling is very healthy, so thank you! 🙂

  18. Pam…..to hide the roots you should try a tip from my hair stylist. He suggested I use eyeshadow to hide the gray! Works like a charm!! I just retired after 30 years of teaching. Feels weird to not be in that 'back to school rush' mode at this time of year. 😉 Good luck in your new school year! Brenda
