Time to Think…COATS!

Cold weather has arrived in some northern states, and for the rest of us…it never hurts to be prepared!!  Goodwill helps all of us expand our coat selections and take them to new levels.

I love this coat…it has a chic, Mad-Men-vibe to it and will be great for going out with Mr. B.  I paid $6 at Goodwill SA, and then paid $5 to have it cleaned….an incredible look for just $11!!  At these prices, we can have coats of many colors in our winter wardrobes.

This authentic Burberry scarf was ripped across the bottom.  My mom came up with the idea to sew it shorter and put lace hemming tape across the back..actually a nice touch.  I know it decreases the value, but I do not care since I just want to wear it!

From coats, to scarves, to boots…Goodwill is a great way to get ready for winter.  In fact, the secret must be out…the last few times I have gone to the Goodwill locations around me, they have been packed!!  Here are some of the fun shoes I saw this past weekend!

All items in this post were found at the Goodwill location at Highway 281 and Bitters Road.

Have a fabulous Monday, and make sure to visit the ladies of VISIBLE MONDAY and SUNDAY STYLE and MONDAY MINGLE!!

  1. Pam, I like that addition to the Burberry scarf. In my opinion, what you did to it increased the value because now it has been lovingly mended by Pam at https://over50feeling40.com. 🙂 Those are some serious finds too. Yes, the word is out. I hear about Goodwill all the time now. There is so much new stuff there that is has become a serious place to shop for many of us. So fun!

  2. I would be careful about buying used shoes. I remember reading somewhere that shoes conform to the wearer's foot and it can be bad for your feet to wear someone else's shoes.

  3. Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. The shoes I have purchased at Goodwill were brand new…tags still on…I have found them there for years and so far have had no problems. But, I am certain that what you are saying may be true of some shoes. There are so many great finds that you just have to shop what is there!! Have a great week!!

  4. I have pulled out my winter coats and scarves! I'm ready for cold weather whether I like it or not.
Your coat is def. classy and for $5.00? That's pretty crazy.
Hope you have a wonderful week, Pam!

  5. I love to look at coats at thrift stores. I think the biggest money savings are there.
You look great with that headband. I just started wearing them this month. It's a nice twist on a women's hair without being over done.

  6. Pam, I love your new coat. The shoes you feature are gorgeous too…especially the pair with the green suede…wow.

  7. LOVE LOVE LOVE the coat. What a great find!! coat and scarf… lucky you…

The weather here in Maryland has been on and off…cold and then warm. You are not really ever sure how to dress because in the morning it is cold and then in the afternoon it is warm…so I stick with layers..it hasnt been cold enough yet to wear a heavy coat, but you've inspired me so I thnk I may stop by my neighborhood thrift store to see if I can find something!!

  8. Amazing coat, for only 11$! I love the collar and those big buttons! I could do with a few pairs of those shoes too!

As I've mentioned before, my wish for this Christmas is getting one of those big Goodwill Stores, right here where I live!

  9. Dear, dear Pam,

Please email me, I know you have my address, and we'll talk about mini Lyon candy bars.

You look soooo pretty in this picture.

    xo,

  10. I kind of know how you are feeling. I just went to Melbourne and it was so cold. It was very difficult to keep warm AND look stylish. But then, I don't get a lot of practise for cold weather these days…

  11. I don't wear heels, but those black and gold ones are so beautiful I just might try them.
Love your coat. It is so on trend for this year! Amazing how fashion goes around in cycles.
It is still way to warm here for coats, but I am ready to go this year!

  12. Dear Pam,
You make me dream. How lucky you are to wear a coat!I miss mine so much… Yours is wonderful and it was an amazing deal! Wow!
Also I love the idea your Mom came up with regarding this Burberry scarf. Brilliant way to revamp and to customize a scarf. hummmm, will your Mom visit Florida some day? Please let her know her she is welcome here. I would love to ask her advice about revamping old outfits. Your Mom is a gem.
    Have a great week 🙂
    Cheers,
    Anne

  13. Such a great idea! I love the lace addition to the Burberry scarf. I bet the previous owner wishes she had thought of that fix!

I am envious of your cold weather. It's hot here again! I am ready for fall to finally show up!

  14. I recently went to Goodwill for the first time in a long time, and although I didn't find anything for myself there, it made me decide to visit more often. Who said we have to have only one winter coat? It stays so cold here in Northern IL, it makes sense to have an assortment!

  15. Very nice coat, Pam. I love the large buttons, the collar, and the sleeve length.
"At these prices, we can have coats of many colors in our winter wardrobes." Oh, definitely…as my crammed coat closet will attest. My husbands area for coats just gets smaller and smaller…poor thing. He's the type of person that if I asked him if he wanted a new coat would reply "Why? I have one." They don't get it. haha

  16. Great coat! It looks lovely and warm. Really clever trick repairing the Burberry scarf with a piece of lace – it looks so pretty. And love the wonderful collection of shoes!
