Designer Resale…Do You Participate?? + We Have a Winner!

Have you watched RESALE ROYALTY on the Style Network?  I DVR the Sunday evening show and watch when I can, but I really find it fascinating.  A mom and two daughters show how they have taken their designer resale business in St. Louis to the top resale outlet in the country.

The behind-the-scenes of WOMENS CLOSET EXCHANGE combined with the designer fashions and what they are worth to customers makes for a compelling show.  If you like consignment shops and fashion, you will like this show!

While I know we all love the best of fashion…top designers and beautiful garments…what I would like to know is how many of you shop designer resale?  Or do you prefer ebay or taking your chances with thrift?  Do you have a line you will draw for the best?  Please tell us your answers and why?

For example, I found these great Tory Burch sandals at a wonderful designer resale shop in San Antonio OTRA VEZ!  Wish they were my size…. They sell for $43.99.

Now, for the winner of the beautiful necklace from JUVY JEWELS keepsake jewelry.  Congratulations to JoAnn Baker!!  Thank you so much for reading over50feeling40 and entering the contest!!

Now, make sure you take advantage of the special discount at Nina Forrest Jewelry…just click on the beautiful necklace in the sidebar…read the great blogs at KATIE’S FAVORITE THINGS BLOG HOP!

  1. First, thank you for this opportunity to share my experiences at resale and thrift shops. I have always been frugal, probably my '50's upbringing, but now, I do it, because its FUN and can be profitable as well! There is a Goodwill in an upscale suburb about 20 minutes from my home that is just wonderful. I find things not only for my home, but for myself and my husband….Today, I found a Thomas Pink (like new) woman's shirt that I will eBay and make a tidy profit on. I find many Chico's and Coldwater Creek items for a song here. And, I can't tell you how many autographed books I have found lurking on the shelves. There is a wonderful church thrift on Sanibel Island (if you're in the neighborhood ~ LOL) that is just to die for. People line up everyday before opening to get in. My suitcase was loaded with Chico's, Loft, Michael Kors and many other brand name items. One of my fav purchases was a pair of like new Lily Pulitizer jelly flip flops for a buck! And NWT Keds for $2! I even found an Obama 2009 Inaugural Cap which I turned a tidy profit on. Count me in as a Resale Royalty fan!

  2. I'm a big fan of thrifts and consignments, but I like to browse at the high-end stores too. It helps me recognize the feel and look of the best stuff!

  3. Pam, when I saw my name as the winner of your Juvy jewels contest I was so surprised, excited, ect! I love reading your blog and learning so many things about fashion over 50. It's so hard to find appropriate clothing sometimes and your blog has sent me so many great ideas. Thank you!

  4. Some of my best outfits have been purchased at thrift or consignment shops. I love your blog and enjoy reading and learning about fashion over 50! I can't tell you how excited I was to see my name as the winner of the Juvy Jewels necklace! Thank you so much!

  6. I bought my Chanel bag from Fashionphile and I am so glad I did, it was expensive, yes, but since that time the prices on Chanel bags have continued to climb so I know it's worth more now than when I bought it. I would love to check out a designer resale/consignment shop for a Chanel jacket, if only to check out what they have and how much they would ask for one. XO, Jill

  7. We have Her majesty's Closet which carries a huge selection of designer clothes, shoes, bags, everything fashion related!!

  8. Love this post (and the show, Resale Royalty — I was born in ST. Louis)

I have been thrifting forever (we used to call it junking when I was a child in St. Louis).

Had an interesting and somewhat disheartening experience when I moved to my present home (Richmond, VA). As I was sharing my experience at finding great items/buys at the local Goodwill and Consignment shops, I was chastised for buying at those stores. ("Don't you feel guilty shopping in those stores? People donate to Goodwill, etc, for people of lesser means. You can well afford to shop at "regular" department stores." Even after I explained that I donate, as well as shop at the Goodwill stores, it made no difference. p.s, I still shop there. 😉
