Why Do I Blog?

Recently, a post on another blog made me
wonder…why exactly do I do this any way?  So,
here is my answer…..
Why do I blog?

Because I love to write…to write each day and actually publish it
for an audience is electrifying!

Because I love to create…a blog becomes my own little
magazine where I can create with words, photographs, and
graphics…and I have always wanted to be EIC of a magazine.

Because I love to help other women…the many emails and
comments of THANK YOU keeps a smile on my face.  (I wish a
blog had existed to help me 20 years ago.)

Because I have a marketing background and mind… to work
with brands and to share with others the wonderful products
on the market, I believe helps others…then you decide if it fits

for you or not.

Because I love to have a little money …just for me…to spend on
myself or others…I decide…and I earned it!

Because I can leave my day job and escape into a different
world of beauty and inspiration.

Because blogging is ageless.

Because I have met so many fabulous women and made new
friends around the world.
Because it’s fun.  If it’s not fun…don’t do it!

That’s why I blog…how about you??

Happy Friday, everyone!

  1. I sometimes blog but I mainly vlog (video blog) http://www.youtube.com/user/BoomersReachingOut
I do it because I needed something to do. Due to my husband's business, we are very portable and have moved a lot which makes it difficult for me to understand what my place is. Vlogging has given me a place. But, I can't think about it too much because it's all so illusive.

  2. All great reasons to blog! I've come to consider blogging something that sustains a part of me that isn't 'fed' by any other part of my life, and can't imagine life without it.

  3. There are plenty of blogs whose brand representation is targeted to their mission, like yours. High credibility. Then, there are other bloggers who take on brands they have no relationship to or commitment to just to get paid. It's usually clear when this happens. I think it's a valid criticism that applies in some, but not all cases. Certainly not yours! Keep representing!

  4. I blog because I loved to write. Sharing some thoughts and images, commenting on the simple and joyful in my daily round fulfill my need to be creative. Getting comments and emails from readers is such a bonus and I have met some readers and hope to meet more. I love the connections a blog offers, much better than the grade 3 pen pal program !

  5. I agree Pam…I think the main reason I blog is because it's FUN!
I love to write about beautiful things see gorgeous images and connect with similar minded people across the seas…I am delighted to have met you 🙂
    Happy Weekend xx

  6. I can tell you enjoy your blog Pam. I blog for FUN and I enjoy it. I used to write a monthly newsletter for my girlfriends a couple of years ago and just loved it, then my Niece got me to Blog and I loved it more. . .so here I go.

  7. Don't we live in an amazing time? A time when I can write something here in Missoula, MT, and someone in Texas or Delaware or Australia can read it and relate to it. I love feeling part of a global community of strong, saavy, creative women. That is why I blog. Sue

  8. Pam, many of my reasons differ from yours–the big thing is–I HATE TO WRITE! lol. But i do love the community. Check out my video on youtube on "why I blog" ; search under paula ruta. Xoxo

  9. 'Blogging is ageless' WOW how things have changed. When i set out on the journey to blogging, those that knew what it was said i was crazy as its a young persons hobby. I can't write here what my two daughters said about it. But we bloggers know that it's our stage, a platform to share our passions and make our little difference in the world.

  10. Pam, I am a fairly new reader and I've really enjoyed what you post. Thanks for sharing 🙂 For me, blogging is a creative outlet. I think of it as a garden plot where I can grow just about anything. To that end, perhaps all the blogs I enjoy reading are in my community garden. Cheers.

  11. I love that you have stood up for yourself. Good for you! It's easy to see that you are good at what you do, and your promotions read easily. There are some people who promote anything that comes along…and you can tell in their writing when they are not sincere.

The past few weeks I've felt a barrage of criticism from all sides…from a childless blogger who criticized stay at home moms to being lumped in (guilt by association?) with mommy bloggers who don't get it. It really got to me… I mostly write for me but I will work with companies whose products fit in with my likes and lifestyle.

  12. All of your reasons for blogging ring true for me except for the writing. I love making the pictures and seeing everyone posts from all over the world. I love the variety of styling choices in the over 40 crowd, it's so inspiring to me.

  13. Hi Pam! Just catching up on your fun posts since I've been on vacation. This post really resonates with me right now. I'm getting ready to make some big changes on my blog and the 'why' I blog has been on my mind. Though I went the 'educator' route I dreamed of working on a glossy lifestyle magazine. I know you and I share that 'escape' balance in our blogging lives. I agree that blogging is ageless. Though I am not a writer, photographer or PR type I find I am learning and challenging myself in all these areas. It's exciting. Great food for thought in this post!

  14. Kelby Carr recently wrote about whether bloggers were killing the golden goose by writing too many sponsored posts. I think she has a point. Blogs like yours that are focused in a niche and with a writer who puts herself out there as you do for her audience better lend themselves to authenticity when writing about products that make sense for thier audiences.

Bloggers who will write about any product regardless of relevancy for a dollar are less valuable to me especially since I know how the sausage is made.

  15. Like you and many of your readers, I blog because I love to write. It's so much a part of who I am that I simply can't not write! I love the fact that you describe the feeling it gives you as "electrifying"! It truly is.

I started my blog several years ago to share our experiences living and teaching in Asia with friends and family back home but it has become much more than that and these days, since my journey with cancer began, I find that it also helps me process the things that are going on in my life.

Perhaps the greatest and most unexpected bonus of blogging has been the sense of community, the friendships that I've developed with fellow bloggers, like yourself, from many walks of life.
