Hit Your Style Sweet Spot: Casual Chic at The Hotel Emma
Welcome to a new collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40. We desire for all of us…the grandmothers, the professionals, the retirees, the volunteers… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day. After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning. But, we both know just how transformative style can be and we hope to encourage you with specific, step-by-step guidelines right here every Sunday. We would like to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence!
Each Sunday, we will bring to you a scenario we face each week and show you our step-by-step process as we decide what to wear…you will see on our individual blogs how we handle the challenge and seek our personal sweet spot for the day!
Five days til Christmas and, for the majority of us, the next two weeks are really about comfortable, casual clothing. Whether we sit around a fire…dine with family…wrap gifts…shop…cook…travel…go caroling….the activities are ones which do not demand our most stylish looks; however, we want to look and feel our best!
We found ourselves visiting with family recently at the fabulous new HOTEL EMMA in THE PEARL. This hotel complex is truly fascinating…the vision of a New York architecture firm to preserve the original history of the main brewery building here in San Antonio. Room rates are skyrocketing as visitors desire to experience this incredible place.
OLD THINKING: As I have written before, my old thinking for casual dress, was completely comfort-driven and handled with little self-respect. In the past, I might have gone downtown in ill-fitting jeans, a sweatshirt, and athletic shoes….or worse, not gone at all.
NEW THINKING: Every day, every moment is an occasion. Life is short and each opportunity should be welcomed as a special occasion to look and feel our best. Comfort can be stylish. If I feel confident in what I am wearing, I am comfortable!
Also, there are so many wonderful selections of pants now which are incredibly comfortable.
One of the best reasons to shop SOFT SURROUNDINGS is the pant selections.
Today, I am wearing the understated snake leggings…so comfy!
This is the style you will see me in a lot over the next two weeks. A comfortable, yet stylish MAYFAIR TUNIC…LEGGINGS…FLATS…and a little bling in the NECKLACE I will handle anything which comes my way with confidence in an outfit like this. Feeling confident means I want to get out and enjoy! The pants, tunic, and necklace are all SOFT SURROUNDINGS/
And if you ever visit San Antonio, put a tour of THE EMMA on your list…it is worth experiencing our take on what’s cool in Texas!
One note: I usually join Midlife Boulevard on Tuesday…it will be Wednesday this week. See you back here then!!
This place looks so coy and calm, lovely. Love the snake print leggings, a wardrobe staple for anyone that wants to be comfortable.
Happy Christmas to you pam

Oh I would love to stay at that hotel. Have never been to San Antonio yet….just wanted to say hello and wish you a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year. You have made my year very special and made all the difference. Thank you Pam! <3 Sabina | Oceanblue Style
What a gorgeous location, Pam!!! If I ever get to Texas (on my bucket list), I will definitely visit the Emma. Your outfit is just perfect for almost any casual chic occasion. I have a very similar necklace with fringe that I love.
Most women do not realize how easy it is to look beautifully put together with just a little extra thought. You're a wonderful example of just how to do it.
Merry Christmas, Pam, and a Happy, Healthy New Year.
Cheers, M-T
