Hit Your Style Sweet Spot: Rummage Sale Shopping
Welcome to a new collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40. We desire for all of us…the grandmothers, the professionals, the retirees, the volunteers… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day. After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning. But, we both know just how transformative style can be and we hope to encourage you with specific, step-by-step guidelines right here every Sunday. We would like to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence!
Each Sunday, we will bring to you a scenario we face each week and show you our step-by-step process as we decide what to wear…you will see on our individual blogs how we handle the challenge and seek our personal sweet spot for the day!
Hi everyone, I am so excited to be back. I love it when Jennifer and I meet with you to discuss fun style for specific events. I also love thrift shopping! Most of you know how much I support our local Goodwills in San Antonio…but I am game anytime for an estate sale, yard sale, consignment shop…so many treasures await! It is by far my favorite hobby!
I am going to show you a couple of ideas and explain the reason behind each…but both were done with this pair of beautiful booties sent to me last year from ANTELOPE FOOTWEAR…this is a great look and they have stayed in wonderful shape. When on the thrift hunt, you want comfortable, reliable shoes. Your feet will be working!
My Old Thinking…When I started to thrift shop over 25 years ago, I would think it was good if I went in “under the radar” and looked like I just rolled out of bed.
New Thinking….Taking some time to put myself together works in my favor with sellers and does garner respect. I don’t actually “dress up.” I just dress with thought, and I have definitely noticed a difference since I began to do this.
Outfit #1…Dark denim INC SKINNY JEANS FROM MACYS.; Cream Colored Blouse from CHICO’S; and The sweater vest is a wonderful piece I received from LAFAYETTE 148 a couple of years ago. I like an outfit like this so I can be hands free!
With pockets like these, I can put my needed money and cell phone right by me and have the hands I need to properly inspect merchandise.
Outfit #2…Let’s face it, thrift shopping can be a dirty business! This denim shirt is one I do not worry about if I come home with a big brown stripe on it…and denim shirts are always great for the wardrobe. This shopping bag is resilient…water resistant fabric! Sometimes just a simple infinity scarf will bump up an outfit, so feel in charge when going out!
It’s worth it…you just never know what you will find…such a fun activity! Of course, we are not dressing for the runway here…just to communicate strength, intelligence and confidence!
How do you dress to go out for
a rummage sale??

I so wish we had your "thrift shopping" here in the uk! I would be in my element!
Love your cardigan with the suede pockets and the wrap over shoes. super stylish yet comfortable.

I admit Laurie…we do have exceptional thrift shopping here! Thanks for the comments and for stopping by!
Those boots are so IT! – love them. I work in a thrift and usually wear rugged, washable things – we do get some, um, interesting donations to handle : >

I love your outfit!! We both understand to keep our hands free for rummaging 🙂 That best is fabulous. I'm huge fan of the Lafayette brand. BTW-your hair always looks do great. I have serious hair envy.
I too think an inifinity scarf is a great way to jazz up an outfit – so easy to pop on!

They are great books! I guess I did not know you worked at a thrift store, Patti…but how much fun that would be!
Such a simple way to help step up a look! Thanks for stopping by!
I love Lafayette…such a great line! The last picture was right before I got it cut…it can get really poofy at time…but thanks for the compliment!
I really like the camel vest. I have similar coloring as you and kind of shied away from camel, but you have given me the inspiration to try it! I love tag sales, though usually shopping for the house. Love how your scarf lifted a great denim shirt. Classy addition!
Hi Karen, I love wearing camel mostly with black and navy! But, I really do not own that many camel pieces…though I do want a camel coat some day. I saw a woman at the mall before Christmas and she had the exact outfit on with the leopard scarf and denim and burgundy leggings…She was my inspiration to put this together. I love to watch what other women are wearing. Thanks for stopping by…have a great week!
I like both look. Very good choices for a day of shopping. I agree about the pockets in the sweater…a great place to store a roll of bills.
hello dear pam, sorry to be so late to wish you, and your family a HAPPY NEW YEAR.
I do think of you, dear friend, but the day doesn´t have nough hours, lol
Loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeee and besos from Spain ( Málaga)
Love the boots! I wear black pants and you are right sometimes it does get linty shopping!
Thanks Glenda! I love to do hands-free shopping or with as small a bag as possible. The other bag is very lightweight. Thanks for stopping by!
Hi Sacramento…so happy to see your wonderful message from Spain! I hope you and your family are well…I always love your joy and hope this year is so special for you!
I want to look good, Haralee, but I do not want to worry about dirt when thrift, flea market, rummmage sale, yard sale shopping! I just want the best deal! Thanks for stopping by…these boots are so much fun!
Love love the shoes. I have to get me a pair of those boots! Congrats on the colab!
Well, I guess I'm Over 60 (actually 65) feeling 50 LOL. I am also a thrifter and call my scores GW Couture. I love those Senior Citizem discount days at Goodwill! When I go, I try to dress simply, but nicely, because, I know I will be trying tons of things on. I love seeing great boots. I live in Missouri and believe me they get their use.
I love your outfits that you put together. Thanks for sharing your finds with us at the Over the Moon Link Party.
That scarf in the denim outfit and the boots in the first outfit give spunk to the outfit. Unfortunately we do not have estate sales here in The Netherlands. Something I regret very much.
