Welcome to a new collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40. We desire for all of us…the grandmothers, the professionals, the retirees, the volunteers… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day. After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning. But, we both know just how transformative style can be and we hope to encourage you with specific, step-by-step guidelines right here every Sunday. We would like to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence!
Each Sunday, we will bring to you a scenario we face each week and show you our step-by-step process as we decide what to wear…you will see on our individual blogs how we handle the challenge and seek our personal sweet spot for the day!
This was a reader request a few weeks ago…”please address how to look nice when you don’t feel well.” It really hit home with Jennifer and I, because we are both dealing with some health issues. I will send you over to her site below for her story, but I have already written how I face some surgery next Friday with up to a two week recovery.
No worries, everyone, I am not going to tell you that we must dress up in our finest clothing, even when we don’t feel it.
But, I will say, that I know from experience it is important to have days you do fix hair and makeup ….because, mentally, it will help you feel better.
There is just something therapeutic about taking some time to look our best. It can provide hope of things to come.
MY OLD THINKING: I formerly did not care at all what I looked like if sick or tired at home. I had an old, oversized WALMART shirt I loved…my family hated it. And I literally wore it to death…but upon requests from husband and children, I finally got the courage last year to toss it in a trash can.
MY NEW THINKING: It really is easy to relax and look nice at the same time. Places like SOFT SURROUNDINGS provide us so many beautiful fabrics and options to wear while in recovery or relaxing. I now have about three older pair of leggings…which are in good shape that I only wear around the house…and they are so comfy with a FLEECE TOP like this one from Soft Surroundings, this exact top is sold out,… but there are others availabe in the same soft fabrics. I also, love, love, love my FAUX FUR THROW from Soft Surroundings…best Christmas gift!
If I take the time to wear something I feel comfortable and good wearing, then it will not be embarrassing if a friend stops by and again…
I think it helps us to recover and feel better when we take a little time…
I have promised my family to put more thought into this and to be more purposeful when shopping comfort wear….even at a place like Walmart.
Of course, there are BEAUTIFUL GOWNS AND ROBES around…worth the investment to look your best if you are down and out for a time…and some are just stunning. If I were to have an extended time of illness, I would want to add a couple of these to my wardrobe. Also, for the best comfort in bed, get some of the BAMBOO SHEETS…I do own a set and they are amazing.
I hope everyone is feeling well, but it is always good to have some R & R at home during colder winter months!
Now, let’s go see what JENNIFER RECOMMENDS HERE…
