I read about his story and it broke my heart. It is our responsibility as a society to stop this epidemic!
This is tragic. I don't know what the answer is….no! I do know but how do we bring it about? Anonymity that social media provides allows those who feel threatened by kids/adults who they perceived as different (whether high achievers, gay, Muslim, Jew, poor the list is endless)to put down or destroy without fear of being 'outed'. The only thing I can think of is to try to make kids more resilient-perhaps encourage the disengagement with social media (difficult but with a support group????), or given help to set up accounts only with people they trust…I don't know) but at the same time give them the pathways to access help and support which by all accounts you have done. The slavish dedication to social media I guess is what has to change and perhaps society has to address this issue in some way. Society must talk about this, that would be a start.
