Hit Your Style Sweet Spot: New Beginnings for Women Over 50

Welcome to a fun collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40.  We desire for all of us… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day.  After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning.  But, we both know just how transformative style can be, and hope to encourage you right here each week.  We want to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence.

Why does change after age fifty make such an immense impact
on us?  Change is happening throughout
life.  Yet, when life becomes big change
after big change after big change, then,
we have big choices to make about how we will navigate it all.   We can
choose to sink into despair or choose to enjoy life one day at a time…understanding
life is short and goes by all too quickly.
I choose the latter.  This week is
another new beginning for me and the most significant one since I left teaching
last spring.  The picture above was taken
last summer when I decided to plunge into self-employment…but I was still open
to all opportunities.

Tuesday, I will write in greater detail about what this new
turn in my career represents for me.
Today, I look to these new beginnings with great anticipation.  Confidence is always important for a new job,
but, perhaps, even more so when beginning a new job after age 62!   I am more confident of my abilities than ever
before, and very confident of how I look as I begin them.  Well, of course, I was sick with the flu for
the last two weeks and that does not help…but I will rise Monday morning, put
on a power outfit, and head out to see what this new beginning holds.  Attitude is key for confidence.
The wonderful people at TAHARI ASL desired to celebrate this
momentous occasion with me, so they sent A POWER SUIT for days when I need to
be professional-ready.  Nothing says
print publishing to me like black, white and red!  I really prefer a wardrobe of separates since
they provide inspiration to mix things up a bit.
Fit, of course, is critical.  I hope you can see the lines on the back of
this jacket…such a flattering cut and fit. Also, the jacket is shorter and the zippers on the front once again take the eye line to a flattering place.
A suit like this will be for Chamber of Commerce luncheons or when I go to interview someone in a corporate setting.
I have a special place in my heart for this brand.  Right after I turned fifty and went through a makeover, I was searching for clothes to help me feel amazing in the body I currently possessed!  I first discovered TAHARI ASL at MARSHALL’S and purchased several of their professional pieces.  I am happy to begin another new chapter with them.
Confidence is key this week…I need to look and feel my best.  This is a great start!  Please join with me on this new path of career reinvention and believe…all things are possible.
Now, let’s go see about my blogging partner, who is also on a journey of new beginnings…JENNIFER OF A WELL STYLED LIFE!

  1. The suit is perfect and the red shoes are a great way to express your personal style. Best of luck Pam!

  2. Thanks Karen! This is a great suit and I will use the separates for different styles often. This job will have many opportunities for professional to very creative fun clothing.

  3. I love Tahari! Their pieces are classically beautiful. I always feel confident in their clothes. You look fabulous Pam!! I agree about red shoes too 🙂

  4. I can't wait to read the next instalment on your journey! I love your attitude and positive spin; you're going to knock em dead. xxx

  5. Looking very smart, confident, and ready for your new career opportunity in this great skirt suit, Pam. The red shoes add just the right touch of professional pizazz.

  7. Hi Pam!! What an inspiring post! I'm a full time teacher still, and turned 50 last year. It was a big milestone for me, and it's been interesting to see my reactions to it. I'm aware I'm sometimes sinking into the 'I'm getting old' mentality, and I have to give myself a bit of a talking to and perk up! How exciting that you've left teaching and are beginning something new. I'd be beside myself! I love teaching, but I've been doing it for 28 years or so….. which is a long time. Plus, it's getting more and more demanding. I'm sometimes just really, really tired. I hope your new career turn is all you hope it to be. And yay for red shoes. I have a pair too! Can't wear them to work though, they're a bit too fancy for all the walking I do as a primary school teacher. Found you on Blog Share Learn! Linda. 🙂

  8. Hi Linda…thanks for joining in and commenting. I taught for right at 18 years. My private school did not have a retirement plan so the decision to leave was a bit easier as I left nothing behind. I miss the high school kids I worked with, but not the way education is today. I did not go to college to be a teacher, but to be a journalist…so today is huge for me. I hope you will stick around to see where it goes. Thanks for the encouragement! Keep your eyes open…there may be an opportunity right in front of you!

  9. As always Im cheering you on from AUSTIN. BUT you need nothing from me 🙂 that suit is just the icing on your pre-existing confidence cake 🙂

  10. Great suit, fabulous shoes, smart and confident woman–you've got success written all over you! Congratulations on this next chapter, Pam.

  11. I my gosh…. you finally get to do the thing you went to College for… that is huge!! I've subscribed to future posts, so hope to see how you go. 🙂 I have my eyes open, so here's hoping! Linda. x

  12. Thanks Carla…it is reassuring to have a suit like this in the wardrobe when the more corporate meetings crop up! Have a great Austin day!

  13. I can't wait to hear more! You are just leaping ahead – confidence is definitely the key. I've just changed jobs again – got headhunted and couldn't say 'no' so I'm feeling pretty chuffed right now too xx

  14. You look fierce and fabulous. I love the red shoes. Many years ago when I was graduating from college and putting together my interview outfit, I bought a pair of red shoes which my mother thought was tacking but I ignored her influence because the shoes made me feel invincible. I hope that you too feel invincible today as you start on this new path in your life. Good luck.

  15. Very nice look Pam! Very professional, yet feminine with the cut of the suit and more frilly blouse.
Blessings to you on your new journey.

  16. New beginnings are exciting and so good for the soul! Tahari suit looks fabulous and LOVE the red shoes. A pair of red shoes were my trigger for self actualization as a 50+ woman (seriously))) not anything I anticipated but inspiration can come from anywhere – right? Wishing you all the best. Go forth and conquer! Cheers, Cheryl http://www.redshoezone.ca

  17. New beginnings can happen at any stage of your life. I'm looking forward to mine whenever opportunity hits. ENJOY your new venture. Good Luck.

  18. Wonderful suit, looks so good on you. I'm positive you look at least 10 years younger, you are just glowing. More new beginnings for you…

  19. I have an interview this week with the City and am wearing a similar suit. I am over fifty ahem.. and my legs are over fifty. Should I wear stockings?

  20. You know, I have gone both ways. I really prefer stockings and yesterday, on my first day at work, I wore the skirt with a sheer black hose. But as the weather heats up….I often go with some tinted lotion on my legs. Good luck…go in with confidence!
