Monthly Style Guide for Women Over 50: Handling the Sleeveless Dilemma

Welcome to the new first Friday event for women over fifty.  Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life and Pamela Lutrell of Over 50 Feeling 40 will bring you, all the amazing women over fifty, their best style tip to kick off a new month.  It’s all about confidence, ladies, so look for these guides on the first Friday of every month to bring some ideas for 30-31 days of great, head-turning style

I understand the frustration…sometimes it seems all the really cute summer tops and dresses are sleeveless…and there are many of us who do not want those arms to show.  Since I began weight training, I am more comfortable than I was a couple of years ago…but still a little self conscious.

So, my monthly tip for June 2016 is…remember shawls can be very stylish… and not aging.  I wore this one at the office all day and it was no hassle at all!  I enjoyed it…I could type at my computer and walk around with it.  This entire look is a combination of old and new Chico’s!  I have owned the leopard wrap and the asymmetrical shirt for a couple of years…or maybe longer.  Find the pants and necklace information below…  The pants are called the ultimate fit and I agree…the fit is amazing. I feel very confident in this outfit.

Another tip:  Select the white which works best for you!  Not all whites are the same.  I love this antique white from Chico’s and own four garments in the color.  I also like buttercream…but I shy away from WHITE WHITE WHITE.  My husband doesn’t think there is a difference between whites…but,oh, there are big differences.

Now, let’s go find out what Jennifer’s style guide says for June. Find her at A WELL STYLED LIFE

Have a fabulous Friday!

  1. Such a very classy outfit Pam! I love the shawl and took note of how you said you were able to wear it all day like you did. Nice to work in a place where you can be a little more creative. About those white pants, do they show all the thigh "errors" like white pants tend to do (bumps, okay cellulite! etc.)? Or is it a heavier fabric?

  2. I love these pants, Karen…the fabric just flows..doesn't cling or show anything you don't want…and they are designed with great fit. They are my new go-to white pant…perfect in the workplace

  3. Good idea. I remember Helen Mirren saying, "My kingdom for a sleeve!" I don't know why we can't get sleeves anymore, and the sleeves we do have are cap sleeves, which is really like no sleeve at all!

  4. I have not been open to wraps previously…but I am warming up to them now. Between jackets, cardigans, and wraps we can still have our sleeveless garments. Thanks for stopping by!

  5. I have found this wonderful thing called a loop shawl. It's like a tube that you slip your arms into. I own two, and every year my favorite store brings out a few more colors. I would like more of them. They're perfect for day, because they're short, and don't get caught on things. They don't slip off your shoulders, either. They can also be worn as a scarf. How great is that?

  6. A very good look. I am amazed that the shawl didn't bother you in the office. Must try that. The necklae is, as uual, stunning.

PS I apologize for not visiting your blog more frequently, but things in the virtual world got too much. I either had to stop blogging or cut down on visiting other blogs. I chose for the latter…
