Hit Your Style Sweet Spot: Women Over 50 Rain Wear

Welcome to a fun collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40.  We desire for all of us… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day.  After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning.  But, we both know just how transformative style can be, and hope to encourage you right here each week.  We want to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence

We have had a lot of rain lately, but I am not complaining.  We needed it after many years of drought. But, I confess, the constant rain presents fashion challenges….especially with hair and shoes.  At least those are my two largest areas of concern!

I know some people think umbrellas are not cool, but because of my hair I am willing to risk being labeled a nerd.  If my hair get’s wet, it frizzes and balloons out.  An umbrella is a must, but there are so many fun patterns…why go with a boring one!

I only wear rainboots when the water is really high.  I can wear them and carry a pair of professional shoes to work. I have owned these Sperry Boots for a few years, but Macys carries a beautiful new pair of SPERRY BOOTS HERE and I think they have my name on them!  Many times I will just select a shoe which is made of a water resistant material and a little wet will not ruin the shoe.  I love to wear my patent flats when it is raining…they are already shiny and look wet.

In Texas, a lightweight trench is a must.  We do not want to sweat in our work wear under the trench.  I have owned this trench and umbrella for a while, so I cannot give you links…but I know there are fun ones out there and I love the options below. Consider this London Fog at Nordstrom…there are many size options and it is fun with the Nordstrom umbrella:

Stuffed in my boots, are my new JEGGINGS FROM CHICOS…so stylish and comfy!  Buy them tight, they do have some stretch in the fabric…but you will love how they feel.

Now I mentioned my hair….I am now a forever fan of the KERATASE HAIR SERUM …it is magic.  You pay a bit more…but so worth it for those of us who battle the frizz!  I am a recent convert!

Now, let’s go see how JENNIFER OF A WELL STYLED LIFE is battling the weather in Iceland as she enjoys a special birthday trip!  Then, tell us, what are your favorite ways to look great in the rain!

Have a safe and joyful week everyone!

I would like to note this topic was selected before flooding became so serious in Louisiana and some areas of Texas.  My heart and prayers are with those who are suffering.

  1. If all that rain could just be distributed more… It's heartbreaking to see all the flooding and the devastation and heartbreak it leaves behind. And here we are still in a severe drought in California…

I think a cute umbrella and some cute rain boots are a must on a rainy day! I never go without an umbrella either as my hair misbehaves with the slightest amount of moisture… The serum you mentioned sounds worth checking out!

  2. I agree with you, Andrea. It has been raining all night in South Texas and there are more hard hit areas this morning. It is sad when it causes pain to so many.
On another note, I do highly recommend the serum…the best I have used and I have tried many! Have a lovely day.

  3. Where I live, it rains a lot. We have far more overcast days than sunny days. I never thought of an umbrella as being nerdy, it is a must here. While I don't have rain boots, I pick my shoes based on weather conditions and will wear water tolerant ones in to work while carrying what I plan to wear inside for the day. Hair…mine Frizzes too, big time. I have several different ways of tying it back and this makes me feel more pulled together. I wear my hair up or tied back a lot in the summer!

  4. Love the boots and the umbrella! Your links to Nordstrom, Chicos & Macy's are all defaulting to Google for me? Had the same issue with your previous blog post. Is it me?

Anyway, you look great and I love your umbrella. I own several, but may have to find an animal print.

  5. Thanks for the heads up…these reward style links sometimes do this and I need to figure out what is going on…but it will be later today before I can. Sorry about the mix up…but thanks for letting me know.

  6. I will say, Karen, it is young people down here who mostly say an umbrella is nerdy…but I agree with you…I don't think so…and I prefer to look put together with tame hair as much as possible. I will pull it back, but do not wear mine up…wonderful that you like your look with it!

  7. Adorable rain duds. My daughter (now 20) always wanted rain boots and I always hesitated (just didn't want to spend the money). I sort of wish I had indulged her now!
