March’s Monthly Style Tip for Women Over 50

Where I live we just completed the warmest February on record, and blooming has begun.  It is only natural that color is on the minds of women over 50 for fashion choices.

My tip for March is to pay attention to the various shades of colors and go with what works best for you…weather it is “in style” or not.  Yellow is very in right now and was dominant on the runways for spring, but I do not look my best in pale yellow…I prefer a saffron-shade of yellow like I found in this jacket from Chicos.

It is easy to get caught up in new shades each year, but really more prudent to stick with what you know works.

There are a couple of new things I am trying this season…more about that later..but for now I am going to stick with what I know.  Remember:  the dressing room and three way mirror are your best friends when shopping.

I had difficulty at first deciding what color of shoes to put with this outfit.  Then I noticed the brown bead in the necklace and decided to go with the same color of shoe.  I liked it…it worked well to tie the outfit together. There’s an extra style tip for you!

What colors are you looking forward to wearing this March?

  1. Love this waterfall jacket and the color looks good on you! Will not be wearing yellow, grape leaf (olive), orange/red or green (Chico's colors)!! Only color for me will be blue as I know this works for me.

  2. Exactly, Mary, that is what I am talking about…the importance of finding what looks best on you and sticking with it…no matter what color is trending. So glad you have discovered it. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. I love the yellow color for a bag with all the blue & green I wear. As a blonde it helps my coloring continue into my outfit without having it near my face. I think this is a good thing???

  4. I started following your blog recently and just wanted to tell you how enjoyable i find it! I love your style, I appreciate your tips and pictures and I find reading your blog very relaxing. I became an empty nester recently, my husband just retired and I am in a state of transition. Like so many women my age (59) I have found it difficult to find my own fashion style since my identity isn't defined by a job or family obligations any longer. Suddenly, "dressing" myself became VERY challenging! Reading your blog, and others similar to it, has helped a great deal. I went to J Jill yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to discover that their Wearever collection is 25% off so I bought some "column" pieces, based on your recommendation. I feel like that is a good way to "dip my toe" into wardrobe building and I found it much easier to do so having seen the pictures that you've posted. So, thanks so much for all your help and I look forward to your future posts!

  5. Deborah, You comment brought me such joy…women like you are the reason I am here. I remember when I was exactly where you are and I truly hope to help. Please feel free to email me any time and thank you for this comment of encouragement and for being here. I look forward to hearing more about your reinvention!
