Hit Your Style Sweet Spot Over 50: What We Wear to Weddings

Welcome to a fun collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40.  We desire for all of us… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day.  After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning.  But, we both know just how transformative style can be, and hope to encourage you right here with occasional collaborations.  We want to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence

It is that time of year…wedding time…and, from your emails, it seems to cause angst among readers, as well as me!  My biggest challenge is what a women over 50 wears to a casual wedding!

I often wish I was in the dark  at night weddings, because I select garments which do not bring that much confidence.  But, I have changed my attitude recently about weddings.  Since, most of the ones I attend are casual, outdoor, country, Texas weddings, I am now a fan of wedding pants.  I recently showed to you this look I wore to an outdoor wedding….

I liked it and felt confident, cool, and comfy in my own skin.  I love the flowly, wider legged pants many women are selecting for weddings now.

So many women of a certain age still wear sleeveless dresses…honestly, some of these outdoor weddings can get really warm.  My daughters was in June and the temps were 108!  I am currently looking for one or two beautiful kimonos to wear to weddings over sleeveless dresses.  I think it is easier to find the kimonos than the dresses with sleeves. I want to feel confident at weddings.  It is one place where we see people or family from our past and it only makes since that we want to look and feel our best.   The addition of pants and kimonos to my possibility list has really helped me to breath easier….I already confessed to you my difficulty with dresses.  Now. let’s go see what JENNIFER OF A WELL STYLED LIFE is recommending, and then come back and share with us what you like to wear to weddings.  We want to know!

Keep Smiling!

  1. A kimono over a sleeveless dress would be perfect for a wedding. I love the flowing, wide-leg pants you wore. Since my Texas granddaughter is only eleven, we have a ways to go before a family wedding. Hopefully she won't choose summer…ha! Long time off…

  2. You look lovely — stylish, happy, and self-confident — in your flowy oufit. Great choice for a summer wedding! I think the kimono idea is a great one. Thanks for this feature.

  3. Pam – it's great to see you and Jennifer's Style Sweet Spot again. Has it been a while? We have been invited to several weddings this summer. Finding a dress for a wedding puts me in a panic because I have a hard time finding dresses too! Love the kimono or pants option. Had never thought of that!

  4. Those pants are wonderful on you! I see so many people wearing beautiful pants now to weddings, and I think it's brilliant.
    big hug,
    Janice

  5. It has been awhile on Sweet Spot…we are leading two very different and active lives right now…so it might be a while longer before we see it again. Thanks for the kind words, Cathy!

  6. You picked a perfect topic. Last summer I spent months trying to find a dress that wasn't made for the bride's 20-something friends (very short full skirts, tiny nipped in waists) or the bride's great great grandmother (you know that style). Everything else were figure hugging sheathe dresses. Even with watching what I eat and exercising, at age 68, my figure no longer conforms to those measurements. If the hips fit it won't zip closed at my waist. If the waist fits it balloons out around the hips and the shoulders are too wide. We won't even get into what age has done to my legs. (It had never occurred to me that they would sag.) I rarely wear dresses anymore. I wish I had seen your pants outfit last year. It's the perfect solution.
