Appreciate October Today

“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” ― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables.

We finally have cold weather in South Texas.  It feels amazing.  Everything feels fresh, crisp, cold, and snugly.  We are on the cusp of the countdown to Thanksgiving and then Christmas comes too quickly.  But, for now, today, I will enjoy October and all the beauty it has to offer.

It is truly a challenge for all of us to live one day at a time. We are women…moms and grandmothers…worrying is in our DNA.  But, try to just focus on today and all it offers.  If you do not have plans to enjoy, then make some.  Breathe deep the fresh air…go for a walk…go shopping…enjoy an outing.  Take time to look around you…in the faces of the people you meet and in the beauty of the changing season.  Wear saturated jewel toned colors and an accessory or two.  Choose to enjoy.

In a world where the news is crazy every day, and life is so different from how most of us were raised, one thing we can count on is that there are Octobers.   It is a time for my part of the country when the oppression of heat and humidity is blown out by autumn breezes.  Refreshment when we need it.

I encourage you to read the comments on THE POST ABOUT OSTEOPORSIS, the comments tell us all that we matter and need to take care of ourselves. Move around today and relish October…it’s about to be over.

Keep Smiling!

  1. Here’s to a cozy October day!! Raining and 39 here right now, but fall is such a beautiful time!

  2. Sounds like a perfect day for some relaxation…I know you work hard during the week…so you probably need to power down a bit. Enjoy!

  3. I’m enjoying the blog and all your lovely comments from here in Vancouver, Canada where it’s sunny, crisp and a cool 50 degrees. I always wonder where you are when I read your comments, especially when you report late October temperatures in the high 80’s! The weather is such a big factor when we’re deciding what to wear and I appreciate the outfits you show us, Pamela, for making our way through these transitional days.

  4. Pam, I couldn’t agree with you more! Today was chilly and rainy with a few snowflakes in the air. There were about 100 other things that needed doing, but my husband and I spent this afternoon taking a leisurely drive and then stopped for lunch. It was just the perfect way to spend this October afternoon.

  5. But where are you, Karen, Jennifer and Beth, to have summer heat and snowflakes on the same day?

  6. Diana, your words are so kind…and I am happy to have you joining in from Canada. I am in sunny San Antonio, Texas which today is enjoying an amazing autumn day with cool weather which will go into the 30s tonight and I cannot wait. I am lounging in a lovely cashmere jacket that I am going to wear this week on the blog and it just has me smiling, because I do not get to wear cashmere often. I would love to have more seasonal weather…but we have our pluses here too. Thanks for being here!

  7. I am visiting SanAntonio next Thursday for the first time. Weather forecast hot again. Wardrobe suggestions ?

  8. Diana, I live in northern Ohio — where we can have spring, summer, fall and winter in the same week — and don’t think anything of it!!

  9. I think next week we expect a little fall and spring. It shouldn’t be hot, but on Thursday I think they are forecasting sun and the 70s during the day which means you will see some in shorts and some in sweaters. I like to wear suit jackets with denim at this time, ponchos and kimonos. I also wear light summer cardigans in winter colors…like grey, black, and blue.

  10. Pam, what a beautifully written and inspiring ode to October!
Every word rings true. It’s a lovely autumn here in California as well, now that it is cooling down. Thanks for today’s blog and for all of the helpful advice you share with us.
