Fashion Over 50: Mix It Up with A Different Jean

I have worn my skinny jeans (Metro Leggings by Soft Surroundings) for along time and I thought it might be fun to mix things up a bit with a bootcut jean.  When I tried these on last weekend at Roz & Ali, I really liked them and for under thirty dollars…it made sense to give another denim cut a try.I only wear dark wash denim now…I think it is more flattering and has a more polished look to it.  These boot cut jeans are so comfy and hang beautifully.  I am excited to have a different cut to style.Add a cute jacket and a colorful necklace and I am good to go! Oh, and the knit top underneath the jacket is a beautiful purple and was $19 at Roz & Ali.  I believe through this weekend, everything is 25% off…(of already reasonable prices.

What are your favorite jeans like…color, cut, etc. Have you considered trying a different jean…just for fun?  I do recommend Roz & Ali if you want a variety of sizes and styles.  They covered it.

I want to thank everyone for your great comments yesterday.  My sweet friend had surgery and it doing well.  Thank you for the well wishes and concerns…and all the encouragment to those who need to be up and moving more.  You are the best!

Keep Smiling!

  1. I really like boot cut jeans. They seem to balance out proportions best. I like your boots a lot, and it looks like the length of the jeans is spot on! I think we need a variety of jean cuts in our wardrobes. The slim or skinny jeans for looser, flowy tops, and the boot cuts for closer-fitting tops and jackets. My sister even has trouser jeans that look good on her, but I look like I’m a block on the bottom in those (she’s taller!) It’s all about proportions, and we need to just stand in front of a mirror and decide which jeans cut goes with which tops! I tend to go with darker washes too, except in the summer I do have some faded jeans that I like a lot. I often think I have way too many pairs of jeans, but then can you really have too many??!! 😉

  2. I like boot cut jeans. I think they look better with boots than my skinny ones do. Something about the proportion is more pleasing to
my eye. These look great on you! Great shape!

  3. Well, I live in Texas…no one here has only one pair of jeans! I like trouser jeans and I have been in search of a new pair of those as well. Thanks Karen.

  4. I was very pleased with the fit of these Jennifer. I would go back to Roz & Ali for another pair!

  5. Pamela — I love your blog and your style! I appreciate your blend of classic with a bit of artistic/funky flair, and you shop at all the stores I do. I am trying to make those two styles blend. You are setting great examples for me. Plus, I live in Birmingham, AL so the climates aren’t terribly different which is a plus. Take your cool autumn days when you can get them!

Have you tried NYDJ — They are pricey, but fit wonderfully. I found a dark wash pair of trouser jeans at Nordstrom Rack for $20, so it is work checking that place out periodically. TJ Maxx also carries them sometimes. Those have been my best fitting jeans so far. Ironically, I also find a really nice fitting pair of dark wash, boot-cut jeans at K-Mart (RIP) that were Jaqueline Smith brand, I think. They fit like a glove. Thanks for the inspiration.

  6. Thanks so much, Jeannine…so glad you are here. I love NYDJ and found a great pair on a Dillards clearance rack. All of our KMarts closed here but thanks for suggesting that for others! Happy Friday!

  7. I love your jacket. It looks so polished yet so effortless. It’s perfect with boot cut jeans. I prefer boot cut and could use some jackets to go with them. Although I’ve purchased many pair of skinny jeans, when I get home and try to style them, they just don’t look right. Ugh!

  8. Thank you, Creal. This jacket is from Chico’s and they often have styles like this. You might check them out.
