Good Health Spices I Use Every Day

As long as we were discussing working out and our health this week, I thought I would share with you the three spices I eat every single day…and have for months.  They are cayenne pepper, cinnamon, and turmeric.I actually put a dash of cayenne pepper and cinnamon in my morning protein shake (Who doesn’t need a little kick in the morning).  The shake consists of a cup of Almond Milk, a scoop of the Whole Food Protein Mix by Juice Plus, a pinch of chia seeds, a pinch of flaxseeds, and a few chucks of frozen mango…with the spices of course. It is a delicious way to start my day…I make this concoction after I return from the gym in the morning.  Now, the turmeric is in my tea which I drink on ice later in the morning every day.

Here are the benefits of each which convinced me to begin a daily routine with the spices…all areas I need help in…

  1. Big fan of spices here! I use cinnamon every day in my coffee and on my oatmeal. Love cayenne in anything because I love hot, spicy food. I have read about the benefits of these things and have to keep reminding myself to use them often. I don’t use turmeric as much, though know I should. How do you use that in tea? I don’t like hot tea unless it’s herbal, but I do like iced tea (have to hold myself back from turning it into sweet tea, which is a weakness!) I have tried to use the turmeric in dishes when cooking, but often forget. I also use Ancho powder and cumin a lot. And smoked Spanish paprika, which has some health benefits too and it’s wonderful! Spices add so much flavor to dishes!

  2. How much turmeric do you put in your tea? I’d like to try it, but haven’t used it before. Thanks, Pam!

  3. I have started drinking a Golden Latte just about every day. it contains 1/2 tsp turmeric, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 tsp ginger, a bit of freshly ground nutmeg, a pinch of cayenne and enough stevia to sweeten to taste…all in 2 cups of unsweetened almond milk. I heat it and drink…often as a dessert. It is also good chilled.

As well, I brew my coffee with ground cinnamon included in the ground coffee.

  4. Occasionally, I throw the turmeric in a veggie dish. It gives it an Eastern taste. Thanks for sharing Karen
