Last week, I wrote in THIS POST about neglect of my own self care for the past year.  I told you I was beginning an I MATTER CLEANSE for about 14 days.  This is an intensive time of getting back on the right track to place myself at the top of my own priority list.  So, today is an update on how things went for week one.  I will discuss my blood pressure situation in a separate post so watch for it.  But, today I want you to know, after I followed my plan from last week, that I am doing amazing, and my state of mind is strong, vibrant, and joyful.  I feel more like my old self than I have in a very long time.

First, M-F, I went to the gym at 5AM every morning and I did meet my goal to stay an extra 15 minutes or longer than I usually do each day.  MondayWednesday, and Friday are my treadmill cardio days and my usual routine is to be there for 40 minutes…which equals about 2 ¼ miles of power walking.  Last week, I stayed one hour which was a little over 3 miles of power walking.  Tuesdays and Thursdays are my strength training classes, so last week I did up my weights in a way approved by my trainers as not to injure myself. Then after 45 minutes of working with weights, I went back to the treadmill for 10 minutes of cardio to increase my fat burn.  I am resting my body over the weekend, but will return to the activity at the gym Monday morning.

Also, I moved my home office from downstairs to upstairs and set up a completely new office.  This required carrying weight up and down for several rounds.  That day, I admit I was exhausted at the end of the day. ( I will do a post on my office soon and tell you how I did this on a budget and where the pieces came from).

I kept waiting to get an email from FITBIT asking if I gave the device to another woman as a gift!! Just because the numbers are so drastically increased from what they have been since receiving the FITBIT as a gift at Christmas.  I confess it has motivated me to move more and hit certain goals.

I only had one weak moment during the week with my eating.  For the most part, it was all healthy and clean with limited snacking and much smaller portions.   There was an apple pie incident we will not discuss and quickly forget.

I also had a couple of days where I had moments to just be still.  I turned out the lights, turned on the SOUNDSCAPES music on Direct TV, lit a wonderful candle from FROSTED HOME, put a super moisturizing anti-oxidant face mask on, and laid down for thirty minutes at a time in my own little home spa.  It was refreshing and energizing!  There have also been several mornings of sitting in the cool air with my coffee on my patio, and just listening to the birds sing their springtime songs.

Finally, I have been purposeful this past week to call friends and go out to lunch or stop by and say hello.  I needed to re-connect with some people I have not seen in a while.  Those friendships are important to me.

Needless to say, I feel like a new person!!   There is something else I did this week that I have not done in a long, long time and it was a blast.  I will write about it tomorrow, so please return.

Once again, I cannot say how important it is that we take care of ourselves.  A few of you have told me that you think your job is killing you…that is where I was.  In the midst of all that goes on around you, make a decision to care for yourself…even while you are doing the difficult job.  It can be done.  And, there are some of you who just need to say “NO” more and replace it with time for yourself.  Self- care is not about spending more money on yourself, but can be as simple as an evening walk in the neighborhood, a change in diet, or open the sunroof of the car!.  It is also not about pride or arrogance, but just the opposite.  By caring for ourselves and showing ourselves respect, we can do more for the ones we love and for our neighborhoods and our communities.

My I MATTER CLEANSE continues into next week, and I will report back with any new observations.  I am so glad that I finally opened my eyes to my own health and state of mind.  It feels great to be back!

P.S. There are still some great sales going on.  Found some new items below…hope everyone is having an amazing weekend!
