Would You Wear It with Pam & Jennifer

Finally, the weekend and time for another WOULD YOU WEAR IT with me and Jennifer Connolly.  When I began these posts, I wanted to see what you thought of the clothes to wear and what you thought of the displays as visual merchandising which make you want to buy and support the store.  So, after you comment on the clothing today, also tell us if these clothes entice you to be customer of the store. You may comment on one or both outfits….and make sure you explain your answers…that is one of the reasons women love this series.   So, ladies, look this over and tell us…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

WOULD YOU WEAR IT, AND WOULD YOU SHOP HERE BASED ON WHAT YOU SEE?

Now,, head over to A Well Styled Life to see what Jennifer has for us today.

HAPPY WEEKEND, AND KEEP SMILING!

  1. I love the sheer fabrics, but I don’t think either of these outfits would be flattering on me. I like the butterflies on the outfit on the right, but the rest of it just hangs like a sack.
I like all of the left outfit, but I don’t think it would fit well with my hips!

  2. The only thing I would consider wearing is the white top on the left. The skirt would overwhelm me and I don’t like cutesy prints (i.e. butterflies). The full top over full bottoms looks messy. Overall, no.

  3. This display does not entice me to shop here. The things that immediately come to mind are “very sloppy” on the left and “those butterflies…what are they thinking” on the right. Doesn’t make me want to shop, based on 5 his display. Proportions on the fru-fru butterfly outfit cut the body in half which is not visually appealing. The one on the left lacks creativity and looks like they just grabbed a shirt on a whim, creating a very bland outfit. Just how I see it. I would always give other things a chance, but this display would not draw me in.

  4. I would walk by that store if those displays were in the window. The outfit on the left is slightly better since I feel the top balances out the skirt. The shirt on the left minus butterflies would be cute with cropped leggings.

  5. I can see the appeal of each item but would not combine them as these are. I often wonder why stores hire very young girls to dress their mannequins who have no clue what works together. A degree in visual merchandising doesn’t mean you know how to dress a woman, and that’s who a mannequin represents.

  6. For me at 5’1″ these outfits would be a big “no”. There are too many horizontal lines and color blocks on them both. I don’t like butterflies on my clothes because I feel they are too whimsical for me. Butterflies on clothing make me think of my grandmother. I prefer a more sophisticated look. Also, I think the fabrics look cheap and would probably be a wear once outfit. I know that fast-fashion has become very popular with the younger set and these two outfits make me think of that. I would not be enticed to go into a store if these outfits were in the window. I wouldn’t want to waste my time or money on these.

  7. This display is not enticing at all to me. Too fluffy, too much fabric, looks kind of aging. I would not shop this area…

  8. I would not wear either one of these outfits because of all the color blocks and horizontal lines. I don’t care for butterflies on my clothing because I feel they are too whimsical for me. I prefer a more sophisticated look. Also, I think the fabrics look cheap and would they be a one time wear outfit. I know fast fashion has become popular, but I avoid it. These clothes make me think of fast fashion. I would not be enticed to go into a store if these outfits were on display in the window. I would not want to waste my time or money.

  9. Neither would be flattering on me so no wouldn’t wear them at least not together. I might wear the tops with leggings so I am not overwhelmed by the fabric. All the loose flowing fabric would make me look like a giant rectangle.

  10. I’m curious about the blue pants. I would consider wearing them with a more fitted partly tucked shirt. The butterflies are a definite no on my small frame.
The outfit on the left is a definite no for me and unless you are tall and thin, I would run away fast from that look. Hey! Maybe take the shirt on the left and put it with the blue pants, accessorize, and go!

  11. A big no for me on both. They are both very sloppy looking and look like someone just threw anything together. I don’t like any of the pieces individually either. They look very bohemian/hippieish( sp?) to me. Not at all classy or polished!

  12. Out of all 4 pieces, I would wear the white t-shirt, but not tucked in. The skirt it’s paired with wouldn’t look good on my ‘no waste’ shape. Not crazy about the pattern on it either. The second outfit, the pants are too shapeless for me, (my legs are my best feature, so I don’t wear anything that does the opposite, hides them) and the top is cute and fun, …on a little girl with those butterflies.

  13. These are definitely not my style. I don’t like the fabric as I wear a lot of linen and silk, and I have never liked baggy pants or skirts that are gathered and appear dated.

At age 66, I don’t wear sleeveless tops; although I love the blouses from Anthropology along with a pair of jeans or legging. I am tall; so, I can get away with a lot of styles and share clothes with my daughters at times..:)

  14. I’m a costume designer and honestly, I just did a show where I had butterflies on the skirt of the ballgown. Seriously? It looks like a costume to me. I get the whole romance and fantasy of the soft flowly fabrics, but both of these don’t look like they are for reality at all.

  15. Good for you, Patricia. My personal goal is to wear more looks like you see at Anthropologie when I retire.

  16. I wouldn’t wear either outfit. The one on the right with the butterfly top and the blue skirt is just plain ugly. I cannot even picture a tall and shapely woman (not me!) looking attractive in that outfit. Sorry, but sometimes I think designers just put something together just to see how many of us would actually put it on.

The one on the right is quite a bit better but definitely blah. And the color blocking on the skirt just cuts the body off giving the impression of really short legs. Hopefully that store carries more attractive outfits as well as these.

  17. Nope, my eyes went directly to the skirt with the wide light color at the hips. Then, a darker color on the bottom…Often, I see skirts with 3 colors and the lightest color at the hips. How ’bout doing us “pears” a favor and give us soft, blended shading (or bold colors) but “downplay” the hips. LOL

  18. I’d put the loose top on the right with skinny jeans or other close fitting pants….I don’t like the rectangle look that this outfit portrays. I think the left outfit is just kind of droopy and sad…doesn’t do it for me.

  19. No – for either mannequin! The clothes are too voluminous for my fuller figure and would only add bulk. I try to keep to clothes closer to my body and better fitting! Have a great weekend!

  20. I would wear the outfit on the left but not the one on the right. The butterflies are just a little frou frou for me and I don’t do sleeveless. I like the white and grey on the left. As others mentioned, I am concerned about fit at the hips, but I like the look of the outfit. It is classic yet casually cool. I would at least want to try it on. I would shop at the store if they carried my size – plus sizes.

  21. No to both outfits. I don’t like the sheer fabric & both seem “messy” to me. I wouldn’t shop in that particular department of the store, but I wouldn’t rule out the entire store just from this display.

  22. This doesn’t fit my personal style goals, especially as it violates my “polished” statement about me. As for the merchandising, I like to see a couple of accessory choices with clothing. However, I do like that the store looks neat and organized. I hate trying to look through an overstuffed rack, where clothing is falling off the hangars and you can find one piece, but nothing to put together a “look.” So I might pause and look a bit in this department. But in terms of draw you in cleverness, no, I don’t think this display gets high marks.

  23. These outfits look like something that was pulled put of the rag bag. So, no, I would not wear them.

  24. No for either outfit. Not visually appealing (to me) and they’re ‘memorable’ trendy outfits, which I rarely think is a wise use of my clothing dollars. Don’t think either would be flattering for me

  25. you asked about patronizing the store. I looked past the mannequins and checked out what I saw on the racks. Unfortunately, I did not care for what I saw and would most likely pass on this store. Too much unflattering prints and much too boxy…but I am looking at stuff on hangers. But it does seem to all look alike.
Of course, we all have individual preferences. That is what makes us all unique

  26. You are right, Mari. Visual merchandising has always intrigued me and that is why I asked.

  27. From the frumpy tops in the background I think this may have been the old and middle-aged department.
I like the top but not the pants. Overall I’m not sure where I’d wear either of these outfits, but they definitely look like they could drip dry easily and not need ironing!

  28. I’m Boho! Really love the whimsical butterflies and softness of the top. The collar is cute too. I would definitely wear both top and pants. The skirt has appeal for me too although too long for me. Thanks for showing a wide range of “would you wear it”.

  29. The mannequins definitely turn me off from buying which is a shame. I can’t identify with the styles or outfits on most mannequins in stores and this is no different. I actually wrote a store in the last year telling them if I wasn’t their target market just say so because I couldn’t find anything in their store to buy. Btw, I just want to a local boutique this afternoon and spent $450.That’s money the larger stores aren’t getting from me. I can’t be the only one.

  30. I really like sheer fabrics, but I don’t think either of these outfits was put together very well. I think the skirt on the left could be really striking with the right top — but the one it is paired with doesn’t work at all. As someone mentioned above, it looks bland! I like the blue pants on the right, but again they need a different top. Neither outfit compliments the female form. It’s a shame because they could have been quite wonderful!

  31. I too looked past the mannequins and did not like what I saw. The items In the background appear very matronly and unflattering. As for the outfits on the display, I can see how the individual pieces might be ‘great’ in the right situation, but when merchandised together as outfits they appear messy, sloppy, and unflattering. Where are the people who understand women’s bodies when these stores are paying someone to dress their mannequins? Fortunately by the time I was 50, I understood myself better than the person who dressed this mannequin. I am not attracted to this store based on the mannequin, but then again, I trust my own judgement when shopping for my 58 year old body.
