Fashion Over 50: Fall is All About Plaid

Fall fashion trends 2018 will be remembered for many things, but perhaps most for plaids!  So many variations of plaid prints are in style this year, and they give those of use who love a classic, tailored look a reason to rejoice.

This jacket is from Soft Surroundings and I am wearing it with my Soft Surroundings Metro Legging Black Denim pants. .  I like this jacket so much because it works for my pofessioinal wardrobe, as well as, my casual wardrobe.  The cut is falttering, and different from a traditional blazer style.  I also think I wil be able to wear it often, because it is not that heavy and will be practically perfect in every way for South Texas.

So, tell me…what do you think of plaids, checks, gingham….do you wear these prints often?  I have two new plaid jackets…this is the first and if you would like to see more from Soft Surroundings, just check out the slideshow below.  Tell us how you feel about this trend, and as always…………………………………………………

KEEP SMILING!!

  1. I have always loved plaid since I was a young girl…. probably because it reminds me of Fall! I also think it is very classic, traditional and refined ! Also, reminds me of a very “British” look! I even like school uniforms ?. Love your jacket… very versatile. It will look great with jeans or dress pants! ??

  2. I once heard a line on the Mary Tyler Moore show that suits me perfectly. “Plaid is my favorite color”. In the fall I love wearing my plaid fall colored shirts, especially.

  3. Plaid suits me perfectly. There was a line long ago in the Mary Tyler Moore Show, “Plaid is my favorite color”. I especially love wearing my fall colored plaid shirts during this season.

  4. Plaid, tartan etc I love. It is classic. I grew up wearing a plaid skirt as part of my uniform for high school and I guess to this day I love plaid.

  5. I’ve always loved the traditional plaids in office wear. I never grow tired of the gray, black and red fine plaid or the green and navy tartan. Does anyone else miss the year of the wool walking shorts with tights? I had some dynamite tartan plaid shorts with a soft yellow crew neck sweater. Sometimes I’d wear a navy blazer with them (not with the sweater).

Out of my comfort zone this year I bought a red and black flannel button down tunic to wear with jeans. I decided if I don’t like it as a tunic, I can wear it unbuttoned with a shirt under it. I have a pair of red boots I think might pull it together. Since it’s still in the 80’s in Ohio, it might be a while before I try it.

  6. I love looking at plaid but I don’t own any. A jacket like this might make change that. I love the idea of a knit soft blazer and the plaid is subtle enough to go with many things. I looks terrific on you!

  7. I have always liked plaid. I have a couple soft cozy plaid shirts that I love wearing. I bought a black & white gingham blouse in the spring & have worn it quite a bit.

  8. You look great, Pamela and can certainly carry this new trend off. You are tall, and confident looking. I am short and don’t really favor plaids or ginghams except as accessory.
When I reach for a jacket / blazer I need a solid or subtle stripe cut in like princess/traditional that accentuates my waist, giving me a waist…not the boxier trends I Am seeing.
I love your looks. I see that you are an interesting, fashion forward woman.

  9. I love this jacket! Perfect for work and casual. This may be a purchase for me as well. As for plaid, my roots are Scottish, so who wouldn’t love it. I have a beautiful cape in my clan tartan, but the rest of my plaid items are casual. Thanks for sharing. Amy

  10. I’ve always liked plaid. Maybe it’s my Scottish heritage! I have a couple of plaid shirts that will get lots of wear this fall and winter. My favourite is black, white, and grey in a soft flannel fabric. I’m not as fond of gingham and other checkered patterns though.
