My Welcome to Fall

Just as if I wrote the script, South Texas has welcomed fall with cooler breezes, clouds, rain and football.  I am breathing deep the experience.  This is a very busy time for my family.  Everyone was in town this week for a football game and shopping.  Perhaps, what is most important is that we wait “not so patiently” for the arrival of a new grandson.  If he does not come on his own before Wednesday, then he will arrive with some inducing!  I cannot think of a better way to usher in fall than with a baby.

On Saturday, we made homemade pumpkin donuts with the grandchilden (Thank you Joanna Gaines for the recipe in her new Magnolia Magazine).  They were delicious and fun to do.  While shopping with my daughter, we stopped for a Pumpkin Spice Latte, of course.

Pumpkins are beginning to arrive on the scene everywhere.  I am still waiting for the cooking pumpkins which I will roast, puree, and freeze for breads and pies.  I did this last year and it makes such a difference.  I have to thank the Pioneer Woman for that PUMPKIN PUREE RECIPE.  The flavors are deeper, richer than pumpkin from the can.

Well, you all know how excited I am about my fall clothes!  I hope to show you some of the actual, lighter weight, fall looks I will wear this week.  Of course, with everything happening with the family, blogging may be a bit sporadic this week, but I will do my best to keep things interesting and helpful.

What are your favorite things about the season…the food, the clothing, the color, the decorations….or all of it!??  I have a random slide show below that we will just call ODE TO FALL.  Have a wonderful day and………………………………………………………………………………

KEEP SMILING!

  1. I like all the flavors and aromas of fall. The grocery story linked to my radar on Friday. They put all these special items on displays where you practically trip over them. I bought Starbuck’s pumpkin spice latte mix, even pumpkin Poptarts (I am embarrassed to admit I bought them but they nearly fell into my cart). I made a huge pot of vegetable soup that evening with all the fresh vegetables I could find. In the Midwest our local, fresh vegetables are about to go into “hibernation” until next year. Now if you can help me to like winter as much as fall, I could use the advice.

  2. Fall is my favorite season too. Your post brought to mind so many things I love about it. I like to travel in the fall to see all the gorgeous colors before it all gives way to…not going to say it! Fall sports are high on my list: high school and college football, traveling to watch my grandsons play high school soccer, weekend jaunts to the nearby national park to enjoy a stroll in the fall air, and of course, bundling up in sweaters and wraps, boots, fall clothes. The air is less humid, the sky is more blue, it just smells different. Now that you brought it up, I’m craving a pumpkin spice latte!

  3. I love everything about fall! The colors are rich & vibrant. The aromas of apples & spices make me want to cook things. The sounds of high football games come in through my open windows because I live close to the local high school. I love the feel of the cool breezes & soft cozy clothes, & who can resist the taste of crisp apples & pumpkin spice everything.

  4. I am just like you, Nina. Just a few minutes ago I was looking for a good pumpkin spice cupcake recipe!

  5. I loved watching my sons play football…but we watch our favorite colleges and professional team. It is always a time for chili and homemade soup! Thanks Karen.

  6. How exciting and congratulations on your grandchild. I have never made my own pumpkin puree. I love Pioneer Woman recipes but this is one I haven’t tried yet. Also, the pumpkin doughnuts sound interesting. I need to check out the magazine. I’ve made pumpkin chocolate chip muffins yesterday and got my fall decorations out finally. Love the cooler temperatures today.

  7. Hi Pam! Congrats on the new grandbaby! So exciting! Country Living magazine has a great Pumpkin and Cream Cheese Muffin recipe, along with other Pumpkin Spice recipes!
