The idea of robots caring for the elderly has been written of before, but I heard on ABC News this week that progress has been made. Here is one of the articles, Robots for Elder Care.  I would love to know what you think about this.  I guess if there is no one else to help that this is an option, but I struggle with the idea of being cared for by a robot.  Anyone else?

  1. I found the article on robots to be disturbing. I understand the problems associated with the aging population and lack of caregivers, especially good ones. It just seems our culture increasingly takes the human element out of more and more all the time. I don’t think we were ever intended to live this way, and where does it stop?

The blood pressure article was interesting. I’m not much of a meat eater, but know that I can improve my eating habits overall. This is a challenge for me to work on that!

    The warm and cozy drinks…yum!!

  2. As a morning person myself, I loved reading your comments! Interesting!

As far as considering robots caring for the disabled, post surgical or elderly in nursing homes, it’s worth thinking about for routine tasks, but for decision making, compassionate care, I’m not so sure. My 101 year old mom was in a nursing home, suffered a broken hip and fractured pelvis. Turning her gently to hand bathe took 2 to 3 CNAs at times. She was in terrible pain until hospice came in. The staff was so gentle with her, but still……I just cannot imagine a robot handling similar tasks.

  3. I am also a morning person. I do most of my work early, shut down after I sit down in the evening! I can’t imagine robots giving care, even routine tasks. When people are sick, they need the compassionate care that only another person can give them. The human touch is healing.

  4. too find it hard to imagine a robot taking care of me! Thay better have soft warm hands to move me around. Who cares about the rmote! Enjoyed the thr articles. Thanks for your research.

  5. As far as robots taking care of us, I submitted a comment here this morning . Apparently my device failed me! Will robots do any better!? I think it’s disturbing to think about. Our culture is gradually removing more and more of the human element in so many areas, and I don’t think it was ever intended to be that way.

I think the blood pressure article is quite interesting. I’m not a big meat eater, but could improve my eating habits in general, so this is both a challenge and encouragement to me!

I’m also a morning person and can accomplish so much before noon! I love getting up early and have a morning routine that starts the day in a positive way. Evening is a different story…I’m wrung out by 8 p.m.!!

  6. OOOPS…saw that one of you comments posted late. Sorry about that…but I so agree with you that the robot story is depressing and disturbing. I hope to have one of those warm drinks this weekend…we are expecting a front!

  7. I understand, Paulette…there are so many things I could not imagine a robot doing and it shows such a disrespect for our elderly.

    (Here’s to morning people!)

  8. I will always be a morning person…just cannot imagine it any other way. I love the morning. Thanks Freda.
