Today's Headlines for Women over 50 with Pamela Lutrell

Happy Sunday before Thanksgiving everyone and welcome to Today’s News for Women Over 50 where I curate news headlines I believe will be of interest to many readers in this audience.  Just remember if there is something here that is health related, discuss it with your doctor before you make big changes.  Always good to have your medical professional chiming in on your health.

So, let’s get started.  Please feel free to comment on one or more of these articles.  I welcome your opinions and want to hear your thoughts.

Pamela Lutrell on sleeping habits for women over 50

I wrote before on the blog that I have had difficulty sleeping ever since the time changed recently and sadly that has not changed.  That is why this particular article caught my attention.  It is different from the sleep article I brought to you before because a study has been done and had results revealed.  Read Study: Falling Asleep, Staying Asleep Growing More Difficult For Americans Each Year.

I wonder if there is anyone in another country who does not think this is just an issue for Americans!

This is a good article to read before Thanksgiving.  I believe there is a lot of truth here and that we could even go deeper as to the dangerous effects of a critical spirit.  Read How Complaining Rewires Your Brain for Negativity.

  1. Some good stuff here! Can we hear a resounding AMEN to not using artificial sweeteners? A so-called nutrition expert has been on our local morning news, touting (and bragging about) the use of artificial sweeteners. I pinned the article about 9 Healthy Habits That Don’t Involve Exercise to my Taking Care of the Temple board on Pinterest.

  2. Interesting article about sleep. I started putting devices away about two hours before going to sleep and it has greatly improved my quality of rest. I need to leave my phone on due to having an elderly parent who might need help, but I don’t pick it up and look at it within two hours of going to bed. This is to much of a coincidence to not be related. I have been on the anti-artificial sweetener bandwagon for eons now, having learned many years ago about cancer and other risks. You have to read labels because they sneak them in so many things. They just make you crave more sweets and also contribute to weight gain. Bad news, those things! Good tips for staying healthy, although exercise does factor in for sure.

  3. Yes, it does…exercise makes a huge difference. I need to get serious about the devices! Thanks Karen!

  4. Hi Pam,
One of the tips I found about sleep was that many of us are low in magnesium so I decided to try a supplement before bed and I am sleeping much more deeply and straight throughout the night. It’s amazing how much of a difference this makes. Dale
