Would You Wear It with Pam & Jennifer

Pamela Lutrell discusses what women over 50 wear

I cannot believe how fast the days go sometimes!  It is already time for another Would You Wear It with me and my friend Jennifer.  We find fashion displays while out and about and bring to you the ones we wonder what you would think about the clothing.  We ask you to look the display over and tell the readers if you would or would not wear the clothing and explain why it doesn’t work for you.  Please keep it personal to you, so that if someone likes or dislikes the opposite, they will not get offended by your remarks.  All of us can say, oh that would or would not work for me because……….

Over 50 Feeling 40 asks women if they would wear this

You may certainly tell us what you think of both outfits in my first picture.  But, it was this sweater which made me want to bring it before my audience.  Look the display over and then tell us, ladies………………………………………….

WOULD YOU WEAR IT???

Make sure you go to A Well Styled Life to see what Jennifer found for us this week!

Yesterday after work, I went out and about to stop at a few stores and picture dinner for me and Mr. B.  It was cold and I was dressed accordingly. It was dark at 6:00.  I went into Bath & Bodyworks and all of their Christmas scented candles were out with Christmas music playing.  The whole outing just felt like Christmas…which I love and I am not complaining about.  It just amazes me how it seemed we went from 100 degree days and summer to Christmas so quickly.

In the spirit of it all, I hope you have enjoyed the gifts in my slide shows and I will continue with it until shopping days are over for this holiday season.  Now, tell us what you think about these mannequins and as always…………………………….

KEEP SMILING!!

Now for some gift ideas!

  1. Yikes – When I look at the sweater I think about barnacles growing on the side of a ship.
I love those chunky shaker knit sweaters but the embellishment is a too much for me.

I’m giving my road-warrior sons and husband sets of sustainable cutlery for them to keep in their travel bags so they can minimize their use of plastic throw-away spoons, forks and knives.

  2. Personally I love the sweater The embellishment is what would take people’s eyes off my midsection (my problem area).

  3. This sweater is not for me, partly because this particular neutral-ish shade would wash me out. Also, to me it looks like it has been through the washer and dryer and looks shrunken.

  4. The cream sweater has too much bling for me. I would like it without all the added stuff. I would rather wear a plain sweater and add my jewelery or a scarf.
The red sweater has too much going on. The print, the grommets, etc. I do like the slim pants. Happy Saturday.

  5. I would try the sweater if it came in another color. I’m not sure the embellishments would be a good thing or not, but I am not totally turned off by them.

  6. oh, im afraid the sweater is a shuddering no for me…far too much bulk. Sweaters of that thickness dont really need anything else, maybe a pin, or a thin pendant necklace.
i kind of like the red/black blouse, even though it wouldnt work on me, it is interesting and different.

  7. I like the pants on both models and would wear those. The beige sweater would not work with my coloring. I need more of a caramel beige near my face to avoid looking washed out. It looks rather misshapen to me, stretched out. The embellishments at the neckline would completely overwhelm me, so no to that sweater. I prefer wearing things more understated and fitted. The red top would work for me colorwise, but not stylewise. I don’t look good in turtleneck tops. I have to stick with scoop or v-necks. I can’t really tell what’s going on with the red one. Is it an overlay with the cowl neck underneath, or does it have side insets… I would steer clear of side insets because to me it would look like I was trying to mask something and end up calling attention to the very thing I was trying to hide, if that makes sense! I love to wear red, but this isn’t working for me. I really like the pants!

  8. At 5′, the sweater would overwhelm me, but I have a Florida friend who is 5’9″ and has the cleavage to wear it. This would be something she’d take a second look at.

  9. Both outfits are a yes for me. I am short and overweight With a smallish bust. . I need to keep attention near my face, shoulders or chest. The necklines are both good for my body type but the V-neck especially. Dark straight legged pants are best for me to lengthen and skim my chunky legs

  10. I wouldn’t wear the beige sweater. The colour’s not great with my colouring and the large embellishment would completely overwhelm my narrow frame. I really like the black and red tunic but Would prefer If it was a cowl neck (turtlenecks make me feel like I’m being strangled).

  11. Do like the pants, however the sweater for myself a definite no, To explain; prefer something more fitted, the color is wrong for my complexion, the loose ‘n wide cut 3/4 length sleeve would make awkward dressing if worn under and jacket or coat as so might its lower hemline plus in this regard the crewel work embellishment (?) just doesn’t appeal to me as have seen much nicer application on other garments whereas IMHO this just seems to be overdone. Wishing you a beautiful weekend Pamela.

P.S.: Re the the other outfit, I feel would look amazing and suit others but it too is not for me both in style and color.

  12. The beige sweater looks misshapen and the embellishments are too heavy. The red sweater has too much going on for me; the chunky neckline, abstract pattern and details down the side would just add bulk. It’s still in the 90’s here and I don’t see sweaters like these in my future!

  13. I would have to try it on. I usually look better in a warmer white. It does look shaped to create a bit of a waist, which is good. I would also have to see the quality of the beading in person. Overall, I doubt I would buy it as it is too distinctive to get enough mileage out of in my wardrobe, which I hope to pare down as I look ahead to retirement. I have plenty of accessories to jazz up a plainer version of this sweater.

  14. Wow! The ivory sweater is a but over the top fir me, with stones or beads on the front. I don’t believe Inwould wear it. ( I live near the bay and the comment about barnicles made me chuckle).

The other is just not my taste, or style. I might like to see this on a tall, statuesque girl, not me.

  15. I like the shape of the sweater, the V neck, fit and flare. However, the color would not work against my olive skin and the embellishments are way to large for my 38 G chest. Yikes!

  16. I think the beige sweater is awkwardly-shaped. I feel it would make me look lumpier than I am. I do love v necks but the embellishment makes the low point of the v low enough that it looks like an arrow pointing directly at my tummy! I need to keep the interest higher.

  17. As others have said, the cream color sweater looks misshapen and definitely has too much stuff on it. I would really like it sans bling and slimmer fitting to be worn under a jacket, as a wardrobe basic. I probably wouldn’t wear the red one. Quite memorable. Although I have a couple droopy cowl neckline sweaters, I find them awkward, frequently needing adjustment and hard to wear under a winter jacket.

  18. personally, i would never purchase the beige embellished sweater. too much and too thick embellishments.
love the red outfit!! with the black ba t’s it is slimming and elongates.

  19. The sweater color and beading would not work for my coloring or body type. The top on the right is also not for me. I would wear the pants.

  20. I look awful in beige! I don’t care for the embroidery on the heavy knit. I look good in red so the tunic draws my eye however I’m not a fan of the grommets.

  21. I’d wear the slacks and the red and black sweater, however the shaker knit with the embellishments appears to heavy for my frame. I have visions of walking around with one hand constantly pulling down the back.

  22. Slacks on both look great, I’d have to check length since I’m tall.
Can’t figure out the red outfit but it’s a little too busy for me. The embellished sweater is an absolute no go for me. I rarely if ever wear v necklines, turtlenecks are my go to winter wear, and the embroidery is a little too much for my style. It might go well with silky, shiny satin palazzo pants and wide belt in fact I think I’d really like that look.

  23. The cream sweater is dreadful. It looks cheap and the embellishments are awful. The red one is better but a no because the sweater would be wearing me, too much contrast and the neck looks like an infinity scarf which I am not a fan.

  24. I like the embellished sweater, but not for me as I am well endowed. A small busted woman would look great. I’d also style it with a subtle gray & cream plaid pant, a caramel pant for Thanksgiving or green or red velvet pants for Christmas.
I love everything about the red and black tunic! I can’t normally wear red close to my face, but think maybe it would work with the black neckline.

  25. I wouldn’t wear the embellished sweater because the color would not be flattering to me. As styled on the mannequin, it does look a bit misshapen. I would need to see it in person & might consider it in another color, if the beading wasn’t as heavy as it looks.

  26. This is one of the very rare times that I do not like either outfit. The embellishment on the cream sweater is way too much. I think it’s overpowering and distracting. The sweater is loose and a heavy knit and the large embellishment just weights it down in my opinion. I would prefer the red and black tunic to be all the red print and without the extra bulky cowl neck. A cowl neck is OK, but this one seems extra bulky. The black pants are fine.

  27. No to the beige sweater-if it makes a mannequin look chunky I can only envision what it would do to me! And I really can’t figure out the red outfit. So no to it too. In a solid red, I’d wear it but not with a cowl neck. That emphasizes the top- something which on me needs no emphasis!

  28. Red and black combos are a favorite for me and I’m definitely drawn to that one. I probably wouldn’t try on the chunky ivory sweater – the ‘beading’ looks heavy and the sleeve length seems a bit off on the mannequin in this photo.

  29. The sweater does not appeal to me … in my opinion there is just much embellishment which be overwhelming for my stature. However, the color is one of my favorites so in that respect I do like it.

The pants look very nice. I like the classic style.

  30. The beige sweater has too much embellishment going on for me. I would be overwhelmed! The bottom seems misshapen., and not for me. But…now I’m thinking that maybe in a more vivid color I might rethink my “no.” Love red and black so the 2nd sweater is a definite YES! I like both pairs of slacks.

  31. Hi Pam. I wonder if you would ever consider revealing where the shots for these posts are taken. I often see pieces that interest me, but can’t figure out where to find them. Just a thought.

  32. Sometimes I do, Melissa. This particular grouping was at Dillards. I was asked about the one last week and it was at Stein Mart. Always ask if you do not see it and I am happy to share if someone really wants to know. I try my best to put the garments in my slideshow if I can find them online. Thanks so much

  33. Wow! The sweater is eye-catching! I do like it actually, but probably it would not do a thing for me (med ash blonde, and 10 lbs ..okay 15 lbs overweight lol). I’m trying to contain my likes & wants, and concentrate on need and actually flattering garments! I’ll admire this pretty sweater from afar.?
