Style Tips for Warmer Winter Climates

Pamela Lutrell in linen for warmer winters

When Mr. B and I ventured to downtown San Antonio last week, it ended up to be a warmer, mid-70s, kind of December day.  We do not really know from one weekend to the next weather it will be cold, warm, muggy or drizzly here in South Texas.  We I leave to go somewhere within the city, I must be prepared.

You can see the sun was brightly shining down upon us, but this was at noon.  When we went that morning, it was cold and the restaurants had heaters going by the outdoor tables.  I chose to wear a linen jacket with the sleeves down and this Michael Kors sweater scarf, but by the time noon arrived, the tabs on the jacket came out to pull up the sleeves, and the scarf eventually was tucked into a shopping bag I was carrying from one of my purchases.  It just got hotter and hotter through the afternoon, but once the sun went down the temperature dropped pretty quickly.  I would recommend linen in a warmer winter climate and layers which can be adjusted as the temps go higher in the day.  I am glad there are linens which come in fall and winter colors.

Pamela Lutrell visits Paris Hatters

Layers get me through a downtown visit like this one where we stopped by the famous Paris Hatters to look at hats. You can tell with that sun on my face above that I really need a hat.  This is Alex and she does embroidery on the hats that make them personal and unique where special order hats is just one of the top ways it is done here.   One of my style goals this year is to find a perfect hat for me!  I will be returning here when I do not have father and son who were ready to move on!  Just go to the Paris Hatters Website here and see their impressive list of clients…I may not be an Eric Clapton or Paul McCartney, but I would like to find the perfect hat and make the customer list!

Everyone and every horse are dawned in their finest in downtown SA so I am happy to keep it simple in a layered casual look with good, comfortable walking shoes and allow everyone else to be star!

What are your favorite winter garments to wear when the climate is warm?   Please share…I know there are some of you Texas and Florida ladies out there! I have some fun pieces in today’s slideshow today…this is a great time to purchase linen garments you can wear all year long!

KEEP SMILING!!

  1. Nice look here Pam! Love your jacket and that arm candy! Such a pleasure to have mild sunny winter days! ?

  2. Believe it or not, a northern Ohio winter can be quite varied. Last week it was in the sixties! My classroom at school has fitful heating, ranging from 60-80, so I know about layering. I like very thin (practically tee shirt thin), simple merino wool sweaters (JJill has them on sale right now for about $30, and the usual stores have them). They drape beautifully and breathe. I top with a denim jacket (cotton, so it also breathes) and a thicker scarf, or a larger silk one I can double wrap. The scarf often comes off as the day wears on, and I can also remove the jacket and push up the sleeves of the sweater.

  3. So sorry, Seana…we actually need the rain, wish I could trade it out for you. It is a gorgeous day here in San Antonio…but we have been dry for awhile. Hope it improves for you.

  4. That’s it, I’m moving to San Antonio (☺) as like Seana we are experiencing an ice storm. (Not too cold but raining ice pellets causing havoc in many areas as treacherous driving or walking, causing hydro blackouts etc.) Back to the subject at hand; great tips Pam for even us Cdn. snow-birds who do travel south for the Winter months. -Brenda-
Re: Paris Hatters; recall seeing them featured on American Pickers.
WISHING YOU and YOUR FAMILY A HEALTHY, HAPPY and PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!

  5. Come on Down, Brenda! We could have some shopping fun! Wishing you the same! Thank you for being here..

  6. Your casual yet stylish outfit is smashing. Love the linen jacket!! What brand is it and where did you get it??

  7. I live in the “Inland Empire” of SoCal. Riverside is about 60 miles southeast of LA and you can be at the beach or at a snow resort in an hour. The last couple of months have been cooler than usual and in the last two weeks we’ve had a lot (for us!) of rain On sunny days the temps vary widely and you have to have a light jacket or sweater handy. It’s only supposed to be 56 today and it’s cloudy so I’ll have to wear something heavier! Happy New Year!

  8. You got it, Nyla! I am about as “real woman”as it gets and I have been blogging for 10 years. I hope you will keep coming back!

  9. Hi Pam, I’m leaving your lovely city today after a long weekend here. We’ve enjoyed our visit so much, but now back to reality home in Detroit. I especially loved the beautiful Christmas lights along the River Walk. Your outfit looks perfect for the warm days we’ve seen here. Happy New Year!

  10. Hi Karen, May you have a safe flight back. I am so glad you enjoyed your time here and that we had beautiful weather for you! Thanks for the comment and may you celebrate a very happy new year!

  11. I share your desire for a hat! I have a small head and hats end up down around my ears and eyes.
Good luck finding your perfect hat.
Living in a warmer climate initially was a challenge for me as I grew up in the north. It took me awhile, but I finally am comfortable on those warmer winter months wearing most everything but pure white.

  12. We have been having an up & down weather pattern here in Indiana this year. It was 65 degrees on Christmas Day. Yesterday it was 62 degrees & raining. Today it is 36 degrees with a wind chill in the lower 20’s. I need to be prepared for anything, so layering is definitely a must here. I have several light weight cardigans that I layer with sleeveless or short sleeved tees. Long sleeved blouses can be layered the same way or with the sleeves rolled up. My denim jacket gets a lot of action.
