What Should I Wear? To a Museum and Lunch with Friends

Pamela Lutrell with What Should I Wear

One of my favorite things to do with friends is to stop in to one of our many amazing museums in San Antonio, catch the latest collection, and get lunch (preferably at or near the museum).  This is why I chose this topic today for What Should I Wear?

Of course, when attending an art museum, I love to add a touch of creativity, artistic flair or even whimsy to what I am wearing.  Mostly because color and creativity abound at the museums.

Over 50 Feeling 40 on creative style

The great thing about a huge closet cleaning is to find pieces which were forgotten in the clutter.  I love this cardigan I got a few years back at Marshalls…it is a different design from other cardigans I own.  The red pants are previous Soft Surroundings colored Metro Leggings (these have been discontinued) but I really like the pant.  My touch of creativity comes from an Anthropologie scarf and a Victoria Bosco handbag that I have owned for years.  Love the bag, but I do not believe she is selling product any longer. There is just something about the striped top when I want to look artistic/Parisian…it is a classic.  This is an older striped top from The Loft, but Chico’s has a great one right now, designed to flatter,  that I have here…just had to share it.  The seam placements on this top will make your appear smaller!

When I was in Chicago, we ate at the Art Institute of Chicago and any time I can eat at a museum or shop in a museum store…count me in!  I love the ambience and the unique offerings.  San Antonio has one where you can eat by the famous Riverwalk.

Over 50 Feeling 40 Recommends the FitBit

To do a lot of walking and maintain a cool, youthful vibe, I chose my Rockport Black Leather Sneakers.  I know I wear them often…they are a favorite.  Now, I want to confess after singing the virtues of my FitBit in 2018, I did not use it for half of 2019.  That was a mistake and I have it back on my wrist again. Walking the museum is a good way to get in the steps.  The main reason I need it is that I will tend to sit for hours working at a computer and I need it to nag me to get up and move around.  So “the nag” is back and I am glad to have it.  It is also a great way to monitor heart rate.

Over 50 Feeling 40 with shoe shopping painting

One of my favorite paintings ever is in Chicago of these women shopping for shoes!  How fun is this?  Just a reminder that throughout time, ladies have enjoyed dressing up, shopping, lunching….so many activities…together!

I also wore this same outfit recently switching the scarf for a faux leather necklace offered by Sylca Designs.  They have so many fun necklaces!  This one looks so good with the black leather sneakers.

This topic inspired me to select Elaine with her five style adjectives to feature in the slideshow today.  Elaine wants to communicate that she is classy, casual, comfortable, confident and creative with her style.  So, I have made selections with Elaine and women like her in mind…

KEEP SMILING, EVERYONE!!

  1. Terrific outfit and I, too, love that you used what you already have. I am a longtime reader. Long overdue for me to let you know you always inspire me with your completely positive and upbeat spirit. I look forward to your writings. Thank you!

  2. I normally don’t wear horizontal stripes but the Chico’s top looks like a great choice!

  3. What a wonderful outing planned with friends – and you look comfortable and confident! That scarf and bag add a creative vibe ( and a touch of sass! ). Loved the slideshow – lots of great suggestions…. I may have to order those Cheetah print slip on sneakers! And I love when you include photos of San Antonio – one day, I will get there!

  4. Pam I love your slide show for replacing pieces in my wardrobe and especially when you feature creative clothing from Dillard’s. However, you are my best guru when you wear an outfit I can’t buy. You force me to be creative, go back to my closet and creat a similar look. Thank you.

  5. Nice post today, and I like seeing the scarf tied up close to the neck – which seems to further the Parisian vibe. Fun! I have an outing with two of my friends coming up the 18th of this month: about an hour and a half worth of driving north (to the next bigger city), enjoying lunch out, and then a 2 p.m. performance at the symphony hall of “An American in Paris” – the musical. Could you suggest something that would wear well in the car and yet be stylish enough for our afternoon? Also, it is likely to be cool and rainy. Oregon, after all. ? Thanks!!

  6. Such a great handbag! That seems to be just the thing for visiting a museum, when you want to add a piece that is creative. I am going out for lunch next week with a new friend (which is a little stressful for me, being such an introvert!), and I like the casual, yet polished look you are wearing here. I enjoy these posts because they give me some good ideas, even if the activities aren’t exactly the same. I’m already longing for the days when I can go out with just a blazer or a cardigan. We’re still months away from that!

  7. Thanks for the slideshow, Pam! My favourite pieces are the plaid shirt, the polka dot blouse (though I’ve seldom worn polka dots), and the cheetah print sneakers. Naturalizer is one of my favourite brands.

You do make San Antonio look inviting. Especially right now as we are moving into an extremely cold stretch!

  8. Love the spark of yellow in your outfit – so fun! The slide show has lots of black and white, a combo I have been building into my wardrobe. I find it easy then to put pieces together as well as accessorize to keep it fresh. Love your statement necklaces!

  9. I love your striped shirt, black sweater and red pants! The accessories pull it all together. I love the Chico’s shirt, too. That yellow neck ribbing looks very springy. I may have to put that on my wish list.
