Would You Wear It with Pam and Jennifer

Pamela Lutrell asks women if they would wear this

Happy first Saturday in 2020! It is time to take a break from our 2020 Style Goals and present our regular feature, Would You Wear It with me and my friend, Jennifer.  We find fashion displays around our two different communities that we believe are interesting and make us wonder what you would think.  All you have to do is tell us Would you or Would You not wear what we are showing you and explain why in a constructive manner.  This means that you give you opinion in an effort to help other women who either are or are not considering this style.  Some like to comment on the display and how it is put together…does it motivate you to try on the garments or want to spend money on them.

Pamela Lutrell finds displays for women to comment on

After you comment on my display, please head over to A WELL STYLED LIFE and comment on Jennifer’s mannequin.  Then I hope you will return for our slide show below…it is a very different approach now.

But, first, look at my display above and tell us, ladies………

WOULD YOU WEAR IT???

Pamela Lutrell discusses style goals for 2020

Last Tuesday,  I began a series called 2020 Style Goals with the desire to encourage you to go into this new year with a plan to look your very best.  You can see the posts here

Goal #1, Know Who You Are

Goal #2, 5 Must Ask Questions for Closet Purging

Goal #3, Step Out in the Colors of the Year

Goal #4, Experiment with Accessories

Women have been sending me their style messages all week so that I can set up a slideshow with them and others in mind.  Today is the third featuring Mary.  She wants to look intelligent, fashion savvy, approachable, artistic, and confident.  The slideshow below is for Mary and women like her.  Please keep in mind that I have not seen any of these readers.  So I am just giving ideas of how to communicate these messages without knowing your body type or age or lifestyle.  This exercise is to further get you thinking about what your selections communicate.  There are two slideshows for Mary of fashion forward artistic pieces.

I received an email from Thérèse, whose adjectives were featured yesterday.  She wrote, “Good job!  What I like best about your slideshow with me in mind is that it has some dresses.  I love skirts and dresses.  We recently went to a rather large brunch and I was the only lady there in a skirt.”  Also, she still wears heels despite being over 70!  You go girl!

KEEP SMILING, EVERYONE!

  1. I wouldn’t be able to wear these outfits because black is not a good color for me near my face. The blouse with the bow is a bit too fussy for my taste. I do like the black & white sweater but would see if it came in another color.

  2. My question is this: is this navy or black? I love white and navy blue for resort wear, but black does wash me out unless I pump up my makeup. (Don’t usually wear very much).
I’d try on all of these outfits, but most likely purchase if it’s a navy blue, not black.
    (Love the white pants!)

  3. this one is a confidence issue….i like all the pieces, but they are not for me…when i try to pair just black and white, i feel like i should be taking drink orders…..however, i do see other women carrying it off well….

  4. I like black and white but not as shown here. I would wear the striped sweater with dark, straight navy jeans. Nothing else appeals to me. I don’t wear white dress pants, and those would not wear well in Chicago winters. The tie blouse is a no.

  5. I do like all the outfits. I wear mostly black, so the coat would be black for me. I also don’t wear white pants a lot because within 5 minutes they are stained or dirty, kids and dogs! Good choices this week!

  6. I would not wear the outfit in the center. The pants look waaaaay too sheer—gotta be careful with white pants! I’m not crazy about the bow on the blouse. I do like the outfit to the right, minus the jacket/coat.

  7. It seems to me this display a something for everyone. Black and White mix-match.
I have seen pants with pleats on the front like the white ones, but haven’t tried any on. My feeling is that won’t be a good look for me. It was OK in the 80s when I was 20 pounds lighter, not sure if I want to find out how they’d look today!
The blouse with the bow-tie would be worth trying on. White around my face is flattering to me, if the sleeves and cuffs aren’t too voluminous and the bow able to be not right at my double chin that could be a useful piece for layering.
I also like the manequins, it’s a retailer making an effort to not exclude customers.

  8. Love black and white…so crisp! I do like the ruffle peeking out of the sleeve but not crazy about the tie/bow. Change the pants to black and I’d wear it (in spite of the 1980’s tie blouse). The tops on either side of the center outfit are pretty.

  9. Black and white together draw me in every time! I would take a good look at this display for that reason. I like the striped top with the black pants shown on the right as you face the display. I think I’d pass on the long jacket, but only because the stripe on the bottom disturbs the flow. I like the wide-leg pants in the middle, but would pass on the top because to me, the contrast with the white tie is too jarring. I can see that with a deeper color, like wine, for the tie, but clearly they were featuring black and white. The sweater with black pants on the left would be a definite “yes” for me. I like the slideshow! You are doing such a great job interpreting these adjectives, and it’s fun seeing the words others choose to define their style! I like to see the skirts and dresses too. I’m still wearing a lot of them!

  10. I love the outfit on the right and would wear it in a heartbeat. The stripe on the sweater is fun and bold, and the coat is different and interesting. Love the whole look.

I have never been a fan of the pussy bow, so I would not wear that.

  11. Please tell me that pleated pants are not coming back. I personally feel that pleats add weight and who wants that? I love the combination of black and white, but I save it for summer clothing. White is so impractical during cold Indiana winters. This particular display would be one I would ignore at this time of year.

  12. I really like the striped turtleneck sweater and the black sweater with tie collar. I would probably wear them with a black pencil skirt or black trousers. Very classic look. Red lipstick would be a must!

  13. All are very classy looks and I would certainly try them. I think they’d make any woman look confident and put together besides being very valuable as mix/match pieces in the closet.

  14. Black and white is my favourite combination. I would definitely wear the striped sweater and the wide leg black pants. I would pass on the white pants at this time of year but they would work in the summer. I like the bow tie too but not sure it would suit me.

  15. Very classic look! Picking it apart probably the only thing I would wear would be the pants. I like the striped sweater and used to own one that was similar but I don’t wear turtlenecks any longer nor do I wear a bow tie tied so high. A white coat is impractical unless it’s machine washable!

  16. I love black and white but flowy, wide white pants would not flatter me. Also, a style like that would need to almost touch the floor, and they would be filthy in a nanosecond. I could take various parts of these outfits, minus the pants, and enjoy wearing them.

  17. The outfits are attractive but not for me. The pleated pants would be a no at my age and accentuate my stomach. The top with the bow is too fussy for my taste. I love the outfit on the right but not for me. Black and white is too jarring for my coloring, so both outfits would be a no.

  18. Even though not practical to be wearing in my climate right now (as street wear) and with the exception of the blouse; a yes to all the pieces with possible tweaking of the pant lengths as would prefer them longer particularly the wide leg ones. (On the average I wear a size 4 so most are often too short unless purchased in tall.) As for the blouse, regardless that it is a ‘tie’ I’d rather have it with a lower V-cut neckline plus to wear it tucked into white pants, I’d want to ensure the latter is opaque. Also as favour anything that is color-blocked do like the turtle neck sweater and the coat, not to mention I do feel that the combo of black ‘n white makes for a very chic wardrobe when wanting to easily mix ‘n match. -Brenda-

  19. I wouldn’t wear either outfit as shown. I am not drawn to wide-legged pants. The wider silhouette doesn’t seem flattering to me. The bow is fussy and I don’t like anything that fits close to my neck. I think the slim sleeves with the bow are ab odd combo. The sweater is nice looking but I don’t wear turtlenecks and I don’t like how horizontal stripes look on my torso. I’d wear the black pants and I like the jacket!

  20. I like all the pieces but would add a touch of color somewhere to soften the heavy contrast near my face. Black and white are perennial favorites if mine. Classic, always stylish and easy to wear.

  21. I am a big fan of black and white, but neither of these outfits as shown appeal to me. However, I do like the individual pieces!!!

I like the white pants on the left. They are a classic style and could be worn year round. However, I don’t care for the white bow/scarf on the black blouse. It’s a bit too harsh for my taste.

The white jacket on the right is beautiful … and again very classic which appeals to me. Not a fan of the patterned turtleneck but a solid black turtleneck might work for me.

  22. The only piece I would wear from the center outfit is the tee. I would wear it under a jacket or cardigan not over a blouse as shown. It looks thin, & over the blouse, it seems to bunch up. The blouse with the bow is a little too frou-frou for my taste, & the wide leg pants are just not my style. I wore pants like that back in the 70s & am not interested in revisiting that time in my life. I would definitely wear the outfit on the right. The coat/jacket & the sweater are simple but have interesting aspects, & black pants are a wardrobe staple. I would likely add a touch of color via accessories, maybe red, bright blue or hot pink.

  23. A resounding yes! This is a style I’ve worn all my life. It seems the stylist even took time to properly dress the mannequins which makes such a difference.
    Thumbs up

  24. As a winter, black has always been a good option for me. But as so many have commented, too much of it, particularly with large blocks of contrasting white, no longer serves me well. These days, I feel better with more colour and less stark contrast. When I started replacing black coats and sweaters and cardigans, and black tights and shoes and skirts with rich jewel tones, I became more visible. The first day I wore my new deep turquoise coat, two people aspproached me for directions on the way to work and one on the way home! Even my husband couldn’t find me in a shop when I was dressed in black. He would always be phoning me when I was standing a few paces away! People smile at me more now and that makes my day. These days, if I wear a predominantly black dress or skirt, I tend to do so at night, and wear fun sparkly jewellery and coloured accessories with it. During the day. I tend to go for navy or burgundy or charcoal with rich complimentary colours. If I wear a garment with black in it. I feel much more alive if it also has some colour (a subtle pattern of deep purple or silvery violet grey). I feel as bad in too much colour as too little and steer clear of most warm colours (spring and autumn colours do me no favours) but for me, embracing colour has had an incredibly positive effect on my well being.
