Grab coffee for news with Pamela Lutrell

Hello, friends, and welcome to Today’s News for Women over 50!  I am constantly reading and curating news headlines just for us, the amazing, strong, women over 50.  I only ask that if you read something here that makes you want to change up your personal health, then please speak with your doctor before make major changes.  That is the prudent thing to do.  We have some good reads today (especially for those not into the big football game), so let’s get started.

Pamela Lutrell finds beauty tips for women over 50

I thought we would begin with an interesting article about beauty for 2020 that recently ran in Harper’s Bazaar in the UK.  Within this article, they write that a large percentage of women our age don’t feel “seen.”   Read 13 Beauty Tips that Will Dominate 2020 and let us know what you think.

Pamela Lutrell on plastic surgery and young ladies

I have mentioned before that I know an alarming amount of young women in their 20s and 30s participating in botox and plastic surgery.  Read SELFIES, and SELF CARE ARE LEADING MILLENNIALS TO GET MORE COSMETIC PROCEDURES. It is important that we stay informed and know how to counsel the young women we know.

Pamela Lutrell with travel warning from the CDC

I am certain that this audience is filled with constant travelers and you may be planning or preparing for trips now.  Please stay informed about the Corona Virus and how it is spreading.  The cave here is meant to represent bats because that is where some medical researchers believe it originates (not specially in caves, but with bats)  Here is the latest on the corona virus from the CDC.

Pamela Lutrell shares news on exercise

I heard from a few of you on last Sunday’s post that you are beginners when it comes to exercise.  So, another article from Harper’s Bazaar caught my attention.  You might enjoy  EXERCISE FOR BEGINNERS.  (Don’t let the attractive girl in the tights on the article page discourage you!)

Pamela Lutrell reports that garlic is health for the liver

I liked this food article because I already do several of these things…finally!  Read about FOODS THAT CLEANSE THE LIVER.

Pamela Lutrell on Today's News for women over 50

Finally, I saw this article and it hit home because for years as a teen, I hid my emotions while still at home with parents.  I believed the consequences went to college with me and later may have affected my health.  See what you think when reading SUPPRESSING YOUR EMOTIONS CAN BE INCREDIBLY BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH.

As always, please comment on any or all of the articles.  Remember to enter to win a $35 Gift card from SHEEC socks. It’s so easy to enter to win this great no-show sock to wear with flats!

Now, I am not going to suppress my own emotions and joy at the slide show below.  Because the news today is random…the slideshow is random.   Please enjoy, thank you for being here and as always………………………

KEEP SMILING!!

  1. Thank you for digging out interesting subjects for all of us to peruse. Helen Mirren looks fabulous! My haircut is similar to hers but that’s about it! ha! Think I will bypass the new eye makeup trend. Can you imagine what all that sparkly stuff would do to your eyes and the surrounding skin? I pinned the article on foods good for the liver. Actually that is one area where I am on trend. Wishing you a splendid week!

  2. Please note that the CDC article says “many animals” and then list camels and bats. The WHO has been digging and they have suggested that this time it may possibly be snakes from the live animal food markets. Basically nobody the heck knows yet and we may never know the exact source. There was a “movement” started a couple of years ago to regulate the “live animal” markets…..I hope that this gains momentum so that the animals are treated well (even if they are destined to become food for humans) and the humans clean things up to protect our collective health. In the mean time do all the things your Mother taught you….wash your hands, keep food at safe temperatures, keep your food utensils clean, don’t wear your outside shoes in the house….

  3. Pamela, may I ask a favor: because your blog is primarily posted for women over 50 plus; I’d like to see you use clothing & fashion photos that illustrate the same age group(s). It’s a statement to the media, as well as to us, that we exist and are not invisible…!

One of my favorite posts you did recently were photos of real life women (not models or ads) that showed beautifully dressed/groomed women; that was truly enjoyable & useful!

    Thank you!

  4. I do this when possible, Marlene. However, sometimes it is not possible. I am here to encourage you to look your confident best and I may want to show you garments perfect for you, but not modeled by someone our age. I agree with you heart and intention and will keep it in mind when possible. Most brands use younger women however. I love showing street style and what real women wear and will do when possible.

  5. Maybe it’s really a problem, but I don’t really understand women 50 and older thinking they are ‘not seen’ or even ‘invisible’. I have never felt that way, so maybe it’s a real problem and I just haven’t experienced it. That seems very sad to me, women feeling that way just because of their number of years. Maybe “being seen” isn’t what is really important anyway. Maybe this refers to the bigger picture, such as the fashion industry, but I think even retailers are doing a better job recognizing the significant portion of the population that is over 50. Moving along in life teaches me that’s it’s truly not ‘all about me’ and feel that what we do with regard to others is much more important than being seen. Our culture seems to be going in an odd direction, but as I get older I do want to take care of myself to live my best life, including eating well and exercising and minding my mental health. It could be that the strange focus on social media has caused people to become more narcissistic. It certainly seems that way. For me it really doesn’t matter if I’m not seen. Maybe I interpreted this the wrong way!

  6. Love some of the flowery handbags!
I’ve never felt invisible either but from an advertising perspective no one over fifty is that important. So we don’t count as consumers although we control, boomers that is, more money than any other generation. Seems crazy to me & at times it makes very aggravated. However, I’m trying not to sweat the small stuff & continue living my life knowing I contribute & the heck with Madison Ave.
