OMRON HeartGuide: A wearable blood pressure monitor and my best friend for 90 days

Pamela Lutrell for Omron Healthcare

This is a sponsored post.  I have exciting news for those of us concerned about Heart Health specifically our blood pressure and it is called HeartGuide. I first worked on behalf of OMRON four years ago and each time I have joined them to bring you a new product, it has been personally life changing for me.  The new HeartGuide is entering my life at a critical moment and I will be monitoring my blood pressure with it over the next 90 days and reporting back to you.

HeartGuide on Over 50 Feeling 40

We are talking about women and their hearts today because we are leaving American Heart Month and entering Women’s History Month.  We all want to be around to make our own history with our families and grandchildren…and who knows, maybe even on a larger scale.  Yet, the statistics show that 103 million adults in the United States have high blood pressure which can lead to heart attacks or strokes.

OMRON EVOLVE on Over 50 Feeling 40

In the last OMRON program, I confessed to being one who goes up and down with my blood pressure.  My doctor has come very close at times to placing me on medications, but so far, I am not on one.  I also learned from monitoring my blood pressure at home that I react to stress with high counts.  You can read the STRESS POST here.

Over 50 Feeling uses OMRON EVOLV

By monitoring my blood pressure at home with the OMRON Evolv, I learned so much.  Research does support that regularly monitoring your blood pressure at home can reduce risks of a cardiac event and provide that all important time needed before something happens.  However, I am so excited about HeartAdvisor and HeartGuide.  I have once again entered a time of great stress triggered from employment so this comes at a very critical moment for me.

The reason is… I have learned the signs and I do not like what I am seeing.   I have learned to read my own body and know when my blood pressure may be rising and the ability to now be able to watch it throughout the day and not just one moment of the day, I believe is very important for someone like me that goes up and down.   I can now see the whole package and be able to understand how exercise, sleep, eating, stressful moments…all of it…affects my blood pressure.

Pamela Lutrell will use HeartGuide for 90 days

This latest OMRON innovation is HeartGuide, the first wearable blood pressure monitor. It’s made in the convenient form of a wristwatch. OMRON created this breakthrough technology for those who want to keep close watch on their blood pressure anytime, anywhere and take action for their heart health. OMRON filed nearly 100 new patents to create HeartGuide. It’s a breakthrough device that uses oscillometric technology – an inflatable cuff similar to what is used in the doctor’s office – to provide FDA-cleared medical accuracy via wrist measurement.

Some of the pumps and valves in HeartGuide are as small as a grain of rice. The HeartGuide-exclusive mobile app, HeartAdvisor, is an insights-driven digital health service designed to help users better understand their condition, build a more productive dialogue with their doctor, and gain access to real-time heart health coaching to act on their numbers.

With HeartAdvisor, HeartGuide was selected as one of TIME’s Best Inventions and Popular Science’s 100 Greatest Innovations of 2019.

I have agreed to wear this for 90 days and log what I learn.  Why 90 days?  Again, research supports that in order to form habits and change a lifestyle, it takes 90 days. I will be reporting back to you occasionally with results.  It is so important for so many of us to pay attention.  Because we do matter!

I have enjoyed working with OMRON because their mission is to stop heart attacks and strokes …that’s right…they want to bring that number to zero!

Pamela Lutrell reminds I Matter

I hope you will join with me as I report my 90- day journey to learn more about my blood pressure.  I will be honest with you, no matter what I learn, because I do not want to be a statistic.

If you’re newly diagnosed with high blood pressure, it’s important to take immediate action to begin treatment. If you’ve been hypertensive for some time and have not yet begun treatment, it’s urgent to take immediate action for your heart health. The CDC states that 80% of cardiac events are preventable, and studies show that regular self-monitoring can reduce stroke risk by up to 20% and can cut the risk of coronary artery disease by 10%.

  1. I would like to wear something like this as a monitoring/ prevention device..
I currently do not have high blood pressure, but a family history.
    Thank you in advance!!

  2. You are welcome! I will be writing an occasional update during the 90 day event.

  3. That would be a great product for me. My blood pressure raises every time I am in the doctor’s office. I have to take my blood pressures at home to prove that under normal circumstances my readings are fine. I have been on blood pressure medicine for around 20 years. Will be looking forward to your follow-up report.

  4. Thanks for sharing that you are going to be testing this device. My folks take daily b.p. readings using an electronic cuff, which is fairly easy but my mother finds it painful, so I will be happy to consider this watch device if you like it.
I hope the stressors you are experiencing find a solution. Wishing you the best of health always!

  5. Sometimes, the price is worth it. I will be writing what I discover. Thanks Anne

  6. Hi Sue…that is actually called WHITE COAT SYNDROME! I have it too! I guess during my 90 days I need to go by the doctor and see what the difference is!

  7. I will give details about the comfort of wearing it, Connie. Thanks for mentioning your mom.

  8. I find the watch interesting. My pharmacist recommends the traditional method with the cuff and not the wearable type. Does the product have sensors underneath like a Fitbit?

  9. Hi Joanne, I think for “how it does what it does” I am going to refer you to the links in the post. I think you will get better information on their website since I am so early in the process! Thanks!

  10. I don’t have high blood pressure but I’m interested in this device and your journey with it.

  11. This is a great way of keeping your health signs in check. I am going to get this one for my mom. She has had issues in the past and this way I’d at least be aware of all the warning signs.
