Spring Fashion Over 50: classic soft neutrals speak volumes

Pamela Lutrell transitions to spring 2020 in neutrals

We already know that Spring 2020 fashions for women over 50 will include neutrals and the soft neutrals I have seen are really beautiful.  Now, except for the handbag (more about it later) this whole outfit has been in my wardrobe for a while, but the soft taupe-like browns will be big this spring.  I think the word neutral in fashion is a funny one.  Oh, I know that they are the colors that go with literally anything, but the word neutral has one meaning that is “having no strong markings or positive characteristics or features.”  I happen to think when it comes to wearing neutrals that the message they send is one of STRENGTH and POSITIVITY!  That is why wearing neutrals often, especially to work, is a big part of my personal style story.

However, wearing neutral styles does not mean boring……………au contraire.

Back to Dillards

Pamela Lutrell in Niche Top at Dillards 2020

Isn’t this top cute?  It is by our local fashion line, Niche, and I found it at Dillards in the Shops of La Cantera.  I should have showed it to you with the scarf…I just loved it with a scarf and if I had brought it home with me, I would wear it with slim leg pants.  Niche is a colorful clothing line (after all, they live in San Antonio, one of the most colorful cities), but the Spring 2020 collection has beautiful soft neutrals in the designs.

There is one more line I want to share with you and they are called Nic & Zoe (named after the designer’s children).  They formally were offered at Nordstrom, but now are with Dillards.  I love the top I am wearing below, but this collection does run small…so I really needed a tad bit more room in this X- Large, but I love the neutral artistic design of the top.

NOW, ABOUT THAT PURSE

Pamela Lutrell reviews Gunas handbag

This gorgeous bag is from the hot new line of vegan leather handbags by Gunas New York.

They asked if they could send a bag my way to share with you and I am so glad I did, because the bag is beautiful.  They have all types and sizes on their website, and the quality of the vegan leather is lovely and very soft, not stiff at all.  This bag is called Naomi.

More news yesterday from Gunas is that the handbags will now be sold at Macy’s in Herald Square and soon to be sold on Macy’s.com.  Watch for them there…I just do not know exactly when that will be.

How do the neutral lovers in our audience of readers wear them best for warmer weather?  Do you change up anything?  Do you like the soft taupe version of brown for springtime?  Please share and then enjoy our slideshow today. I curated styled with the softer neutrals in mind!

Oscar Wilde is quoted as saying, “A flower blossoms for its own joy.”  Remember that as the spring flowers begin to bloom and as always…………….

KEEP SMILING!

Disclaimer:  I was gifted the bag, but the words are my own.

  1. I’m glad you showed these beautiful tops and call them neutrals, because the neutrals I’ve been seeing are muddy and pale. I have passed them right by. But you have shown here that it doesn’t have to be that way, so this is very helpful. These tops really are beautiful!

  2. I really like the bag, the colour is one of my favorites and actually got a tote style in a bit more of a periwinkle recently. As for neutrals, mine are in the blue and raspberry range. I find most of my colours go with those and make me very happy. As for that print blouse, I think it looks great on you and does not look too small. Of course it is all in the feel. Spring may be a bit of a wait for us in Ontario Canada, but I am dreaming just the same.

  3. You are now speaking my language. The colors yesterday were beautiful, but too bold for me. I am more of an introvert, so neutral clothing seems to rule my closet. I am a warm, so taupes, creams, peach and mint are colors I will gravitate towards this Spring. The outfits you shared today are lovely. And that bag…oh my I love the bag.

  4. I’m glad you are showing Nic and Zoe. It’s one of my favorite brands. Usually their pants wash well and don’t wrinkle. They are great for travel. I love the neutrals…just my style with a great accessory.

  5. I have always loved the natural linen color for summer especially with white. Like a soft chambray, linen has always been one of my best colors. You are very inspiring! Beautiful tops!

  6. Love most if these tops and you look fabulous. The only one I don’t care for us the all white shirt/top. Can’t really explain why just don’t care for it.
Enjoying your blog and feel like I’m learning a lot!

  7. I love the black and white geometric top and the Nic and Zoe top on you! I’ll be checking out the Nic and Zoe and that gorgeous blue bag. Thanks for bringing a bit of Spring to today’s rainy weather.

  8. I love white and black together…that rose patterned top is lovely! This year I’ll be looking for more navy, always hard to find for me, Taupe shades are not flattering for me, but cream tones are,…and I love neutrals because I can wear colourful jewellery pieces to make a statement!

  9. I agree on most of the muddy ones…not attractive. I was glad to discover these and now I am more excited! Thanks Karen!

  10. You look terrific, as usual! I especially like the taupe pants, and would wear those with the fun white blouse you showed. That’s my idea of a nice, neutral palette for pretty much any season . . . then zip it up for spring and summer with a pretty and colorful scarf and handbag, or cozy it up for fall and winter by adding a jacket and plaid scarf. I’d also wear that blouse with my navy column skirt (volume over fitted) to make a nice impression. Thanks for all the great pics.

  11. It just felt a little snug in the arms. I love love the print but do not think I would be comfortable. Thanks Diane.

  12. I am very impressed with the brand! I did get a topper that was on sale that I am wearing on Sunday here! Thanks Jane!

  13. So happy to have you drop by, Linda. I also like the natural linen color.

  14. We need to find sunshine in a lot of ways! I do love the print on that top!

  15. I love cream tones…I also prefer them in my house over white! Thanks Christine!

  16. Pam you look fabulous. I love the geometric top. You have completely changed my take on neutrals. Thank you!

  17. You look wonderful & svelte in the shorter length tops. It was so graphic in this post with you showing that longer white tunic. I never realized how much length matters!
The Niche outfit is just smashing in you.
I wear beige & cream in winter especially but really prefer bright colors for spring, I’m a cool blonde with blue eyes.

  18. Pamela: Time to stock up on full link neutral pants; prefer pullon, knit, wider waste band. I 66 years old, work in a business casual world, and wear a 14-16. I mostly shop at Dillards, Macy’s, Chico’s. Suggestions?

  19. Hi Nyla, On Thursday (March 5) I will do a slide show for you of pants. It will be at the bottom of the post…

  20. I love pure white with taupe or khaki, and love mixing textures, adding straw bags and large natural stone jewelry with it. I also love black and wear it with taupe and white, especially in the winter. I too am trying to find navy, as everyone who is an expert assures me it is more flattering than black as our hair and skin fade with age. And I do really like navy. But I can seldom find it in anything that is not too nautical or preppy. Why are manufacturers ignoring this color, especially for shoes and bags?
