Cargo Pants, classic dressing with an edge, & the new toilet paper

Pamela Lutrell features cargo pants and the new alternative to jeans

Cargo pants, classic dressing with and edge, and the new toliet paper are all in one post!  Trust me…. First off, cargo Pants are garments I really did not ever see me wearing, but at the coaxing last year of a determined JJill sales associate, I tried a pair on…and…so glad I did.  I really love these pants.  It is another case of “fit” making the difference.  With many cargo pants, the pockets are too large or stick out too much from the pant. Many cargo pants, not all, fit loose and look like they are ready for the camping site.  These are designed to lie flat and you do not even notice them from the front.  This is a nice alternative to jeans.

I wanted to wear these today, because last Saturday on Would You Wear It there were many comments on cargo pants.  I just desired to show that there are brands, JJill being one, where the pant really is a flattering fit.

Of course, these will go with just about anything, but for some reason I style them most often with white.  This is a good year-round casual pant for me.  I think I wore them to the office once when it was casual Friday, but now, I can wear them to my work-from-home office any time I would like.

THE NEW TOLIET PAPER

Yesterday morning on the news, one of the anchors commented that over Easter weekend, hair color became the new toilet paper Very difficult to find the majority of common colors on the shelves. I get it.  The real Pam has gray sprouting out everywhere.  My normal hair appointment would have been last Saturday.  Sigh! Before I left my last appointment, my hair stylist asked me to try this spray on color.  Glad I have it now!  (Joan Rivers is still my favorite, but this is a very good spray). I think the slideshow below this has my best root touch ups if you have gray hair.

The reason my hair looks so puffy is called South Texas humidity.  I get regular conditioning treatments and I am due one.  I wore a headband today, but it all just seems too much for me.  Now that I am growing my hair back out, I will need to come up with a new non-puffy plan.  OK, Melody (that is my stylist) if you just read that I am growing it out, don’t faint, we will talk later.

I also sat down over the weekend and cut off my nails.  I almost cried over that one.  Without my regular appointments with my nail technician, my toes are hurting, and my nails are…let’s just say…unattractive.    I miss these two ladies tons!  I also consider them friends, so I miss seeing them too.  OK, whining is over!

INSPIRING A READER’S STYLE

Maggie, please forgive me.  It has taken me awhile to get back to the list of reader’s who sent five adjectives they would like to communicate with their personal style. I take the adjectives and put together a slideshow of possible garments for them that would speak the messages they desire to speak with their clothing.  Without speaking a word, Maggie wants to tell the world she is colorful, classic, sophisticated, comfortable, and edgy.  She is the second one to put the adjective “edgy” with “classic and sophisticated.”  But, hey, I love a challenge.  So, Maggie this slideshow is for you and other women like you!  Enjoy.

Ladies, if you are in the group that likes to look edgy with your style, please share with us the type of garments you like to wear to achieve it.  Would love to hear your thoughts!

Thank you so much for being here… stay home…stay safe…stay hopeful  and…………

  1. Sometimes it is just the social aspect of going to hair, nail, and massage appointments that we miss so much. Of course the massage would certainly help with the back. I hope I can figure out a way to make my growing out curly hair look attractive as it grows. The face masks don’t help much. I have worn my nails very short for quite some time and change the colours for fun now. Just try a couple coats while relaxing in the evening.

  2. You are right about the cargo pants. Too many pockets, and big pockets don’t work. The Saturday pants with the pink tshirt were nice.
Love the straw bag. Can you link or give a brand?

  3. I’m glad you showed the pants. I have shied away from cargo pants due to the bulky look on the sides, but these appear to hug the legs so those could work. I’ll have to try some on when our J Jill opens back up again. They look very nice with the white shirt…is that linen? Very nice look and great tote bag! I did a root touch up recently and the shelves had plenty of hair color, so I’ll have to pay attention next time I’m at the store. I do my own color and more often than not, that is just a root touch up (then I pull that down through my hair in a streaky manner and it comes out looking multi-tonal). Anyway, scary to think people are now hoarding hair color. I will never understand the hoarding…Funny thing – I cut all my nails off too! I don’t go for manicures but was doing some purging around the house and broke a few, so they all got cut back. Didn’t file, just cut them off. I’m going to keep them shorter for the summer anyway. High hopes that we get back to our normal lives soon.

  4. I feel very grateful that I was not prematurely gray so I never felt a need to color my hair. But my nails!!! I feel your pain. Thanks for your honest posting during this stressful time. It is really appreciated 🙂

  5. Hair products ARE the new Tp! Trying to find my nexus brands for mature hair that’s color treated. Sold out everywhere online. It’s called Nexxus Keraphix. Will try tomorrow! Sigh….
On the cargo pants. I’ve got to try on but when seeing them on you I’m sold ! They’re not at all line the pair I just donated. Yours look more polished.

  6. I am planning to buy from Ulta today and was pleased to see something in a sideshow that I can link through. Just to clarify, when I buy anything on the site, your blog is supported, correct? If so, put Kohls and Ulta and stores like that in every slideshow!

  7. Those cargo pants look great on you. IMO, they fit the best of all that you have shown! I may look them up! You can’t go wrong with a white shirt and a beautiful scarf. The long scarf is elongating to the body. Good job on the clothing choices today. I understand about the hair and nails! Thank goodness I chose a very light color for my last manicure. If I keep cutting my nails, I will have a French Manicure before long. HaHa. Thanks for putting out a few words everyday. It gives me something to look for in my inbox! They are much appreciated.

  8. You captured classic edgy very well! I love all the tops, and I especially love the black wrap top (and price), Both printed pants, silver blazer, the safari jacket and sunglasses.

Thanks for doing this. So fun!

Stay well and have a good day!

  9. Oh, I can describe “edgy” in two words – black leather. I love the look of a moto jacket with everything from a tee to a dress. Black leather boots. Black leather piping on a top. I would add buckles, asymmetric zippers and graphic tees (and I’m not talking kittens, or anything having to do with grandchildren) to my list. The whole leather and lace idea. I would caution using restraint here. A little is edgy, a lot, costume-y. But hey, if that’s your thing, rock on!

  10. Hi Pam,

Thanks for your honest post about nails and hair color. I cut my nails short.
I used to use the Joan Rivers powder and I was a big fan. However last year I decided that going every 3 weeks to get my hair dyed was too much. My hair stylist helped my process along and I am so glad I did it!

Also please check out Boom by Cindy Joseph Boom color stick. I am just a customer of theirs, no connection, but I love the stuff. So easy and gives a hint of color to -wait for this- eyes, cheeks and lips. One little stick!!
It’s amazing. It is perfect for now. You can tell I’ve simplified my look.

    Happy Spring!

  11. I hear you, Diane on the social aspect. I miss my friends…as much as their talents!

  12. This straw bag was an awesome treasure I discovered at a local consignment shop a couple of years back and I love it! Wish I had a link for you.

  13. Yes, this shirt is linen so it does wrinkle. It it a Chico’s tunic that has been in my closet for a while. I am becoming a fan of gauze and want a new white top in gauze…doesn’t really wrinkle and is cool and comfy.

  14. No reason to hide this truth, Lisa. The longer we go, the hair will be evident to all! Thanks for being here.

  15. I really love the fit of these, Paulette. I would not be able to wear the bulky ones. Thanks!

  16. Yes, Linda…thank you! I am happy to include Ulta and Kohls in the slideshows. On any of my slides, if you click on the picture, but go to the site and purchase something else, I still get the credit. Thank you…it is so appreciated!

  17. Good to know, Maggie. Like I said, it was a challenge…but I like a good challenge. Thanks for sending in your adjectives.

  18. I have always described edgy with the word BLACK. So, when ladies began to ask me to find edgy with the words colorful and classic, it was very much a challenge. But, I enjoyed it and now think it is possible to be edgy without black. Thanks Lily!

  19. Hi Carolyn, thanks for the good word about the BOOM sticks. I do like them and like the color choices best. My personal issue is that I cannot wear the product on my lips, it dries them out. But it looks great on my cheeks!

  20. Oh, I LOVE the black silk blouse in the slideshow today from Nordstrom’s . . .but even with 40% off it is $177!!!!!! Yikes! Could you show some alternatives one of these days?
As to nails, mine I keep short all the time since I play the piano daily. No click-clacking allowed!, plus I’ve always enjoyed how strong and healthy my nails are (it’s a benefit of finger exercise 😉). My feet and toes however, can’t wait for the spa to re-open.

  21. Hi Connie, I will look at that blouse and see if I can find more affordable alternatives. Will let you know!
