Fashion Over 50: Celebrating Color and Honoring Fiesta San Antonio

Ali Miles jacket on Over 50 Feeling 40

Hello, ladies!  Today, I want to celebrate color with our fashion choices and honor our Fiesta celebration in San Antonio which would have been happening now.

Honoring Fiesta on Over 50 Feeling 40

San Antonio is an artistic, multi-cultural community saturated in color.  The influences of our predominately Hispanic communities mixed with a variety of other cultures from islands to Germany are seen everywhere in art, architecture, celebrations, foods, and, yes, fashion.

CELEBRATING COLOR

Ali Miles from Dillards Sale on Over 50 Feeling 40

Springtime and summer are the perfect times to bring out the color and the current great sales have made it possible for me to have new color options this year.  I told you last week about Dillard’s sales right now and that is where I scored this beautiful Ali Miles topper…it is a gorgeous piece.  I got it for 60% off and it delivered quickly.  The denim from Chico’s was a recent purchase for $23 on a special push sale one afternoon.  Amazing! and I will wear these often.  The necklace has been in my jewelry collection for a while and was a past purchase at JC Penney’s.  I can do so much with this topper and in fact would probably like it even more with my black leggings…but I am sure you can tell that I like just about everything with my black leggings!

Tomorrow, I am going to tell you more about the fun shoes!  so stay tuned…..

I understand for some of you who do not want to be noticed that color is tough.  But, life is short and why not be noticed for bright, joyful, expressive, creative living.

This would have been a perfect look for a Fiesta party this year, but, alas, there is no Fiesta….not now any way.

HONORING FIESTA

Over 50 Feeling 40 Honors Fiesta

From the Fiesta Website:

“Fiesta® San Antonio started in 1891 as a one-parade event to honor the memory of the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. That historic commemoration still takes place, but for more than a century, Fiesta® has grown into a celebration of San Antonio’s rich and diverse cultures and today is one of this nation’s premier festivals with an economic impact of more than $340 million. Funds raised by official Fiesta® events provide services to San Antonio citizens throughout the year.”

Sadly, due to COVID-19, Fiesta was postponed and has been moved to November.  But, our city is longing for the event. So, this week parades from last year are being re-broadcast and citizens are donning their Fiesta finest online…pulling out the fascinators, medals, hats, tee shirts…all of it.  We are proud to boast of the largest parade in America run completely by women…The Battle of Flowers Parade.  If all had gone well, the famous Fiesta River Parade would have happened on this day in the evening.

I love the fashion of Fiesta and have written about it often.  The color explosions are everywhere and the fashion shows are so much fun!  Yes, we are missing the Spring time events which span over two weeks, but we also are looking forward to November!  What a fun month that is going to be in our city.  One of the books as we celebrate so much this year.

IMPORTANCE OF COLOR THIS YEAR

Fiesta Celebrations on Over 50 Feeling 40

“Color is a power which directly influences the soul.”  Wassily Kandinsky, artist

I am one of those people who loves to wear black and neutrals often, but I also think this year especially, we need the healing, encouraging touch of color.  One of my personal fashion goals for the spring and summer is to wear more color and reflect healing for a nation under the dark clouds of a pandemic and the economic challenges it has delivered to our isolated door steps.

So, I am all in for celebrating Fiesta in our own ways and hearts and to give us hope for November.  I am also in for wearing color when I am out, in a way to tell the world I am creative, joyful, and hopeful.

It is more important for every day to be a Fiesta day than before.  Viva Fiesta!  Fiesta Calendar of Events 2020.

Is anyone else ready to break out the color?  I know it is difficult if you still have snow on your doorstep and fires in the fireplaces, but maybe that will help you to warm things up a bit.

Today’s slideshow is dedicated to COLOR!

Remember, in our social distancing world, your smile is the way you send hugs!

  1. My goodness, such beautiful colors in this post! What a great deal on those jeans Pam!! I love the color and the way they coordinate with the topper and your necklace! You are so right, it’s time to break out some color, regardless of what the weather might be doing. Color can help us feel more positive and hopeful, and that’s what we need. Like you, I love to wear black but can certainly add color in other pieces. I have far more color in my spring and summer things and am so anxious for some cooperative weather to get them into the rotation. Thank you for sharing your beautiful pictures!

  2. I love colors very much and your topper is a marvel. In my Parisian apartment (we are compulsorily blocked at home since mid-March, except for basic shopping or health care), I am trying to get some spring-atmosphere with colors (clothes, cushions, art books, etc). It is a pleasure to look at your beautiful posts. Enjoy a colorful week and thanks for the pictures.

  3. I love the topper you are wearing in the picture. I also found some nice tops that would fit plus size in your slide show. This topper is absolutely beautiful and I would gladly wear it! Thank you so much for sharing your heart and life with us during this time of shelter in place. I am excited that soon we will be able to shop in a real store. I do order online but I like trying things on as just because you like a certain piece it may not look good on me! Happy Monday!

  4. Beautiful. beautiful. beautiful you. Love this outfit and how wonderfully you carry it off. To a magical Monday everywhere. ( yes, we’re stuck in and our state us in a surge of cases) . Despite it all, let’s try to find some magic.

  5. The Fiesta colors are amazing. You look wonderful in that topper. My sister loved bright colors and always told me I needed to brighten up. I believe I’ll take both of your advise and start wearing brighter colors. It is definitely good for the soul.

  6. What a cheerful post! You are fortunate to live in such a vibrant city! As much as I like bright colors, I really don’t feel like myself in them. I may go for color, just in a a more muted tone. I have noticed you are getting away from shorter, more fitted second layers lately?

  7. Thanks for the colorful post, and the link to the upcoming schedule of events this fall. With international travel still a big question mark, I am tempted to plan a road trip instead to your neck of the woods! October/November is exactly when we would typically be in Mexico. Your fiesta and the whole region would give us a lovely new place to explore, and it looks like the music and dance offerings are outstanding!

  8. You would love it, Connie!! Come on down! It backs up to the local celebration of Day of the Dead…you will probably think you are in Mexico! Book soon…downtown hotels will fill up fast or enjoy the La Cantera Resort and shuttle into downtown…that is where all of the Fiesta action is!

  9. Good morning from ‘stay at home’ CA,

Thankyou for being a bright light in our lives, Pam!
Each day your, joy filled spirit and beautiful smile brighten the lives of your many readers!

I love the top you are wearing and would wear it often this summer!
The colors lend themselves to many different colored pants!
Your necklace is the perfect accessory for this outfit! Very festive 😊
I try to incorporate color in some way to most of my outfits!

Wearing happy colors brings out much needed smiles for ‘stay at home’ ladies and definitely gives one a happy and hopeful feeling!

Praying you and your family stay healthy!

  10. Love this colourful post! Fiesta sounds like _so_ much fun. Thanks for the link; reading more later.

You look fabulous & ready to join the fiesta. Enjoy your uplifting & positive posts.

Agree with wearing colour. My whole wardrobe is muted pastels & whites. On me they look bright & cheery.
