Fashion Over 50: Wearing the color of the year, but I should’ve worn pink!

Pamela Lutrell wears the color of the year for 2020 for work from home style

This bright blue color of the year is one of my favorites to wear, but this week, I wore it with a purpose in mind. In our new social distancing world, families must get creative with family events.  In the past, we have had little backyard parties to reveal the genders of grandchildren.  But, this week, my daughter-in-law decided to host the latest one on Facebook Live. (You will see in the slideshow below that you can purchase graphics for your online event if you want to get fancy.) They carefully asked each family member what we thought.  I really thought it was going to be a boy, so I wore blue for work-from-home-day in honor of my guess.  They have the cutest growing family with one boy and one girl, so the guesses wear about half and half.

Well, I should’ve worn pink!  The cupcake held a bright pink icing in the middle in order to say, “It’s a girl!”  She is due in the fall and currently does not have a name.  If my three-year-old granddaughter gets her way, her new sister will probably be named after a Disney princess. Maybe I guessed wrong, but we are all winners here.  Can’t wait to meet her.

This will be grandchild #6 and the second girl!

LOVE BLUE ANYWAY

Peter Nygard jacket from Dillards on Over 50 Feeling 40

Even though I suppose I should have worn pink that day, I do love this Peter Nygard jacket I have owned for several years and purchased on sale at Dillard’s.  When I learned the 2020 Color of the year from Pantone, I was really excited because I love the color and have several pieces already in my wardrobe.

The scarf was sent to me in the past from Chico’s and it pairs really well with the jacket.  I have found that the older scarves in my closet are the shorter ones and I like this length the best to wear handing down the front like this with a jacket.  It looked perfect for my online web meetings that day.

WOULD I WEAR IT?

Over 50 Feeling 40 hosts Would You Wear It Pop Up

It was fun yesterday to have a midweek Would You Wear It pop up on both sites.  I loved reading the comments on this blog and on Jennifer’s.  I promised to tell you what I thought of the outfit that I posted.  I have long been a fan of the clothing in the Artful Home mailer and on their website.  The artistic vibes really speak to my creative side.

When I first saw this outfit, I was taken with it and loved it.  To me this is a chic, elegant side of warmer weather clothing and would look lovely at so many events (we can’t attend right now, but hopefully soon). I  am accustomed to liking fashion that would not look good on me…though I wish it would and it is annoying when it doesn’t.  I have large girls on the top and curvy hips so it would only accentuate the negatives and not the positives. I definitely would not look like the woman in the catalog does wearing this.  I personally love this color but were I to purchase the outfit, l would select the lighter summery color in sand.  It would be fun to try it on, but that can’t happen with the way the marketing is done for this line.  So, I would not wear it because I really could not wear it and do justice to me or the brand!  It is lovely, though.

Thank you to those who participated and look for more Would You Wear It on Saturday!

Has anyone else attended a family event online since social distancing began?  Was it fun?  Tell us how it was done!

Today’s slideshows are dedicated to pink and blue and babies and joy!

Remember, in our social distancing world, your smile is the way you send hugs!

  1. Congratulations to you and your family on the new little one! By the time she arrives we will hopefully be back to normal so you can meet her in person! Cute idea to have the family gathering live like that, I’ll bet it was fun! Your jacket is such a pretty shade of blue and the scarf is beautiful! Such a vibrant color!

The little girl next door had her first birthday yesterday, and last evening a parade came down our street with a police escort, horns blaring, banners, balloons and streamers, happy faces shouting birthday greetings to the family on their porch. Their little girls were so excited! The neighbors could join in from our porches and I thought it was a beautiful way to celebrate a birthday “from a distance!” Nice to see how people are being creative in our circumstances!

  2. You were looking good in this outfit. Blue color suits you very well. Keep sharing other colors outfits also.

  3. This blue on you makes me know for sure that certain colors are perfect for each of us. You look stunning in this color. It is bright and your face just glows!

  4. People in our town did the same or similar for a woman celebrating her 91 st(!)
birthday. You could tell from the photos she was absolutely delighted with all the balloons and signs and waving family and friends as they slowly drove by.

  5. Love you in the blue, and adore the styling with just a hint of pattern added by the scarf and your crisp white shirt. This really speaks to me and the way I love to dress. Congratulations on the family news! I am stuck in the “in-between” years where my sons are in their mid to late twenties, single, and not ready to settle down yet. So no cute little babies for me to grandmother yet. 🙄 Hopefully some day. 🤞

  6. Congratulations!!! Such exciting news and a something wonderful to look forward to.
Grandkids are such a blessing. I have 5, 4 boys and a princess! Even though you had the wrong gender, your jacket color is beautiful. The scarf really compliments it perfectly.
Have a great day and stay safe!

  7. Congratulations on your future granddaughter! I smile about the Disney princess name. Our granddaughter Alyssa wanted to name her little sister, Adriana, Cinderella. Today, Adriana still carries the nickname of Cinderella!
I love the bright blues – royal, cobalt, etc. Enjoy!

  8. I give your look five stars! That blue is very pretty. I like the fit of the jacket. The scarf goes perfectly and adds some fun print without being over the top. The white shirt and jeans stay in the background and keep the look put together yet down to earth.

  9. Congratulations on your anticipated bundle of joy! Even if it was the wrong color, that blue jacket is beautiful. I love the scarf with it.

  10. I love your jacket. I learned at a conference years ago that royal blue and turquoise are two colors anyone of any complexion will look good in. That’s why it is a good color to gift. Thanks for sharing the color of the year. I’m going to my closet to review what I have in that blue…

  11. God bless your growing family! A new baby is a joyous occasion and you deserve all of life’s best. Thank you for your inspiration!

  12. Congratualations! We just had our 8th grandchild. We have 5 grandsons and 3 granddaughters. It is very exciting!
