The Daily Coffee Shop: Enjoying some fun while working from home + a Would You Wear It update

Our at home coffee shop on over 50 Feeling 40

In many ways, the time at home with Mr.B has brought out some needed creativity and fun for both of us.  I have already told you that M-F our home becomes our office building where both of us work in offices side by side upstairs (both are children’s old bedrooms) and we refer to the kitchen as the cafeteria. However, before it becomes the cafeteria, it is the morning coffee shop and Mr. B is the barista!  The only problem is that he sleeps later than I do and sometimes it is hard to await this coffee shop to open!

But, so far it has been worth the wait.  He grinds the beans and makes a wonderful fresh roast coffee and takes great care to swirl in the cream! Every morning, I stand on the other side of the kitchen bar, stamp my foot impatiently and ask for scones…and he never has scones.  I tell him he needs to diversify in order to keep my business!

Avocado Toast on Over 50 Feeling 40 for breakfast

But he does have a delicious avocado toast on sprouted grain bread!  It works….though I dream of a scone!  One half of the avocado is mashed with olive oil mayo, a touch of cayenne pepper, and garlic salt.  I love Ezekiel Bread…it is sprouted grain and frozen.  Makes an excellent toast, and considered one of the healthiest breads to eat.

Using Coffee Grounds as plant food on OVer 50 Feeling 40

Afterwards, the coffee grounds go out to fertilize a flowering plant.  We actually tested this theory when my daughter was in middle school for a science project.  She is mother of three now, so it has been some time ago.   We took three begonias in separate pots.  One was watered with regular, plain water.  One was watered with sugar water.  One was watered with water which had coffee in it.  The one with coffee grew twice the blossoms and size of the others. Actually, the sugar water one died eventually.  So, now our flowers also get a cup of coffee.  Something we both did not take time to do when we are rushing off to work at another location.

All in all, Mr. B’s coffee shop is a fun, delicious way to begin our day!

MY TAKE….ON WOULD YOU WEAR IT

Tunics and Leggings on Over 50 Feeling 40

Today, I am showing you my take on a long tunic top, capris leggings, and flats.  I agree with those of you who said on Saturday that the WOULD YOU WEAR IT look had ruffles in a bad place.

Tunic & Leggings on Would You Wear it

Those ruffles would draw the eye right to a rather large portion of my body where I do not want the focus, and the straps on the shoes make them less flattering to wear than a regular pair of ballet flats because they chop off the legline.  But, a long tunic with capris and flats like I am wearing today is a look I really like for me. Today’s tunic is vintage Chico’s and the capris leggings are by Planet, a brand often found in boutiques and on the website Artful Home, which I have shared with you a lot lately while I await my return to the malls for mannequins.

I have not ever been one to wear scarves in my hair…rarely has it happened.  But, I am about to become a fan.  It is a fun, creative way to bring in some color and cover the gray.  I do not see me going gray before I officially retire, but the growing out the bangs “might” be a consideration.  We will see what this looks like once the salons open and I see my stylist again. You can probably tell ( I can!) in the picture that I am not really comfortable with my scarf, but I am going to keep playing with it.  (NOTE: Later in the day, I reworked it with the knot on top and liked it much better!)

Now, for the update…Jennifer and I are going to bring to you another Would You Wear It Pop Up tomorrow!  We hope you will join us for some additional fashion fun.

Now, of course, I have a Fabulous Find slide show for you ….enjoy…if you take your time to shop, there are some great finds out there right now!

Remember, in our social distancing world, your smile is the way you send hugs!

KEEP SMILING and hugging…yes, even through the mask, our eyes tell a story!

  1. I really like this outfit on you…very slimming. The scarf is a fun feature for that punch of color.

  2. Another great post! I love the coffee shop idea.
Where did you find gluten free Ezekiel bread? I have to be gluten free and I would love a good bread, they are very hard to find. All of the Ezekiel brands I have found have gluten. Wheat, Barley and Rye all are grains with gluten. If you would show us the front and back of the package I would really appreciate it ! Thank you !

  3. Hi Beth…I will get images for you later today… promise. I get it at my favorite grocer, HEB in frozen foods. I also love the English muffins. I just checked the web and you are right…it is not gluten free…but it is considered one of the healthiest breads to eat if you don’t have an illness that prohibits gluten. I will edit it right now…thank you for pointing that out.

  4. Love this outfit on you, Pam! It is something I would definitely wear. Also, thanks for the reminder about coffee grounds on plants. Forgot about that – my dad used to do that in his garden.

  5. Thank you Pam!
That has been my experience, I wish I could find a really good bread. My husband and I make our own using King Arthur measure for measure flour and it is really good but I was hoping you had found one that I could eat!

  6. As a retired high school science teacher, I had to smile at the mention of your daughter’s science project. As you found out the coffee grounds provided nitrogen which is definitely needed for growth of plants. And your adding sugar to the water would have affected the movement of water by osmosis out of the plant which is probably why it died. Sorry…we teachers have a difficult time not continuing to teach. Thank you for providing us with a daily look into your life. We folks who have husbands who grind the beans and make the coffee are blessed indeed.

  7. Love your outfit and the scarf adds a bit of sass! Cute story about your barista. A scone would be lovely…just sayin’. We like Killer Dave’s breads. Haven’t had Ezekiel bread for a while but the Urban Farmer loves Ezekiel cereal. Whether we purchase ready made bread products or make it ourselves, we use only organic flours. For some folks, it isn’t necessarily the flour but the glyphosate used on the wheat. This may not be the answer for people with celiac disease, but I find it helps with my sensitivity to wheat products.

  8. Pam you look absolutely sassy! I’m going to replicate. I have that Chico’s top. Please post a pic of the scarf configuration you ended up with.

  9. Yes we are…and we are also blessed to have good teachers who find more ways to teach! Thanks for sharing Celia.

  10. I like sassy. I will try to get a new picture for you with the scarf…and maybe put it in the Weekly Journal Entry on Friday. Thanks!

  11. On gluten free bread I’m enjoying Happy Campers gf bread products and they ship to me as are not in stores near my home. . I have to avoid Rice Flour which most gf breads are made from. Theirs is not! I feel lucky to have found this company!

  12. I wish it were possible to see where clothes are made. Usually it only says imported. Trying to buy more local or from countries with certain standards.

  13. I understand, Ida. I will try to start seeing if I can find out those answers…but sometimes it is not easy info to get. I want to support local and American made as well.

  14. Your take on tunic, capri leggings, and flats is a big improvement over the one shown on Saturday!

I’ve never been one to wear scarves in my hair either, but desperate times call for desperate measures as they say. I’ve done a bit of experimenting lately, but like you, I’m not entirely comfortable with it. Must keep trying, I guess!

  15. What a really cute outfit Pam! The scarf in your hair is great!! I always find it a joy to read about the fun you are having with working from home with Mr. B. I just have to say, you are really blessed to have such a great relationship where fun plays into it like you describe. I love avocado toast and that Ezekiel bread is sold at a local store here too, and it’s delicious! Lucky you having a bistro downstairs!! : ) : )

  16. I am still trying…like practicing with the masks…maybe I will get more comfortable with it!

  17. Thank you for the bread reminder! I ate Ezekiel bread years ago and had forgotten it. My husband has done our grocery shopping for years, he’s retired, and it’s only recently he’s asked me to go along with him.
Your scarf is cute and helps give some definition to an all-black outfit for warmer weather. I like ballet flats but they’re not a good for me as they slip off my feet. I love t-straps, which seem to be impossible to find on less than a 4-inch heel.
To get scarf-styling ideas, try Pinterest. I have loads of scarves, thin to medium weight, and this summer plan to try them in my hair too.

  18. I have looked at some of the youtube scarf tying for hair…it will help when I have my hair done again. It is a little difficult when it has lots of layers.

  19. You look so cute in today’s picture! I loved wearing headbands as a girl, both the hard plastic kind and the fabric type with elastic at the base. I wear my hair a lot like yours actually, with bangs. I love my bangs and feel like they bring attention directly to my eyes, as yours do. It’s been decades since I’ve worn headbands but I’ve been tempted to find some like Erin Napier wears so often on Hometown (the HGTV show set in Laurel, Missisippi). If you find some interesting ones, I’d love to see them in a slideshow with links to purchase.

  20. Yes! I would love to find fun headbands. Our Gov just announced a date for salons to open. I am so excited!! I will look for headbands soon.
