Affordable Fun! A “Summer Makeover at Walgreens” with AARP Member Benefits

#sponsored Hi everyone, I am back to discuss AARP member benefits!  This is the third time I am sharing ways to stretch your budget and get more out of your AARP membership.  We all know that every little bit helps and with your AARP member benefits you can save and do more.  We may be in the midst of difficult times and learning new ways of thinking, but there are many opportunities to save and make the most of the benefits available to us, including as AARP members.

Walgreens AARP Benefits on Over 50 Feeling 40

Let’s think about a “Summer Makeover.”  I know we talk a lot about fashion here, but another way to refresh your style after not only a long winter, but an entire spring in lockdown, is to find easy makeup touch-ups and simple ways to refresh your complexion.  One of the best places to find all you need is Walgreens, which is one of many stores where AARP members can save.

You see me here shopping at my neighborhood Walgreens. This shopping trip was done before the Coronavirus hit our country.  So, now, I am glad I can do my shopping online with Walgreens and still take advantage of the benefits available to me as an AARP member. Each Walgreens that I have ever been in (and there are many since they are practically on every other corner in our city) has a well-stocked, bright beauty department.  It is almost always the first department you see in the store, drawing you in to the excellent brands they offer.

You can find the everyday brands you know, love and probably already use to look your youthful best, because they specifically highlight products targeting over-50 beauty. If you’re thinking about how you can update your look and get a glow for summer, consider these ideas:

  1. Find a great exfoliator and face cleanser to help refresh the surface of your face.
  2. Add some bright highlights in either a cream or powder that you can pat at the top of your cheeks or brush on bright with a fan brush. Then place a little of it in the inside corner of each eye to widen and brighten your eye area.
  3. Use a bronzer just under your chin, across your forehead, and just a little at the bottom of your cheek areas (you know, for a little definition that you can get from sucking in the sides of your mouth.) Time to accentuate your positives with definition.
  4. Try a new eye color…summer is a great time for new things. Bright blues will be big this year and often can be a lot of fun with a colorful outfit. Of course, I had to pick up some of my purple mascara while I was there.  It makes my green eyes pop so well.

5. Add a soft and dewy lip color with a little shine…it says the sun is shining and so am I.

While many of us are still staying safe at home, states have started re-opening businesses making it possible to explore (safely following store shopping policies) for a little beauty refresh and self-care.  Visit Walgreens.com to shop for everything you need and save as an AARP member.

I have had a Walgreens Balance® Reward card for a few years, and I can link my AARP membership with my Walgreens Balance® Rewards card so that I receive…

5X everyday points on Walgreens brand health and wellness products* (that’s 50 points per $1) and 3X everyday points on beauty products (that’s 30 points per $1)**.

AARP members should take advantage of their member benefits whenever possible.  It’s good sense, especially for those of you who are retired now.  If you are not a member, you can sign-up for just $16 a year!

Let me know if you try a new eye color…I would love to know if anyone has tried a new look for summer and loved it!

  1. I have not thought about using my AARP membership in connection to Walgreens, but now that you have made me aware, I’ll certainly try. Speaking of wearing makeup, I’ve thought when I get dressed to go out which has been rare for months that I don’t need blush or lipstick since I’ll be wearing my mask. I put makeup on my eyes, but that’s all. Some day hopefully it will be different.

  2. I have also found some cute summer sundresses and scarves at Walgreen’s. Not the best quality, of course, but for a fun vacation dress I’ve done this a few times. They do have a nice selection of health and beauty products. They are closing some Walgreens stores in my area, not sure why because I haven’t looked into it, but I did visit one on my recent vacation in NC and found a cute dress that was perfect for the beach. That area of the store is worth checking out too. I can’t say I’ve tried new makeup for summer, but do wear it every single day. I did try a lighter shade of lipstick that has worked out well, so I guess that counts!

  3. Thanks for the reminder…I found a scarf there that I still wear…no one would know it’s from Walgreens!
    Happy Thursday, Karen!

  4. Thank you for this reminder about Walgreen’s and especially my AARP membership; such good suggestions, Pamela!

  5. I keep intending to tell you how great your hair looks. The colour & cut are really flattering!

  6. Thank you for this information. I have been going to Walgreens more often and I will look into this with AARP. Have a lovely weekend.
