Would You Wear It with Pam & Jennifer

Would You Wear This Over 50 Feeling 40

Happy Saturday, everyone, and welcome to Would You Wear It with me and my friend Jennifer!  On this day, we show you an outfit that we have found interesting and would like to know what you think about it.  Last Wednesday, there was some excellent conversation and constructive tips about the looks.  Let’s keep that going today!

We ask that you look the entire style over…then answer if you would or would not wear it…and explain constructively why or why not.  Pretend you are a teacher and explaining to a student why it does or does not work for your body type…age appropriate…lifestyle…coloring…etc.  The question is Would You Wear It and not Would you buy it...so there is not need to bring up costs here.  We are simply teaching each other about garments and how to style them.

So, look this outfit over and tell us…..

WOULD YOU WEAR IT???

  1. I don’t think I would wear this. We hit 90 degrees this week and the Manager of my at-home office is always thinking about the electric bill so the room isn’t excessively cooled. The dark colored heavy knit outfit looks hot.

  2. My initial reaction is it looks like it would be warm – not something I want in a short sleeve outfit. I don’t wear black, so I would not buy it for me just based on the color. I do like the interesting placement of the stripes, as well as the neckline and the longer sleeves. However, even in a different color, the top is no for me – the sleeves would need to be shorter or longer and taken in a bit as they appear a bit wide (and hit right at the waist). The overall length of the top would also have to be longer or shorter to suit me – it would hit at the widest part of my body. A little accessorizing would go a long way with this outfit.

  3. I do like this outfit. I would buy it. If the material is a “cool” one I might wear this in early fall when it is still warm and humid, and when transitioning from whites to fall clothing. I wonder how the top might look with pale grey pants ?
I’d wear it with a similar shoe on model or, even a flat strappy sandal or ballet flat.
    Hoop earrings! Very nice!

  4. i would need to try on the top first, stripes are not normally kind to me, but the different way those are presented, might make a difference. the style of top is nice, i have a couple similiar to that that are just right for leggings…i also have black pants, but they are jeans and longer, ankle pants are just not comfortable for me, although they work on many other women. i know the shoes are popular, and they are cute, but i cant keep that style on my feet, i have to have a back on shoes, or a toe thong style. on the slide show, i liked the checkered bright print shirt, the pink bathing suit cover, and the long sleeve shirt with buttons…

  5. I would wear the pants in any color. The fit looks like it would work really well for me. I Love the shoes but I would need them in lighter color. I am pretty fair so dark colors do not look the best on my feet. I would not wear the top. I think that much fabric would make me look heavier, never a good look for me !

  6. Yes I would wear it in Navy. No black for me. Definitely a top for slim cut pants.
    Thanks.

  7. I like the monochrome look with the extra interest of the pattern plus the sleeve length would work for me. I’d wear it with flats as I don’t wear heels now.

  8. Personally, with the pants being ankle length I would much prefer them more tapered. As for the top, a ‘no’ as just not appropriate for my body type. (I am somewhat slender so would feel lost in it.) Regarding the shoes; though somewhat cute as another reader pointed out I know I would have difficulty walking any great distance in them due to their lack of support and since they do have a heel would most likely flop-slap and throw off my gait.

  9. The pants and the sandals yes with an airy cotton top. This top no. It looks like a maternity top – too much fabric. This outfit has too much black for me for summer.

  10. I love this outfit and would definitely wear it. The top is fun and the length is just right for someone who is long-waisted like me. The cut of the pants is great and while black pants are a staple in my wardrobe year-round, I would wear them in other colours too. The shoes are a bit high for me to wear on a regular basis so I would mix it up with my black keds, sandals or flats (maybe red).

  11. I would give this outfit a try if it was a color other than black. I typically don’t like much pattern, but I think the lines on the top make it interesting without being overwhelming.

  12. I absolutely love the shape, design and overall style of this outfit and would wear it in a different color. The only other thing I would change is the length of the sleeves as I find ones that end there quite annoying. I don’t wear black or really dark outfits anymore.

  13. I’d have to see this outfit up close to make a decision. At first glance I’d say no. The fabric looks heavy. I do, however, like the shoes.

  14. Yes to the entire ensemble. Black is a year round color for me. I like the diagonal stripes on the top and the longer sleeves. It has a bit too much flair but that is easily tailored. The pants are classics as are the shoes.

  15. I absolutely love the discrete neckline and the elbow length sleeves. The different directions of the stripes add nice interest to the top. Since the top seems to fit a little wide (or maybe it’s the stripes) wearing it with skinny pants would be a must for me. If this were in a cotton gauze or linen material, it would be perfect for the warmer months…even in black. I would probably pair the top with white pants to give it a more summer look. I would definitely give it a try on to see if it worked for me.

  16. I am new to your blog and enjoying it very much. Today’s “Would You Wear It” was a total hit with me.
    The top:
    -interesting piecing of the stripes.
    Oblique pieces draw attention toward
    the face.
Length of tunic maximizes leg length
    while still covering backside.
Sleeve length perfect for me, ending
at elbow to cover my challenging
    upper arm wings.
    Wide jewel neckline elongates the
neck and draws attention, once again,
    to the the face.

    The Pant:
    Dark colored, straight leg, modern
    length to showcase those beautiful
    shoes.

    The Shoes:
Being black and 2”(guessing here) they
further elongate the leg. I still wear
heels but 2” is the limit and they have
to be wide and clunky as these are.
    The double strap looks supportive
    enough.

  17. I would definitely wear this in late Fall! It is my go-to look for everyday errands and appointments. I would size down the top. It looks a little loose. I, too, would pair it with flat shoes, such as black and white Vanns or slip on sneakers. All said, it is a cute simple outfit that would go lots of places with the right accessories, Great for travel, too. Thanks. I am glad to see it.

  18. My Mother taught me never to wear horizontal stripes. So, with that I would not wear. I do like the neckline as an alternative to check.

  19. Love the whole look. I would save it for a slightly cooler day. A big yes!

  20. I love this and would definitely wear it. The stripes coming to a point create a waist and the fit is not so oversized as to be sloppy. It fits my style words of Interesting and Creative, while not way out, thus also being Polished. I love the shoes and don’t think they would move around on the foot. They hit a style sweet spot of dressing up a very casual outfit, yet could dress down something a little more dressy in another outfit. I often look for shoes like this because they allow me to get more mileage out of the dressier parts of my closet, given my overall casual lifestyle. The shoes would look great with dark washed jeans and a silk blouse.

  21. If I saw this in a store, I would walk right past it. It says “old lady” to me with a top that is obviously meant to hide a big stomach and typical black stretch pants. Maybe the pants are a beautiful fabric and I’m being unfair, but overall it’s dark and drab for summertime and I would feel drab while wearing it.

  22. I like everything about the top except the color and the pants are fine basic black pants (a staple in my wardrobe). But, I’d say no to the shoes: too ‘chunky’

  23. Love the whole look. Could use some accessorizing – just my opinion. Would wear this anywhere anytime.

  24. I love the outfit and would definitely wear it. I would prefer it in navy, but would wear it as is in black. I think It would also work with more casual shoes like my black Vans or Birkenstock’s. It’s a winner for me! 😄

  25. I have this type of pattern in a black and white skirt. It is amazingly slimming on my pear shape, so I advise anyone reluctant to wear horizontal stripes to try a pattern like this. It can really fool the eye.

As for this top, the sleeves are slightly too long, and the hem falls at the widest part of the body, so no. I like three-quarter sleeves, full sleeves or short sleeves. Not a fan of all the peculiar sleeve lengths right now, or pouffy sleeves, or great gaping armholes on sleeveless tops.

BTW, this is more of a fall outfit, IMO.

  26. I like the pants; I like the shoes. But the striping on the top would do nothing to enhance my short and wider body. Also, it looks like a very hot (like over warm) outfit for summer. So I’ll pass.

  27. Though I’m trying not to add more black to my wardrobe, especially in tops, this one definitely appeals to me. I like the shape, the length of the sleeves, and the placement of the stripes. The finishing of the neckline concerns me though. I have a couple of tops that appear to be finished in the same manner and I find that the necklines begin to sag. I would wear the outfit with ballet flats or sandals, but not the ones that are shown. Even that much heel is too much for me and I have a very narrow foot, so a slip on sandal doesn’t usually work for me.

  28. I like the individual pieces but together they look hot (it’s 105 here today!) and bulky. I would go for a lighter pant and a skinnier strapped sandal to balance it out a little more.

  29. I have a similar top, white wth black stripes. The diagonal stripes are quite flattering.

  30. I would wear it! The placement of the stripes on the side of the top give the illusion of a waist (which I need) . I love the pants and casual slip on sandals.

  31. My first thought was that I’d wear this since I like leggings and tunics. However, when I really looked at the details, the pants are tapered. I usually wear a shorter top with slim-fit pants. I’d have to try the top on to see if it flattered my body. I like the diagonal stripes but I’m not sure I’d like the horizontal strips across my tummy/hips. If the top fit, I’d wear it with leggings. I know a column of color is slimming but this outfit just doesn’t look like “summer” to me. I have a similar shoe. Mine are a thong-style so they stay on the foot better than a slip-on. I plan to wear mine today with a black tunic over white 7/8 length leggings.

  32. I would wear this in cooler weather. I like the mix of stripes & have been thinking of adding some leggings to my wardrobe. It looks like a comfortable at home outfit. I would wear the top with black or white denim to run errands but doubt that I would wear the leggings outside of the house. I’m a little too self conscious for that.

  33. I like the outfit and would buy it if the top was solid color. I don’t do stripes.

  34. Yes I would wear the whole outfit . ,,I have lots of black already tho. But this a slimming style and has sleeves I like . Ez care no iron look too .. I even like her shoes . This reflected a lot of what I already wear . Polished. But casual

  35. This is not a look that I would gravitate towards. The outfit seems very drab and dull. Too much black for my colouring, and I feel the stripes are too large and would make the upper part of my body look larger than it is. I don’t really care for the shoes either. The slacks I would wear, however, just style them with a different top and pair of sandals.

  36. Oh yes!yes,
    I love the look,
The straight leg pants have at stop @ t the ankles are flattering
i love different stripes of top, probably a fall outfit.

  37. Ah yes! Black pants, my fav! They look very slimming. They get a yes from me. While I’m not crazy about the color of the top I’d probably wear it. Maybe with white or khaki pants.

  38. No, but only because the neckline doesn’t flatter me at all. I love the colour & stripes, the length is perfect, the styling fresh & uncluttered but with a distinctive look . It would work perfectly for me on cool, damp days & evenings here in the Pacific NW, as well as at home when the fog rolls in & the temperature drops like a rock. Too bad it’s not a V-neck [sigh]. At home I’d wear it with bare feet (bright nail polish!) & earrings (& flip-flops on the deck); if I wore it out, I’d pair it with black canvas wedgies.

  39. In a heartbeat. Very cute outfit. I like the look of a flared top over narrow pants or leggings. The sandals have a reasonable heel. The only problem I have with it is that I am not currently using black in my capsule wardrobe. But, that is neither here or there. Yes, I would wear it.

  40. I would definitely wear this outfit as I like all the elements. I like the classic look of the top and the placement of the stripes – I might have sleeves and length altered it if it was too long. I have similar style tops and wear them over slim pants all the time. I like the shoes and have multiple pairs in various colors to pair with outfits like this one. The two-strap style coupled with a block heel is fabulous. I think this look is classic, stylish, and polished. I don’t mind the black, but the fabric composition is key. If the fabric were on the heavier side, I would wear this as fall or early winter outfit. To lighten the look, I might pair the top with white or light gray slim slacks and nude sandals. I might add a long silver necklace or pendant.
