  1. Interesting concept discussed in the housing article. Where I live, houses are on the market for mere days and snapped up quickly….and from what I’ve been seeing in my own neighborhood, by much younger people. Probably depends on the area, but I just don’t see a collapse coming any time soon. My neighbors (young couple) put their house on the market and it sold in one day (purchased by a couple in their late 20’s). I’m getting mine ready because I’m one of those described who has had my fill of cutting grass, pulling weeds and doing repairs. I don’t feel anywhere near ready for a senior community or assisted living, but just want to have more time to travel and do the things I really enjoy. Cute story about the bra shopping! I think it’s true that they choose us. Each time I’ve been measured and brought samples to try, they have never fit, not once. I found a brand that is perfect and stocked up, but like so many other things, these need to be tried on. Even the same size in a different style can fit incorrectly. It’s interesting.

  2. I agree, Karen! In Texas, houses are going so quickly! Maybe we will hear different from other readers.

  3. Love your blog. One suggestion though — could you please make it so when we click one of your links, that a new page opens, rather than overlaying your original blog post page? That would make it so much simpler to continue reading your blog, open the relevant links and stack them for reading/viewing after I’ve finished reading your daily blog. Thanks!

  4. I will speak with my website designer, Judith. Thank you for your suggestion. Looking into it.

  5. The Chicago housing market is hot too! I agree with Karen, getting my house in order. I’m done with grass cutting, weeding, repairs, flooded basements, etc. I’m looking at condos and townhouses.

  6. Always great readings, Pam! Two years ago we sold everything & moved cross country. We had lived in a 55+ community once before and I didn’t want to do that again so we looked for an active, condo community. Yes, there’s lots of retirees here but also a fair amount of younger couples and a few children. My big home fulfilled a dream of a large yard with a bedroom for all but I realize now why my parents chose a smaller more manageable home.

  7. We downsized to a large (130+ units) condo community six years ago and never looked back. To travel, we just shut the door. We don’t worry about grass, snow, gutters, or outside window washing. We never have to clean our pool. We have woods behind us where we see deer, foxes, coyotes and more, while actually living in a convenient, densely populated suburb. Neighbors check on each other regularly, and make birthday cakes, send get well cards, etc. We did investigate by looking over financial statements carefully, visiting at all hours to check regarding possible noise, and there have been no surprises except good ones. We did look at a lot of options (free standing villa, planned community, downtown loft, cluster community), and what we thought we wanted initially was not what we ended up buying. Financially, it was game changing.

  8. Yes, we sold our ten acre ranch with 4,000′ cedar home just a couple months ago, 40k above our asking price with five different bidders over a weekend – astonishing to us considering we were mid-pandemic and live quite rural. That enabled us to move back into town (still very rural) to our cottage and undertake some remodeling. This puts us close to medical services my husband needs, and alleviates the extra work it took to care for the big property, animals and giant house. It also makes caring for my parents much easier as they live just two miles from my home now. Some day I will move up north near my sons and enjoy a townhouse or condo, but for now this is what works best for our situation.

  9. Thanks for sharing, Connie. I know you have been through a lot lately. You are an inspiration of strength.

  10. The article on bra shopping gave me a chuckle. It seems like I find a style I like , & it disappears. I have to say that more stores are carrying nicer plus size items than they did twenty years ago. My late mother wore plus size tops. I was always frustrated when shopping for her, & all I could find were oversized t-shirts. Now stores like Talbots have extensive plus size collections. The housing market here in central Indiana is definitely a seller’s market. Our daughter & son-in-law lost out on several properties because there was a bidding war. After they finally found one, they put their home on the market & had a full price offer in less than 24 hours.
