Mondays! Affordable fashion, fall recipes, wrapped in cashmere on sale

Pamela Lutrell in Goodwill SA find for fall clothing

Welcome to the last week of October! Let’s continue to celebrate fall on this Monday with affordable fashion ideas, recipes for fall treats, and wrap it all in a touch of cashmere on sale from an elegant woman!

Pamela Lutrell in Soft Surroundings on over 50 Feeling 40

Today, I want to remind you that the most affordable clothing is what is already in your closet!  These two outfits were two of my favorites from last fall.

The green jacket is a treasure find from Goodwill San Antonio, and the colorful topper is one of my favorites from Soft Surroundings. They both stayed when I did my big closet purge.

Wearing what you love over and over again is actually a trait of elegant women.  Simplicity…less is more…and wearing often what you feel confident in are what most elegant women seem to live by.

But I would love more cashmere…more about that below!

Autumn Treats at Favorite Places

Pamela Lutrell at Bird Bakery in San Antonio

Do you have favorite places you just long to go by again and again?  I know the pandemic has taken the frequency away, but some of us can still stop by occasionally or order takeout.

I am once again sharing with you one of my favorite places in San Antonio….Bird Bakery in Alamo Heights.

They have been very innovative to keep their business alive…such as selling their cookie dough or cookie decorating kits.

Table Decor at Bird Bakery on Over 50 Feeling 40

Elizabeth Chambers, the owner, was inspired by her grandmother’s baking.  She has openly shared some of her favorite recipes….so today, here is one of my personal favorites.

This one cookie could actually be a meal (of course not KETO!) and the dough freezes well. You can tell by the ingredients that this makes ALOT of cookies….great gifts to pass around too!

  1. Good Morning! I agree about shopping our own closets, and have been trying to pull together new combinations this fall so my old favorites feel a little fresher. Going to check out the cashmere. 😁 This week is looking pretty good for me: my youngest son arrives today for a few days of visiting 🤸‍♀️🏡 and our contractors should finish their work on our main floor bathroom!

  2. Our contractors just arrived a few minutes ago…we both have much to look forward to! Thanks Connie!

  3. Such good advice about looking in our closets for things we feel wonderful in and wear again and again. One question about cashmere…I have avoided it because I have a dreadful time with wool and itching. I have one actually-made-in-Ireland fishermen’s sweater, just amazing, but I have to wear a turtleneck under it (long sleeves, of course) or I will be in agony all day itching. Do you find cashmere to be itchy at all? I’d love to have some but have never gone that way due to my issues with wool! As far as places we love to go by and go TO again and again, our Italian coffee shop is such a place for me. I get coffee out more now than I did when I was working, because of this particular place. They have it all, from delicious food to outstanding coffee to a great atmosphere (even on the patio). So I know what you mean! How exciting that your renovation is underway! I’m still painting, actually doing doors today, and almost finished! I have painted all but two rooms (that I did recently so they didn’t need it) and have done other projects on my own, and I’m ready to have this completed!! The end result is worth it!

  4. I am not sure what to tell you on the cashmere. I know from experience that Black sells a high quality, luxurious cashmere. I have gifted their items and never received a complaint. But I honestly don’t know if you would react to this one or not. So sorry you have had these issues with other brands.

  5. I love cashmere, unfortunately I am allergic to it. My parents bought me a cashmere coat when I graduated from college in the winter some 40 years ago… I ended up at the doctor who diagnosed it. Some wool can cause the itching and rash as well. It’s not the brand, it’s the goat! I enjoy giving it as a gift to my daughters. At least I can enjoy seeing them wear it. If it itches, you gotta let it go…sad, but true. Pam, I can’t wait to see your new kitchen!

  6. Karen

I also am not able to wear wool due to skin irritation, itching, etc. Even merino wool that everyone says is so soft irritates my skin. However, I have absolutely no problem at all with cashmere. It is incredibly soft and warm. Expensive yes, but will last for years with proper care. Give me one good cashmere sweater over 6 acrylic blends! Lands End has beautiful cashmere and is quite affordable when on sale. Good Luck.

  7. Me too, Connie…I just went in and looked at the demolition and couldn’t believe that shell is the same kitchen…really anxious to see how it turns out.
    Thanks for sharing about cashmere.

  8. Oh, I am so excited! I just ordered the Italian leather gloves in navy blue, with dark tan striped accent around the wrists (cashmere lining, of course). They are a bit of a splurge, but in keeping with my desire to purchase fewer items but of a higher quality, and they will be a beautiful match to my favorite Dooney purse that I carry often. Thank you Pam for introducing us to Black today!!!
