My personal fall traditions for clothing and enjoyment

Pamela Lutrell in fall clothing on over 50 feeling 40

Today, I would like to share with you a couple of fall traditions I always celebrate…just for me…with my fall clothing and enjoyment!

I realize most of us have family traditions for fall, but are there things you do just for you?  Practices which put a smile on your face?

PERSONAL STYLE

Pamela Lutrell in Goodwill SA find for fall

Every year I wear some form of red and leopard print.  I love the combination and only wear it during the fall.

This year I have combined a beautiful, like-new, Talbot’s red bow blouse I found at Goodwill San Antonio!  Leigh Ann came up with the idea to tie it like a men’s tie!

I have paired it with a Chico’s jacket which has camel stitching, Foxcroft black denim, and Aerosoles Leopard shoes..which match the stitching in the jacket.

Here ‘s an older look with a Chico’s Leopard Cape…just to show you how long I have practiced this personal tradition! Things have changed!!

I LOVE THE TIME CHANGE…ONLY IN THE FALL

Fall candles on over 50 feeling 40

I am one of the only people I know who loves it when darkness arrives earlier after the time change.  It is such a seasonal and refreshing change.  (Actually, though, I would love to see a law passed where we stop messing with the time!)

What I do every year as soon as the darkness arrives, is to light candles every evening, and on one of those evenings, I grab a cozy blanket and watch “You’ve Got Mail.”

It is one of my top favorite movies, but I only watch it during the fall…though it concludes in spring.  It has become a fall tradition just for me.

I have to have my fall dose of bouquets of sharpened pencils and butterflies going to Bloomingdales to purchase a hat…or it just isn’t fall.

Does anyone else have a movie you watch only in the fall?  Please share if you do…..

Gift Giving on Over 50 Feeling 40

Something all of us do during the fall is to begin to think about holiday gift giving.  I love to see these little faces light up on Christmas day.

Today, I have a slideshow of interesting gift ideas which have caught my attention this year (Mostly for adults):

  1. You’ve certainly given me something to think about. I don’t have any fall things I do every year, but after reading this, I’m going to come up with a new tradition or two. I also love it when darkness comes early in the fall. To me, it signals that it’s time to stop and rest (often under a cozy blanket with a book!). I’m going to spend some time today creating a new tradition. I love this idea! As for movies, I love the Christmas movies from the 1930’s and 1940’s, and I usually start watching them in the evenings after Thanksgiving. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention college football. That’s a big part of fall too! Thank you for inspiring me Pam!

  2. Yes! College football is a tradition for my whole family. We still love it! So happy I could inspire you today, Karen!

  3. I think that cooler fall days entice me to enjoy a cup of ginger tea or hotchocolate with whipped cream at the end if a daily brisk walk or hike. I too might wrap up in a cuddly blanket and watch several episodes of the Hallmark channel.
I don’t have a fashion tradition as you do but might start one. How about winter white with animal print accessories?

  4. Miracle on 34th street, the original is an every year tradition and I must admit I do watch quite a few Hallmark Christmas movies. Some think they are all the same, however they do get the Christmas spirit going. Add a cup of hot chocolate and a comfy chair and a couple of free hours and I am good to go. I love the shot of you in the leaves, such joy on your face.

  5. Yes, I have a lot of festive shirts that I only wear at Christmas time. Helps me get into the spirit Maybe Charlie Brown’s Christmas. Usually we watch whatever the visiting children want to watch when they are here for Thanksgiving. Just finished the Queen’s Gambit(cant believe we wore those clothes)AND NOW WORKing ON SEAsON 2 OF the CROWN. should hold us until almost Xmas! Hope you and yours have a happy thanksgiving.Best wishes.

  6. Hi. Our family too has many traditions associated with fall and Christmas.
I am a big fan, like you, of it getting darker earlier (and of leaving the time alone!).
I like to light candles, making things cozy. I have leaf vines with lights placed around I turn on too.
You’ve Got Mail, just watched, and While You Were Sleeping are the movies we watch to enter in the Christmas ones. 😉. Our family tradition has always been to watch our first Christmas movie on Thanksgiving night. It has to be according to my husband and our children, It’s A Wonderful Life. Even when we are with family the tradition is shared. 😁
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. 🍁🤗🍁🦃🍁

  7. I love all the catalogs that come my way during this season! I pick up a few Christmas home decorating magazines to enjoy. Start bringing out Christmas, bit by bit. Sweaters, jeans, scarves for daily wear and the fireplace for extra chilly days!

Hoping, as always, for a white Christmas!

  8. Hiya Pam,
Favorie movies this time of year Step Mom with Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon, Best Friend’s Wedding, Home for the Holidays. Have a lovely week!

  9. I kick fall off every year by rereading Rosamunde Pilcher’s novel ‘September.’ While I don’t live in the Scottish highlands (where the novel is set), it’s a fun way to usher in the new season. And count me in for not hating the sun setting early this time of year – a glass of wine in front of the fireplace, a cozy blanket, season 4 of the Crown, and I’m a happy girl!

  10. I think I cry more during Step Mom than most other movies. It is definitely on my list. Thanks Francesca!

  11. I love it when it gets dark early in the fall! We get cozy under a blanket in front of the fire and watch Netflix, movies and football. It is turning colder here in Colorado this weekend so I’ll make chile and cornbread, fall and winter favorites,
