Christmas Eve 2020: Count Your Blessings

Christmas Eve Cocoa on Over 50 Feeling 40

Merry Christmas Eve, everyone!  I would like to encourage you to make it a goal to have a special day and count your blessings….

Yes, even in 2020. I am fully aware that many of you will not experience a Christmas you are accustomed to, or may be alone this year due to the pandemic.

But, in the words of that great philosopher, Bing Crosby, remember this……

Thankfulness is not just for Thanksgiving, but is a powerful tool for the times we are feeling weary.

Instead of focusing on what you don’t have this Christmas, once again, I ask you to focus on the silver linings…what are you thankful for this year.

You may need to write them down.  I have even considered making a new ornament for the tree with one word on it for me…HOME….and 2020 on the back.

Being home more this past year has been such a blessing to me.  I am going to discuss this more as we enter into a new year.

But, what word would be on your ornament?  What blessing would you hang on your tree?

Holiday Joy on Over 50 Feeling 40

I have a feeling that this year, many will watch White Christmas and It’s a Wonderful Life with a new focus and understanding.

Tears may come to the eyes of the strongest who never tear up.  Both movies take us back to what really matters…love, kindness, people…JOY!

Join Bing and Rosemary and count your blessings instead of sheep and when you awake tomorrow…it will be Christmas Day and I will be here with a special message.

KEEP SMILING, EVERYONE!

  1. Pamela, I want to wish you & yours a wonderful Christmas! You’re on my list of blessings for 2020 — you’ve added a lot of goodness & joy to my year. May you & your loved ones be happy & healthy, & may 2021 be better in every single way than 2020 (which, granted, isn’t going to take an awful lot!). And I wish the same for all your readers.

  2. Merry Christmas Pam! My word would be Family. They are a loving constant in my life. I’m looking forward to going to church this evening with my sister and reflecting on what Christmas is really about. My out-of-state family arrives next week, so I’m going to continue baking and preparing this weekend. Praying for a new beginning in my life in the new year.

  3. So true Pam,count your blessings! My beautiful son is back home with us after being away working most of the year in the Air Force and now he is home. Bliss.
Thank you for all the joy this year.
    Happy Christmas!

  4. my word would be Adapt…..working for the airlines for so many years, in the early ones, you never got holidays off. as time went on, and i gained in seniority and the ability to get them off, i then gave them to the younger people who had little kids. our family and friends consisted of many airline people, so we would celebrate together when we could. so fast forward to this year…retired, with airline benefits…i could be anywhere…but here we are on the couch…and you know, its really ok…we are healthy, we have hope, and we have what we need.

  5. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
My family is tiny, my son, my sister and me. My sister has a compromised immune system. And we all live alone. So we are spending Christmas together… no hugs or kisses, and we’ll sit around a loooong dining table. But we will be together! I am so grateful. My ornament would say 2020- Forever Family.

  6. Truly blessed. Two words I know but when I think of where we live and how our lifestyle has allowed us to enjoy activities throughout the year I feel blessed. My family is close by within 2 hours & their jobs expose them but so far we’ve been truly blessed that everyone is healthy. Merry Christmas Pam!

  7. My 2020 word would be TRANSITION. I choose this not because of the pandemic, but in spite if it. 2020 brought my family through some major changes, and while most people might view the circumstances as sad or sacrificial, I can only feel gratitude because this, too, is a chapter in our life story. Wishing you and all the ladies who start their day here reading your blog a very joyous Christmas.

  8. Very Merry Christmas to you and your family. A new kitchen to play in and those to serve it to is what makes for a great day. To all those readers alone, just remember, it is only one Christmas of your life to save other lives, so next year will be much better.

  9. Merry Christmas to you and your family! Thank you so much for this message – it really resonates with me this year. Wishing you a happy, healthy, blessed New Year!

  10. Merry Christmas to you and your family, Pam, and here’s to a better year ahead (it’s a low bar!). Although I don’t comment that often, I’m still reading after all these years! Thank you for all the fun articles (I enjoy the Would You Wear Its).

  11. I’ve been thinking a lot about silver linings lately. We can’t always control our circumstances, but we can certainly control how we respond to them. There’s much in today’s world that could cause us to despair, but like you, I choose to count my blessings instead! Wishing you and yours a very blessed Christmas, Pam!

  12. Merry Christmas! My word for 2021 is HOPE. During my last trip to Goodwill a month ago, I bought a box of Christmas cards ( for 2 dollars ) with the word HOPE and a poem by Helen Steiner Rice. I have received so many thanks for sending that card this year!

  13. Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas! 🎄
I also love your blog which has been a bright spot in 2020.
My mug would have to say Family & Blessings. One of our sons and his wife had Covid recently, but they both recovered and are now healthy and can taste again in time for Christmas!
We are blessed the rest of the family including my 91 year old mother are healthy!

  14. Merry Christmas to you & your family! I am grateful for my family & the support we have offered to each other during this most difficult year.

  15. Merry Christmas Pam
