Cozy at Home in Eileen Fisher…and a Christmas Wrap Up!

AHHHHH….I am feeling so cozy at home these days…and showing one of the cozy outfits with Eileen Fisher.

Christmas was amazing and I am going to hit some highlights below….I hope all of you had a few smiles this past weekend.

EILEEN FISHER RUANA

Pamela Lutrell in Eileen Fisher for Winter Fashion

A standard “uniform” for me over Christmas week was a column of black with fun, warm toppers.

I started with this Eileen Fisher heavy knit ruana which has been in my wardrobe a long time and was originally purchased in an off -season sale at Dillard’s.

It was just chilly enough for me to have that wrapped in a blanket feeling with this style; yet, still feel put together.

I could show you a picture of me in a fabulous dress (that I would have to rent for the picture) in front of my tree or fireplace ….as if that is how I look on Christmas…but that would not be reality.

In fact, at one point on Christmas Day, I looked down at the lovely sweater I was wearing to discover a big stain from brown sugar and butter that had run when I flipped one of the Monkey Breads onto a plate.

With six grandchildren, all under age 7 and four of them boys, I was not going to be dressed in a fancy outfit.  Comfy, cozy and functional were the choices of the week.  And, yes, we did play in the leaves!

CHRISTMAS RE-CAP

Christmas 2020 in San Antonio, Texas

This is my daughter reading on Christmas Day to the two-year-old cousins.  I selected this picture, because it depicts how the 2020 celebration was designed….masks and open doors.

There were 10 adults, and 6 children and masks were worn, and circulation key…as I opened doors and windows and ran ceiling fans.  It was chilly, but all were happy!

My youngest son and his girlfriend actually took COVID tests right before Christmas Day to confirm they were negative.

Pamela Lutrell's Christmas Breakfast 2020

Christmas morning, I served breakfast for everyone featuring this Ham & Cheese Strata, fresh fruit, a baked brie topped with cranberries, apricots and almonds….and, of course, three Monkey Breads!

I have told you before, I am a big fan of the blog Sally’s Baking Addiction, and the Overnight Ham & Cheese Strata is her recipe.

But, in Texas, we must add salsa and chopped jalapenos.  I do recommend this recipe…it was delicious and I made it with the crispy baguette recommended by Sally.

Pamela Lutrell with Holiday Baked Brie

The baked brie did very well in my small cast iron skillet…cooked at 375 for almost 10 minutes.

Pamela Lutrell and Christmas Cookies

Our crowd went through a lot of cookies over the weekend.  I made a new batch twice and I think I was cooking regularly off and on all weekend…but we did not order fast food at all…I am proud of that!

Before everyone invaded, I made a large pot of chili and cheddar cheese/jalapeno cornbread to have on hand and that worked!

Despite the challenges and faces covered…I believe Christmas 2020 will be remembered as one of the best with our family!

  1. Hello Pam,
I had pared down my emails and yours was one that I had unsubscribed to. So I have been away from your posts for awhile. But some link brought me back when I was home sick with COVID. And I caught up with you to learn you had been downsized from your job. I was interested to hear your tone and attitude as you told about it. Reading further I learned you are a Christian. This was something I hadn’t picked up before. And I am always looking for it. I felt you were a sister. And I was so glad to know it. Thank you for your posts. I have so enjoyed my time with you these last months!

  2. Thank you for re-visiting, Sheri. I am sad that you missed some of my posts about faith before, but so happy that you are here now. We are sisters and I am thrilled you are joining in!
I do believe now that I am able to devote full time to the blog that the tone and the content is changing…it is still a work in progress, but I believe reflects more of who I really am now.

  3. Those pictures of grands look so adorable. We used to do that every year, every one of them would run and put on their new Christmas pjs and spend the rest of the day in them. This year they had the option for pjs or something else, and only the youngest wanted them. Of course the teenagers took the money. All that food has my mouth watering. We, just my hubby and myself, had just enough for one meal of leftovers after and we talked to all the kids and grandkids in the afternoon. There would have been a snow storm in the house if we would have had the doors open…haha. we got well over a foot of snow in 2 days.

  4. Looks like a wonderful, family-centered Christmas at your house! My grandson is arriving today from North Carolina, and the rest from New York in a couple days. I’ve been in my kitchen preparing for the past few weeks! How nice that you could have doors open! We had a white Christmas for the first time in years, and today it’s melting. I’m really looking forward to January at this point!!

  5. I also cooked for days getting ready for mine…so I understand you are tired with legs hurting, Karen. Enjoy each moment and I do hope January brings you some nicer weather!

  6. Hi, Pam, looks like you had a wonderful and cautious Christmas. We saw extended families in small batches standing in their garages :/. It was very cold here … mid twenties. We did see my son and daughter in law (who work at a hospital, but not with covid patients). We wore masks except when eating, and stayed apart. We felt more grounded and grateful for what we did have … each other. There are few silver linings in all of this, and I don’t want to minimize it, but I feel in some ways our pared down Christmas got us to its essence.

  7. Love that last line, Linda…our pared down Christmas got us to its essence. That is wonderful!

  8. I would love to experience a white Christmas just once in my lifetime…but I would probably have to go north for that to happen! Thanks for the comment on the kids…they bring me such joy when they are here.

  9. It looks & sounds like you had a lovely Christmas. We gathered with our daughters & families at our younger daughter’s home, which is quite spacious, so we were able to distance. Although it was too cold for much window opening, air circulation was good with ceiling fans running & their whole house air filtration system at work. It was much needed family time for all of us & was a great help to our mental health.

  10. I so agree, Becky…we needed the mental health check so it was worth it to gather and go through the precautions. I completely understand!
