What we wore this week and hot cocoa #1

Pamela Lutrell in green knit jacket for casual chic

Leigh Ann and I have had one busy week, so I thought I would show you what we wore and begin my own search for the perfect hot cocoa recipe.

Leigh Ann may be regretting saying she would help me with the blog…I have kept her very busy lately and am so thankful for the help.

Just so you know, we always wear our masks, social distance, use hand sanitizer and try to go to places right when they open.

That way there are no crowds and the stores are freshly sanitized overnight.

Leigh Ann in traditional plaid on over 50 feeling 40

On Monday, we were on location for a requested assignment within The Home Consignment Shop at The Rim Shopping Center in San Antonio, and also stopped by Dillard’s in The Shops at La Cantera.

I wore a green knit jacket I picked up at a boutique a few years ago, an Eileen Fisher turtleneck sweater, my Foxcroft black denim and ECCO black booties.

Leigh Ann was more traditional in a plaid blazer over jeggings and suede booties.  Her necklace was a fun gold sprig of holly!

We were there to look at jewelry, but I have to say that the consignment furniture was just as much fun.  Who doesn’t need a malt shoppe in their home??

MY SEARCH FOR HOT COCOA

Hot Cocoa Number 1 on Over 50 Feeling 40

Between now and Christmas, I am going to search for the best hot cocoa recipe I can find.  Every Friday, I will feature a different recipe.

Today’s was very good and I am going to make it later for Mr.B…he loves chocolate.

HOT COCOA NUMBER 1

Hot Cocoa Number 1 on Over 50 Feeling 40

TWO SERVINGS:

2 cups of whole milk

2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1/4 cup chocolate chips

1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract

Pour milk into a saucepan, whisk in cocoa and sugar until smooth.  Add chocolate chips and stir until melted, then stir in vanilla extract.  I shot it on top with some whipped cream left over from Thanksgiving and a little chocolate syrup.  It was yummy.

If you would like to submit a recipe for me to try for the next Friday, then just email it to over50feeling40@gmail.com

MY REFLECTION

New Beginnings Quote on Over 50 Feeling 40

Spending time with Leigh Ann to work on content has been such a joy.  We are both in the midst of new beginnings.

This week the air in San Antonio was refreshing, colder and just perfect…being out and seeing all the decorations was uplifting and joyful.

It really is the perfect season to be reflecting on new beginnings….I am so excited about what the future may hold.

  1. I’m glad for you that you are experiencing more seasonal weather. We have had snow on the ground for several days now and I enjoy it at Christmas time (then it can leave, thank you very much!), and it does put a person in a Christmassy spirit. Cocoa is typically my Saturday indulgence, and I’m looking forward to some new ones to try as you post them!

  2. Thanks Karen…I think more Christmas snow when people are staying longer would be welcome this year in many places. Have a lovely day.

  3. Like you I shop in early am just as stores unlock their doors especially now with Covid everywhere!
And oh— the sales in my favorite stores are remarkablyTempting!
    Love your blog!

  4. Your outing looked very fun. We’ve not had snow yet, but every morning and late at night heavy fog – like a blanket of quiet and I love this about winter in Oregon. It would be perfect to make some cocoa and enjoy the view outside. I like to add a small peppermint stick to mine. 😋
Thanks to both you and Leigh Ann for your work. 💖

  5. I didn’t get a chance to comment on your Dillards trip yesterday … wanted to mention that my Barefoot Dreams cardigans are the most worn thing in my wardrobe. I have two, but have just been wearing one, and it has completely replaced my bathrobes. Even with wearing it every single day for the last year (even summer, when I come in from the pool to air conditioning), and laundering regularly, mine looks like I just took it out of the box. It’s warm but you seldom overheat in it. I don’t know what this weave is, but it is absolutely the softest, most durable fabric of its kind. I never see them on sale at Dillards, but Nordstrom has them on sale at the end of the season, for Black Friday, during their Nordstrom sale, etc. I bought one at the sale for half price for a Christmas present this year, and my husband’s “big gift splurge” Christmas gift this year is one of their throws. Pam has a code for Nordstrom’s, and this is a good time to watch for a sale. Truly, it’s a core piece for me, and my cost per wear is already pennies.

  6. You & Leigh Ann both look lovely!
I’m very excited about the hot cocoa recipes! I never drink coffee or tea, I stick with water. But in the cold winter months here in Colorado, I do indulge in hot cocoa. So I’m eagerly anticipating more delish hot cocoa recipes!

  7. Hi Cindy! I just bought the ingredients for the next recipe! Looking forward to sharing it on Friday!
